So the film is in theaters (again), and it is doing remarkably well (considering it is a re-release). This is the third time this movie is making its way to the top of the charts, yet even now there is no proper score release. Whatever happened to that "expanded Lion King" album that Hans Zimmer promised? I thought he said "one of these days [he] will be good; [he] will ask Disney 'hey let's do an expanded Lion King score', and [Disney] will say yes."? I remember he said the score is not expensive to release, and he even claimed he is looking Lion King his tapes up, and he is finding things no one has ever heard, etc, etc.
So. Why is it that the newly announced Lion King Deluxe Edition album is once again a song collection? How is it that everything is getting an expanded release of some sort (most of which don't even need one), but this one is still a no-go? I am sure Mr. Zimmer can make it happen if he really wants to. But then again it appears that he is so indifferent about his fans. Oh brother...

supporting you in every phrase you've written. a shame we haven't something until now. and people moaning about inception and transformers, while these beauties haven't got any love since years.

Well said. I recently purchased the new DVD and it was like falling in love all over again with the score. Fingers crossed that the new Intrada/Disney collaboration might finally do this masterpiece the justice that it's been denied since 17 years. And there couldn't be a better opportunity to coincide it with than the diamond edition Blu-ray release!
I've never seen any particular name of the orchestra on TLK, but according to the end credits, the music was recorded at: MEDIA VENTURES (USA), TODD A-O SCORING (USA), ANGEL STUDIOS (UK), BOP STUDIOS (South Africa) http://www.lionking.org/endcredits.html
And according to DVD commentary the chorus was a mix of London chorus & South African choir. The songs of voice actors were probably recorded in the US & UK. Plus, most Disney scores are recorded in America, so I think the orchestra was recorded only in the US (Todd A-O), with musicians of Hollywood, as Ravi said.
I think the purely orchestral material was recorded in the US, so it should be the Hollywood Symphonic Orchestra. The material featuring both African choir and orchestra (both score and the underscore for the songs) was recorded in South Africa and UK so LSO could be the one in UK.

No doubt this is the best score of Hans Zimmer, and personaly i think it is the most beautiful and dramatic music ever written! the movie is also great!
Oah, "This Land" is so much more than life, it is, oh, something so great. Plenty o' feelings, happiness, sorrow, strength and honor, bloody hell, perfect! Thanks, Hans! Intro of Be Prepared sounds like Nightwish, hmm...
Honestly, I don't see much difference between this CD and the '94 one. At first, I was hoping that it will contain more score tracks than the first CD but, instead, it contains two new tracks which are not very special. So, I don't think that it is greater than the first one. I like the artwork on this one and that's all. So, if they want to release a real Special Edition, then they should add more score tracks and, why not, release a special edition on double CD because a movie with music like this really deserves to be in any music fan collection. I don't say that this CD is a waste of money but, like I said before, it's not very special. So, think twice if you have to choose between this and the '94 one. This is my advice.
I just want to tell you - that would mean, you can download the whole CD without paying anything. That is not okay! Hans Zimmer also has to earn money. Don't be so selfish. I love your music, Hans Zimmer!
