Cool Hybrid! Been at the concert in Oberhausen last Saturday. A lot better then expected to be honest. Pedro's Oogway's Ascend was very good, Pedro outdid himself there (at the 2nd Zimmer concerts I thought he wasnt that great compared to Richard).

Yeah! The hell are the other comments about though? The Last Stand is miles ahead of X2. You weren't even saying TLS was the best X-men score, you were just saying it's Powell's best score. Man people are dumbHi, I want to add some seconds of 8 track for the background of my small documentary about races, my first one, is it possibile to ask for copyright? Should I write to some email addresses?
I'm kind of the same way, even on a personal level. The synth and power anthems, even from the Media Ventures era, is just kind of getting old to me. The incessant momentum, the lack of thematic progression, it all wears on you eventually.I think you really nailed how I feel about this score. I don’t personally mind the tense electronic elements (this is music that I can enjoy on its own level) but I do feel let down by the lack of a theme or any solid motif to anchor the music. Especially in the emotional cues.

The one thing that I keep coming back to is how this sounds so much like something Johann Johansson would have written. I actually really like his music style, but it is pretty jarring to see Zimmer do minimalism on this level. No objections here, but I can’t wait to get some exciting Zimmer music again.
Not for nothing but it's kinda odd how Zimmer has been declining ever since, IMO, his collaboration with Wallfisch on Blade Runner 2049....

Honestly, I've been straying towards John Carpenter's Halloween 2018 and horror synth ever since....is Zimmer retiring or something? Because I'm finding myself not into him so much, anymore.I honestly wasn't expecting much from this film on a musical level, but some tracks that are available are OK to listen to. McQueen has never been a proponent of larger-scale thematic music in his scores, he seems to be a mood-inspired person, and Zimmer can do that very, very well.

Coming back to the music, Zimmer seems to have embraced his textural roots. 2018 has been all about texture really in the action films, i.e. Black Panther's percussion layers, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Widows. Thematically, there seems to be a solemn progression for Marcus that reappears in "My Son", that relies on familiar elements (i.e. drone strings layered on top of each other, lower bass accompaniment), and some of the action textures in "We Have A Job To Do" and "Perimeter Check" is a nice callback to the Media Ventures style of things.

I'm admittedly disappointed with the fact that there is nothing beyond residually, well-anchored momentum and tension to the score, and the album length is shocking. But it is what it is. I love the underlying, throbbing synth bass ripples, I've always had a soft spot for them.

Honestly, it's a one time listen for me. I'm more excited about his dual superhero bonanza return next year- Wonder Woman 1984 and X-Men Dark Phoenix. I'm definitely not expecting him to use John Ottman's brilliant theme for the latter, although I will definitely be impressed if by slight chance, he does. The "Money" is quite soothing in a melancholy way. "The Calm Before The Storm" uses some worthwhile sombre piano treading that I'm always a stickler for.Come to Bratislava, Slovakia too.I wonder with all of the Easter eggs if Jackman will incorporate some character themes like possibly the Imperial March for Storm Troopers Or Disney themed for the Disney characters@Anonymous on the Blu-ray it should have surround sound. Just that it's out on iTunes in Australia already - which is how I got it - and iTunes bonus features are obviously only in stereo.

@Ahmad - the benefit here is really all the film version edits of the cues we already have on the album. And some of them are quite different from the album ones....

The tracklist I came up with for now for the iso score. Total runtime is 2:08:16.

A Storm Is Coming (Logos) / Julia / Good Evening, Mr. Hunt	4:51
Self-Destruct	0:23
Plutonium Trade / A Terrible Choice	6:14
The Manifesto	1:46
Fallout (Main Titles) / Your Mission (Part 1)	2:07
Your Mission (Part 2)	2:21
Free Fall (Part 1)	1:57
Free Fall (Part 2)	2:14
Grand Palais / Consequences Of Love	2:01
Bathroom	6:12
No Pain, No Gain (Outro) / As Ugly As They Come 2:09
I'll See You In My Dreams / Widow Bar	2:33
The White Widow / Should You Choose To Accept...	5:38
Busy Day Tomorrow	0:41
Framing Ethan / The Exchange	6:37
Escape Through Paris	6:11
Steps Ahead	1:11
Je Suis Désolé	1:04
Unfinished Business	0:34
Did You Ever Choose Not To?	1:51
You're Mine Now	0:30
We Are Never Free	4:52
Widow In London	1:45
Trapped	3:14
The Mission Is Terminated	2:02
No Hard Feelings / The Exhortation	6:46
Stairs & Rooftops	6:25
Kashmir	7:10
Julia (Reprise) / Fate Whispers To The Warrior	5:06
And The Warrior Whispers Back	8:20
I Am The Storm (Part 1)	4:12
I Am The Storm (Part 2)	1:21
Scalpel & Hammer	3:47
Cutting On One	1:25
The Last Resort 1:48
There's No Reason To Be Sorry / Mission: Accomplished (Curtain Call)	4:51
End Credits	6:28
I wonder what the quality on the disc will be like but definitely not expecting lossless. Three commentaries and the isolated score and language tracks. That's a lot and the movie is not short lol.

In general, I don't think we're missing much to begin with (but it's really cool and should be done more often). There's a cool bit where the "Syndicate" theme was used I think in the film version of "Escape Through Paris" and the album version doesn't have that bit.ur kidding. is it like the last jedi? why cant it be in surround soundI believe it's stereo at around 160kbps (since it's a stream from iTunes Extras)What quality does the isolated score from iTunes have?Have any of the slate titles surfaced for this? Would be useful when dividing up that (brilliant!) isolated score into tracks. Got it off iTunes earlier this week and pretty much been on repeat all week, so awesome.
I wish. I live like 15 miles away from Golden 1 Center.come to Sacremento, california!!!No, you lying...The tracks Marcus and My Son have some very strong Morricone resemblance. They're similar how the Italian Maestro usually introduces/builds up many of his slow and heartbreaking melodies. The difference is that Zimmer doesn't really build up a theme, therefore it sounds as a long introduction of a never written Morricone theme. Still, I like it.I always wanted to know why that is? when you hear music in the movie composed by Hans or company they sometimessound different, or are not in the soundtrack. Perfect example the Batman trilogy and specially Man of steel. John powell has a lot of missing music as well.

Yay, finally someone who dares to critisize Hans' 90's scores.

I don't remember (I believe it was an interview with Zimmer). Apparently Spielberg called him on the phone after seeing the movie and said it was a great score. lol.

Little Ducks sounds completely different in the movie.
It's a different choir...

why?

It's not a different choir it's just a different key

I having an opinion that: Zimmer, Scott and Crimson Tide
should be a combo for an epic movie. Because an epic score,
dramatic song (Mutiny and Roll Tide (I add "Mutiny" because
there's a "Roll Tide" section on 5'24, i think. Without hit)). I like you very much. You're my inspiration. I'm from Thailand. I signed into the school's band. I played an
anthem every morning. I'm having fun with playing music very much! I'm sure you'll keep making an incredible music
like this.

With regards to the "complete score" that is going round. I did a little write up on it:

This 2CD is a bit of a con. Yes it has clean, unreleased music, but it is not complete (some small cues missing). Furthermore, it has a lot of repeated music.

RUNNING TIME AS IS: 98 mins approx

1/1. RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR
Unreleased - the main titles

1/2. MUTINY
As per the OST; the last 1:47 should come later

1/3. ALABAMA (FILM VERSION)
Partially unreleased - sounds like the first 2:28 of Alabama on the OST but this does not cut-off and is mixed slightly differently.

1/4. LITTLE DUCKS
As per the OST

1/5. DEFCON
Unreleased - Hunter's war speech

1/6. THE ENEMY IS WAR
Unreleased - The fire

1/7. RANGE AND SPEED
Unreleased commercially but available on a rare Nick Glennie Smith promo

1/8. ZULU TIME
Unreleased - the second Akula attack

1/9. AUTHENTICATION
Unreleased - Hunter getting the phone call to go to work

1/10. ALABAMA
As per the OST, plus the first 2:28 is already heard on CD1/3 of the CD!

2/1. ZERO BUBBLE
The last 9:49 of Alabama from the OST - another repeat of music heard in CD1/10!!!

2/2. 1SQ
As per the OST

2/3. THE ARMORY
Unreleased commercially but available on a rare Nick Glennie Smith promo. The title here is incorrect.

2/4. TORPEDOS
Unreleased - the first Akula attack

2/5. PEARL HARBOR
Unreleased - this is an alternate cue and not the actual courtoom music

2/6. ROLL TIDE
From the OST.

The correct, approximate running order would be as follows:

RUNNING TIME WITHOUT REPEATED MUSIC: 86 mins approx

1/1
1/9
1/2 (minus the last 1:47 or so)
1/4
1/5
1/6
1/2 (the last 1:47 or so)
1/3
1/10 (8:22 to 14:03)
1/7
2/4
1/8
1/10 (2:28 to 8:22)
2/1 (or the last 9:49 of 1/10!)
2/2
2/3
2/6
2/5

In closing, there IS a complete score (with no repeated music and the missing small cues) that lasts around 89 mins.
You may be able to get it if you look around.

Per2011-08-26 19:04:13
I doubt there is a real, full, complete score available. Outside Zimmer etc.'s "vault", that is.

If there is any it's probably still just a combination of the OST (perhaps with edited/splitted tracks) and these unreleased cues. And of course the cue 13M21 from the Dirty Pictures submission disc, which was, strangely enough, not on this "expanded" version.

Dawn2011-08-27 01:56:06
@Takehiro
You're wrong about 2/5 "Pearl Harbor", it is part of the Court of Inquiry sequence, but only used in the director's cut version of the film.
That cue is used during an extended part where Hunter is waiting and thinking in the corridor.

The right track order is :
2/5 (from 2011 expanded edition)
13M21 (from NGS's dirty pictures)
2/6 (from 2011 expanded edition)

Anonymous2011-08-27 03:52:12
@Per: with this expanded and NGS' cues, its pretty much complete

Per2011-08-27 15:40:24
Maybe the 'Pearl Harbor' cue were meant to fit the extended scene where Hunter sits in the corridor waiting originally. But it's not that music that's played during that scene. I don't know if it's a new/unreleased cue, but it could might as well be just something that's been reused from somewhere else. (It's very similar to for instance 11'27 - 11'50 on track 2, Alabama on the CD.)

If you combine the OST with all the available unreleased cues, it is indeed very close to being complete. It's mainly missing a short piece where Hunter is doing some boxing or whatever, and of course the full non-cutted/edited cues of some of the stuff on the OST. Not that important, since unlike other Zimmer CDs, it actually doesn't seem to have cutted pieces in the middle of cues. Maybe. It's mostly just the very end etc. of some cues that's been cutted, and faded into other cues.

We have great musician such as Harry Gregson-Williams, Klaus Badelt, John Powell and young talents such as Steve Jablonsky and Ramin Djawadi, thanks to Zimmer's teachings. He revolutioned and changed the film score genre and I think it was necessary. Who said John Williams is the best? No way!

It's not a fake :D
I can confirm it's expanded but without the DVD handy, I can't say if it's complete or not. It DOES however contain the much sought-after Torpedo Attack scene (08 - Zulu Time)

Anonymous2011-05-08 09:59:12
Its expanded. Even without the DVD I know from playing it.

Bondo2011-05-09 06:52:01
FYI I can confirm that "Range and Speed" and "The Armory" are from Nick Glennie-Smith's Dirty Pictures promo, possibly the other 2 tracks as well; I'll have to check. And I'm in no way 100% certain, but "Zulu Time" sounds remarkably like "Rocket Away" from THE ROCK. Any thoughts?

Gavin Salkeld - Composer2011-05-09 21:26:24
Its definitely not from The Rock lol. The Pearl Harbor cue is also from a NGS promo, I have so many I forget which one.

Bondo2011-05-09 22:45:36
I know it's not FROM The Rock, but the samples and style are. I never realized just how similar the two scores were until I heard these extra CT tracks

Anonymous2011-05-09 23:58:58
Zimmer used those same samples for years!

Bondo2011-05-10 00:04:10
Not the ones I'm talking about; remember this was 1995. We know which tracks Nick Glennie-Smith contributed to Zimmer scores prior (Point of No Return, Beyond Rangoon, Drop Zone), so you can hear which samples HE used for CT and The Rock.

HZLeaks2011-05-10 02:03:18
Everyone at MV shared samples, especially in the early days. Some of them even cropped up as late as 2003 in POTC lol

Anyway the 2CD here isnt complete, I have some extra clean cues Im going to put into it to make it more complete

Bondo2011-05-10 02:32:16
Thanks for sharing, that'd be awesome to hear! Perhaps I wasn't clear earlier... what I was trying to say is that since Hybrid was kind enough to break down THE ROCK several years back as to who-scored-which-cues (on the forum), several of the new Crimson Tide cues (Range and Speed, Zulu Time) sound more like NG-S and less like Zimmer. There were certain samples, especially in the 1990s, that NG-S used quite often. I may or may not be right about these 2 tracks, it's just an educated guess.

fabien reply Replies: 0 || 2011-05-07 13:34:33
