'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music!The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....
Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lolThis right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
Everyone keep mentionning mw2 but those drums reminded me of...skylanders giants lol! Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me knowThe clips are on his Facebook page.2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?Me tooExcited!!!
God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)"It's good shit lieutenant" The principle is based on Thomas Newman's Bond. "Take back what's ours" and "the truth" is Ad astrahonnestly, I do get why people refer to MW2, but to be honest, it's not the same. With the amount of time I heard that score, I can say that it uses the same drums, and a pattern that is quite similar to the one used in MW2, but it is not a copy/paste. It's no different to me than Junkie XL re-using the same pattern of drum in all of his recent scores since Mad Max. When it comes from the same composer, I guess it's normal to have works that parts that similar from a score to another. Just think of John Murphy who re-use his powerful theme from Sunshine in a lot of his scores (28 weeks later, kick-ass, etc).

Actually I'm quite glad he re-used the themes from Mancina as that was, to me at least, a big miss for BB2 even though Rabin and Jablonsky did a great job. It's like doing a James Bond movie without the Bond theme. It might be good, but it miss the little something that gel everything together. ;) I really like what Lorne did on this one. Even though he re-used the theme, he made them his own, in a similar way he did with MI Fallout, while sometime paying homage to the original ones. ;) My 2 cents.Not really familiar with either Mancina’s BB score or MW2, but I’m really enjoying this. It’s like an old-school MV score filtered through Lorne’s sound. The main tune (which I’m guessing is Mancina’s) is a lot of fun, particularly when paired with the choir.

And as for Ad Astra, the villain motif in “Take Back What’s Ours” sounds like it was directly lifted from the space scenes of that score.

That's what I did...nothing on trace of specialist audio engineer...a bit strange, isn't it?

James Mates reply Replies: 0 || 2008-02-26 00:00:00
I refuse to indulge in your game playing. I assure you I am genuine, you lot are just jealous.

Google me. You'll find me credited in IMDB. I do extensive audio work on the side. But you're not a pro, so how would you know?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to catch a flight to San Francisco.

By the way, I telephoned Steve a while back. He agrees with me about you all.

I am taking the time out of my very busy work schedule (I'm catching a flight to LA and then to Paris to work on a joint venture), to respond to your immature comments.

Per, you don't have anything like the proper bootleg. If you think the release CD has better sound quality you are totally wrong. The copy of this CD I have is recorded to incredibly high fidelity standards. I have the master production CD which includes full streo audio, clear and crisp. If, Per, your audio is "so much [worse] sound quality", then I suspect you don't have a proper bootleg. You have my pity and sympathy. However, I am still not willing to aid you, just like I was not willing to aid Clown and like I forbade Terrance from aiding any of you.

Me: Get a grip. I am not going to say any more than this. I earn over 200,000 a year producing this sort of thing. I'm a professional in this field -- a true professional. Hell, I've talked to Steve Jablonsky himself more than once. You're just a nobody. Hey, you didn't even give your name. "Nobody".

So, is all this "want but can't have" symbolic of the rest of your life? It looks like an apt parallel. This goes especially for Cloud.

I forbid you to reply to this post. I don't NEED this. I'm a specialist audio engineer working for Hollywood. You're just a nobody living in nowhere. Don't bother replying. It's wasted - you're wasted. I don't need to talk to nobodies like you. Sad people who have to attack good people just because they have something you don't. You're bad for society.

Good morning, SPECIALIST AUDIO ENGINEER. Yet again I have to take the time out of my very, very busy schedule to show off on a public forum. Again I'm very disappointed by your inability to read and understand my previous posts (sure, it's a lot of text for a busy, handsome, rich and successful young man like you). Well, what can I say... uuh, congratulations on talking to Steve a few times. Wow, I mean you're like brothers now or something.

James, honestly let's cut the crap. Stop pretending and reveal your true identity. C'mon. This was fun, but we should stop this before people start believing there's really such a looney sound engineer out there somewhere.

Ok, have a nice day. I will, because I'm going to listen to my genuine Transformers bootleg in glorious crystal clear crisp audio right now... my precioussssss...

Let's imagine for a second that this guy is "real", would you? Ok. He says that you earn 200,000 every year...well...lucky you because you have a fantastic job (if YOU are real). This means that you are very good at what you are doing and that every composer would love to work with you, am I right?
So...why there are no informations about "James Mates" on the net? A bit strange...unless this is NOT your real name (well, that was easy) and you are a LIAR.

Per reply Replies: 0 || 2008-02-15 00:00:00
...personally I like to listen to the last part of track 17 on the soundtrack CD instead, since it has so much better sound quality ;)

ROFL, what?? You should read what I wrote. What on earth are you two even talking about? What is all this providing/demanding stuff?? I seriously hope this is some kind of joke. I'm absolutely NOT interested in any of you posting more music from this bootleg anywhere. As I said, anyone can have it if they know where to look for it and if they're ready to go through some necessary risks to enjoy music they want to enjoy. We all have our own "sources" (sorry, can't tell you more because it could endanger the fate of the universe).

tFoster reply Replies: 0 || 2008-02-13 00:00:00
HONESTLY!!! u are warned above, "This zone is only to post comment, not to ask for CD downloading, copying or trading"
Sure, trading, you may get it, but this is it, you cannot get it for NOTHING, and this is what the ungrateful people lke Cloud and Keith want?
I only got it from my m8 James, we are good mates, we go way back, that is why he sent me the music
Is hat lright KAYA!?!? Also although I don't know steve my mate James does they chat on the phone once or twice but he did not get the music from steve he got it from another professional in his field I cannot disclose more I am afraid as this could edanger him all I can tell yo is he got it from a special source, one that you cannot get hold of so the ungrateful people here cannot listen to the music without the right entitlement
I was very kind in saying I could not provide it, I even apologise taht this is not possible, I also ask you to be grateful for what antas post
Have you seen what antas post!!!? SCROLL UP! You will see the 4 clips antas has been more than generous wit u all, and all u do is throw it bk in his face and my face and my mate james's face by demanding more as though you somehow deserve it, well i got news for you grow up and learn that you can only get what you are given and no more
you will never know James as he is my good friend, I have told him about yo ulot
James is the only one with this music
You cannot get it from him and ANtas has already ruled out trading on this message list QUITE WISELY, thank you antas!!!!
Thanks, terence

I am taking the time to write to you all from my hotel in Manhattan Island, New York (NY), because Terence is upset at how some of you reacted to his comments.

This is quite ridiculous. Some of you - especially "Cloud" and Kata, are behaving like children.

I am not willing to provide detail about how I got what I did, other than that I gave it to my friend Terence as a favour and for no reason other than that. This is why I cannot provide it to anyone else and I hope you understand that.

I should add that although Terence might well like to give you the music, sadly it is not his perogative. I gave him the music and it is my decision as to whether it is provided to others. I am sorry but for the protection of my own personal privacy, I am not willing to provide it to others. If you can source this disc from elsewhere, good for you.

However, until then, Please stop being jealous of something someone else has just because you don't. It's childish and unprofessional. Some people - look right at Keith and Cloud here - are provided with samples, such as those provided by Antas, and then want more.

Please, get rid of this sense of "entitlement". This is the one thing upon which Cloud and I agree. You are NOT entitled to this music, and you don't have any scruples when it comes to demanding music.

All my other professional friends in this field agree with this view. I hope you do too.

Kind regards,

James Mates

Yeah, I love it when people think they are privileged for having a bootleg score, like it was Mr. Jablonsky who gave it to them himself. Geesh, anyone who can get on a trading forum can probably find it. Myself, I make it a rule that I own the original and official score release before I even search or listen to a bootleg unless the score is not even commercially available.

Cloud reply Replies: 0 || 2008-02-05 00:00:00
Entitled, lol. C'mon guys, stop it already. "Only a number of people can get hold of it" - anyone can have this if they look hard enough, there's thousands of people who have it by now. We all know it and we don't talk about it. We just enjoy the music.

James Mates reply Replies: 0 || 2008-02-05 00:00:00
I would like to speak in support of my friend Terence, who asked me to let you all know there is no way I can supply you with the music. I supplied it to Terence as a favor, and made it clear that it is for him and him alone. I do hope you understand me when I say you are not entitled to this music. Terence made a good point about the samples posted above - enjoy what you can get. I got this music through another source, but I am the audio engineer Terence refers to. I have given it out to a few people but have mostly kept it for myself. I am sorry that you are NOT entitled to the music. Kind regards, J. Mates. SPECIALIST AUDIO ENGINEER
