I just found this one too. Looking forward to hearing it; the original album, missing the entire final battle sequence, was completely inadequate. I'd say it's still Balfe's best score (if you can call it a Balfe score).

The recording sessions was spot on. Hans & Lorne had done a great job on making the film soundtrack... especially those not found in the original soundtrack.
The music as heard in the movie sounds so much better than this release... Still, very cool work from Hans & Lorne, they did exactly the kind of music the film needed.
And the scene with "I'm the bad guy" really has an epic feel.

Kinda like TDKR....movie sounds better than album.
Giant Blue Head and Tightenville show up on Lorne's website, does that mean that he composed them?

yes
Ds
2012-06-02 12:53:33
Mr Fate, how do you know that?
I'd say, Lorne Balfe is co-composer (and not additional composer), what means that all the cues could be on his website... no?
Hybrid Soldier
2012-06-02 13:38:24
Absolutely...
Actually it's a co-score, Lorne & Hans wrote the themes TOGETHER.
Like one starts it, the other finishes it.

Thanks, Hybrid. I saw this a little bit ago just before you posted and had been thinking about my own input on the matter.
Ds, even if Balfe is a co-composer, that means he is *still* a composer of the score. It wouldn't make much sense if he posted samples of Zimmer's work on his own website now, would it? Composers like Balfe, Geoff Zanelli, and Magic Box Music post samples of their own works on their websites so that they can get their names and styles out there and recognized.
It is from this assumption that we could go ahead and conclude that Lorne Balfe is the composer of "Giant Blue Head" and "Tightenville".

It sounds to me like Giant Blue Head and Tightenville are perfect blends of the composers' abilities. The other theme for Megamind heard mainly in Black Mamba sounds totally like Zimmer, as does the love theme.

Speaking of Lorne, if you want some news, he's just completing the next Assassin's Creed & Spyro as we speak. He finished a UK feature, The Sweeney, which should have a score release.

Hi Hybrid Soldier
Is Lorne doing Assassin's Creed 3 by himself or is Jesper Kyd returning as well?
I ask because months before Ubisoft announced Jesper Kyd was returning for Assassin's Creed Revelations he had it listed on his site and on his agency site (The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency)that he was composing for the game but I can't find any news on Jesper returning for Assassin's Creed 3.
I thought Lorne's music for Revelations was better than Jesper's so I'm hoping Lorne is doing the full score himself.
Thank you

You can on Amazon (look at the link on left side of this page).
Also looking for the music from the opening scene of Megamind (when he's falling) which is the background music for the menu screen on DVD. Why can't I find this anywhere?

And you've still missed some cues... ;)
//////
2011-09-18 02:02:44
Ya I figured. Can you share with us these other cues, and tell us where to find them?
Am I clear in understanding that there is no track for the DVD title screen music they used or that little snippit in the beginning of the movie which was the same track? Because I have gone through the entire soundtrack and have not heard it ONCE. There was a tease of it in Giant Blue Head, but that wasn't the actual piece. You're driving me nuts, Zimmer, for not putting that in the soundtrack!!! Please, if anyone can help me find it or tell me where I can get it, it would be much appreciated.
I think Lorne Balfe is doing a better job than Zimmer these days. Zimmer has been more involved in not so good projects including this one Megamind. His best works were done until 2003. However, Zimmer was involved in some projects that were awesome like The Dark Knight or Kung Fu Panda (special Zimmer's themes) (John Powell sucks). Also Balfe did good compositions, but that doesn't mean he's the next Zimmer. NO!!! He will never be the next Hans Zimmer. He''ll need a whole lifetime to do that but even with that, he'll never surpass Zimmer's earlier works. Should I tell them? No. Because everybody knows his works and he's the God of film music even with his few fails. But don't think I'm saying I hate his works. No; I think he's got talent and definitely has more talent than Henry Jackman, Ramin Djawadi (even his work in Medal of Honor) and the worst film composer of all times and Remote Control's history; Steve Jablonsky (special him and his totally horrible film compositions, and more with Michael Bay) together. That reminds me the time when Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams worked together for a long time as Gregson-Williams as his apprentice. But that's my opinion so don't get angry if I offended you.
If Zimmer let Balfe to compose more music for upcoming films, then Balfe will gain respect in Hollywood and would work with renowed film producers and directors like Zimmer's former "padawans" such as Harry Gregson-Williams, Marc Streitenfeld, Trevor Rabin and Klaus Badelt. Besides, I loved what Balfe and Zimmer did on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 together.

John Powell sucks??? You're kidding, right? Powell is by far the best padawan (your word!) to emerge from Remote Control, to the point that I think he's doing better stuff than Zimmer himself these days.
Go listen to How to Train Your Dragon. Then cry because you were such an idiot ever to type the forbidden words "John Powell sucks", come back and apologize.
Also, listen to Steamboy - it'll make you think twice about your opinion of Jablonsky. ;)

Wait... did Snake just wrote "John Powell sucks"??!!! Really???!!!
Oh my God dude... you shouldn't be alive!! You should be in the mental institute for writing those words.
John Powell is a fantastic composer - one of the best - and I'm really angry with the Academy for not giving him the Oscar for HTTYD (which is, btw, one of the best scores in the world).
Hans Zimmer is good and I love him but I have to be honest - his padawans (using your word as Edmund did) are becoming greater than him.
Sorry dude but you are just lame!!!
Peter
2011-06-07 22:49:08
His Padawans?
I'll admit Jablonsky and Ramin Djawadi of late have been Getting better in their mimicry of Zimmer's styles. Even Henry Jackman did a good job with Xmen...
but I have to agree with the guy who negates Powell...
I'll extend that to even say Gregson-Williams sucks as well.
Both have been getting lazy. Either that or the projects they've been taking on havent really been the kind of projects that give them much room to work, and much less shine in.
Gregson Williams watermark seems to have been after he did Man on Fire. Ever since then he's been riffing on himself.
Powell's looks to have been the Bourne Series. Much of his work after that, probably save Hancock, has been hyperkietic childrens' movie fare, which is kinda meh IMO. And yes I include Kung Fu Panda.
Im all for Zimmer's padawans picking up the torch, but both Powell and GW have been dropping their balls lately and letting THEIR padwans outshine them...

@ Peter
Powell and Gregson-Williams on a bad day still write better music than all those padawans with exotic names I don't even care to remember. They don't even deserve to be called padawan, minion is probably a better name.
Hell, on a bad day Gregson-Williams and Powell write even better music than Zimmer himself. Then again, Zimmer probably hasn't written a note of music in years, he's got his minions for that.

@ Hybrid
Am I really? Sure, I exaggerated by saying Zimmer hasn't written a note of music in years. But he also hasn't written a full score without relying on his minions in years. It almost seems that list of additional composers is getting longer and longer with each score. Also none of his recent scores are as good as the stuff he wrote in the 90's.
And you can't seriously think that Ramin Djawadajajaji and Atali Orvarizon write better music than Powell and Gregson-Williams?!
Hybrid Soldier
2011-06-08 13:29:56
Because Powell & Gregson write their scores alone ?
Are you kidding ? What about Dom Lewis, Paul Mounsey, McKee Smith, Ashton Thomas with Powell ? Cauthery, Hybrid, Anthony Lledo, Daveid Buckley, even Matthew Margeson with HGW ?
And yeah, I can affirm in the past few years Atli did much better than HGW (who is kind of lost since 2005)... Eagle, Season, Free Realms (which of course you haven't heard, I can't blame you), Babylon AD HGW hasn't matched stuff like that since a veeeeeeeeeeery long time, unfortunately... :S
Trent Easton Navarro
2011-06-08 13:52:25
Well no, but I don't get the idea that they rely on the additional composers as much as Zimmer does.
HG-W last couple of scores weren't very impressive (although I loved Prince Caspian and Prince of Persia), but I think that also had something to do with the films them self. Here's hoping he'll deliver on Cowboys and Aliens.
As for Örvarsson, I didn't really care much for Season but I did like The Fourth Kind. And The Eagle was also pretty good. Never heard of Free Realms. I'll see if I can find that one somewhere.

Sometimes you're right Snake, but you should also respect each composer Ramin Djawadi is one of my favorites! Steve was a good composer with Steamboy, transformers 1, and then a second part of this terrible and stupid with ACDC!
Oh, man I hope Rango gets a release. I wanna see that so bad, it looks really good. Just watching the trailer makes me feel like it will have a good score.
Enrico: I`m guessing that theme suites and some tracks (Stars and Tights, ...) are by Hans Zimmer and rest is by Lorne Balfe (so it was co-composed by both of them).
tank u for making this beautiful musics keep writing these everlasting musics your music is has inspired me so much tank u tank u so much the great talented hans zimmer
Genial! Great! Tightenville; Stars and Tights; Black Mamba; Rejection in Rain; Ollo; Game Over!!! The best:....Ollo, Stars and Tights...or Game Over..! Hard stand
This is a fun score, nothing outstanding but nice to listen to nevertheless... but I think the CD ends far too abruptly ! It lacks some kind of conclusion, the end of "Evil Lair" leaves me waiting for what's coming next... except that there is nothing next ! A conclusion track would have been good, it would have given some closure to the album... too bad !
