No no, it's just a fake rumor. I was just responding to that MusoPT guy who made it sound like it's totally inconceivable that Balfe could ever be replaced.Wait!<br>So has Balfe been replaced due to having other projects?<br>I thought it had been completed?Why was there the change of composers?...wouldn't being really busy be an argument *for* him possibly being replaced? When you're signed on to 10 movies and release schedules are being constantly pushed around because nobody has a clue when theaters are going to open again, you shouldn't be surprised if eventually you might run into some conflicts.Jackman is not replacing Balfe! <br>Balfe is the most busiest composer at the moment so he isn’t going to get replaced last minute!!!!!
Thank you for your replies. On IMDB she is listed.Alright, after re-listening to the score, I've made a few educated guesses of what the additional composers did, based on what we know about the score and their previous work. Note that none of this is confirmed by Hybrid, just my opinion.<br><br>Lorne Balfe: Seems to practically be a co-composer here. I hear a lot of him in this score. It seems he did Invasion (as he's known for contributing trailer music to films he works on) seemingly the suites "Brooding", "Deciphering the Signal", "Battle", and the one we know he cowrote, "Journey Suite". Based on this here's my guess as to what he contributed. <br><br>Soccent Attack - Sounds like his style, probably him arranging AllSpark and Decepticon material. <br><br>Keller's Briefing - Arrangement of "Deciphering the Signal"<br><br>Deciphering the Signal - Obviously another arrangement of "Deciphering the Signal" with Batman Begins-like action at the end.<br><br>Sam's Pink Bike Ride (Part 2) - Sounds like an arrangement of "Brooding" material. <br><br>(Possibly?) Are You LadiesMan217? - Some arrangement of "Brooding" and "Journey Suite" material, although hard to say whether the theme at 1:10 is Steve's or Lorne's. Could be Steve arranging Lorne material, as it sounds more Jablonsky-esque to me. <br><br>Autobots to the Rescue - Could be Steve imitating Batman Begins style, but sounds far too Lorne for me to not consider it a co-written track. <br><br>Sector 7 Chase - Part 1 sounds more Jablonsky than Lorne, but there's no question to me that part 2 has a lot of Balfe in there. <br><br>Where Is My Car? - Batman Begins-like again, probably Lorne solo, or Lorne and Steve<br><br>Decepticons Mobilize (Part 2) - Arrangement of "Brooding"<br><br>Freeway Fight - Battle version of Decepticon theme from "Brooding"<br><br>Stumble Bumble (Part 1) & (Part 2 Alternate) - Arrangement of "Journey Suite", second part not used in the film sounds like Steve & Lorne Combo to me. Film version of part 2 sounds pure Steve to me. <br><br>You're A Soldier Now (Parts 1 & 3) - Lorne being heavily involved in the final battle is known, and Parts 1 and 3 have arrangements of Lorne material. I'm also fairly certain that Lorne wrote the Optimus vs Megatron theme from Part 3 and "Optimus vs Megatron".<br><br>Optimus vs Megatron - Finale of theme introduced in "You're A Soldier Now (Part 3)" as well as the "Journey / AllSpark" theme which could be Lorne's or Steve's. <br><br>Trevor Morris: I can infer from his work on Pirates 2, The Island, and the one track we know he worked on. <br><br>Soldiers Arrive - Not sure why, but I've always assumed this military theme was Morris'.<br><br>Arctic 1897 - Dark theme that reminds me a lot of his work from Pirates 2. <br><br>Scorponok - Known fact that he co-wrote this. <br><br>Hoover Dam - Arrangement of military theme<br><br>Transforming - Same theme from Arctic 1897<br><br>Sam on the Roof (Part 2) - Arrangement of theme from Scorponok, though could be Steve or Lorne arranging it.<br><br>Optimus vs Megatron - A slight hint to the Military theme when they begin attacking Blackout, and Scorponok theme reprisal, once again could be Steve or Lorne arranging these themes. <br><br>Creeper Suite / A Call to Arms (Unused) - Original music for Optimus' Epilogue, contains arrangement of military theme. <br><br>Jay Flood: Can be inferred from his work on Transformers: The Game, his overall more orchestral writing, and his contributions to Nightmare on Elm Street, Sims 3, and Desperate Housewives. <br><br>Camaro on the Run - Definitely has a TF: The Game sound to it overall. As well as a bit of Thomas Newman-esque music. <br><br>Witwicky (Parts 1-3) - Definitely some of his style here along with Steve's overall Desperate Housewives-esque music. <br><br>Decepticons 2 Suite / Frenzy - The suspenseful strings make me think of Flood's Nightmare on Elm Street work, and the brass writing seems more characteristic of him than Jablonsky to me, though it was still probably a co-written suite. <br><br>Tense Action Suite - Once again reminds me of Flood's Nightmare suspenseful string writing, probably at least co-composed with Jablonsky. <br><br>Clay Duncan - I can guess somewhat based on his contributions to "The Island" but otherwise I don't know much about him so I'm not sure about any of the inferences I'm about the make. <br><br>Angry Camaro - This sort of drone music sounds like it could be him as his contributions were very electronic in The Island.<br><br>Bumblebee vs Barricade - Strange electronics and sounds plus more minimalist writing make me think Duncan. <br><br>Tow Truck Charge - Definitely has The Island's sound. Could be Trevor Morris too. <br><br>TJ Lindgreen: I know so little about his style except he works with Elfman and did additional music for TF: The Game so not much I can say for what he did. <br><br>Belly Shot(?) - The ethereal choir style sounds somewhat like TF: The Game's score and Elfman's choir. <br><br>Not to Hear That(?) - Maybe he composed this motif for Mikaela that also appeared in "Belly Shot". <br><br>Surreal Mikaela(?) - Once again I'm hoping the specific choir sound is part of his style. <br><br>Anything I didn't mention is a track I'm assuming is all Jablonsky. Please note that I'm not trying to take away from Steve's work on this score, and that for most of these track I'm assuming Steve had some involvement in as well, I'm just speculating for fun because I've always wanted to know who did what on this score.LP sadly, but it's also on Spotify.Technical reasons ! lol ;)<br><br>But she was there.Most welcome news. Should be a nice replacement for the Fantastic Beasts score that will have to have been pushed off. I imagine his work on Jungle Cruise will be great as well. 2021 is looking pretty exciting for score releases!
She definitely performed on the score, I don't know why she is uncredited...The poster shows Lorne Balfe as the composer.<br><br>But then it also did have Desplat!So no solo cello by Tina Guo? Is it digital then or is it no cello?CD or LP release?Why is Lorne Balfe not nominated for a Grammy for Ad Astra ?
To my understanding, James never worked for Hans or Remote Control. They’re simply friends and have collaborated on a few projects. Powell (and Gregson-Williams) used to work at Remote Control before moving on to his own studio/endeavors. <br><br>BUT, I am equally as excited for James to return to Disney Animation. Very excited for this and Jungle Cruise.I guess James Newton Howard doesn't count as a Remote Control composer anymore (and yet John Powell does? I don't get it), but anyway, he's scoring Disney Animation Studios' Raya and the Last Dragon. “Ask The Sea”
Oh please be the cue I want...

mpolonest123 2019-07-18 23:43:37
I just want the Sicily Battle music!

Hybrid Soldier2019-07-19 00:08:06
Mera Montage is the big rock vocal cue used during the Sicily Battle & the Wine scene.

Home Invasion the opening soldiers barging in to capture Atlanna, as well as a part of the Black Manta / Orm negotiation scene.

Saving Pops is... the saving pops scene...

Ahab Wave is the tsunami scene + and when Aquaman arrives to the sub to fight Manta's gang.

Ask the Sea is when Aquaman refuses to help Manta's dad.

Olbigation is the soft piece in the plane when Aquaman & Mera talk.

Dunes is the comedic Dunes slide scene...

Backagain442019-07-19 00:13:21
Thanks, that's great!!

Hooe those sessions will be here soon. Still a lot of music music. Would have liked it better if those remixes, were actually score tracks

Ahmad2019-07-19 00:42:49
It's out for me and "Ask The Sea" is exactly the cue I wanted :D It's so good! I actually tweeted at him asking if he'd consider including it in the release - he didn't react to my tweet then and now I wonder if he read it or he planned to include it all along.

I've only seen the movie once and I haven't listened to the score much so I need to revisit it soon.

Knight2019-07-19 04:54:50
Is there any form of chronological order to the original with the deluxe tracks?

Tilibro2019-07-19 13:35:03

It wasnt meant to be
Home invasion
Ahab waves (0:39-end)
Permission to come aboard?

Soldier4442019-07-20 00:20:38
To be honest. I love the bonus score tracks, nut those remixes are a wazte of disc soace in my opinion. I would've rather have 20 extra minutes of score.

Let the Complete Score come!

Hybrid Soldier2019-07-20 09:46:56
You gotta realize one thing, this score is US recorded so every new 15 min of score you release, you gotta pay back reuse fees. So it's very complicated & costy and that's why they released "only" 15 min of extra score.

If it was recorded in the UK, they could have released 2 hours of bonus tracks it wouldn't have cost anything more... :)

As for a chrono order, since all cues are mixed together in different tracks in the OST, it gets complicated... It works like that :

ARTHUR => Theme Suite + 5m30 + 1m05
KINGDOM OF ATLANTIS => 3m20-21
IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE => 1m01 + 1m04B
ATLANTEAN SOLDIERS => Theme Suite + 5m33 + 2m12
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? => Theme Suite
THE LEGEND OF ATLAN => 6m39 + 4m23
SWIMMING LESSONS => 3m19 + 3m19B + 3m19C
THE BLACK MANTA => Theme Suite + 9m69
WHAT COULD BE GREATER THAN A KING? => 7m54 + 7m55 + 7m55A
PERMISSION TO COME ABOARD => 9m64 + 2m07
SUITED AND BOOTED => 8m57 + 8m59
BETWEEN LAND AND SEA => 7m51 + 8m61
HE COMMANDS THE SEA => 8m60 + 9m65
MAP IN A BOTTLE => 6m42 + 8m56
THE RING OF FIRE => 5m29 + 8m62
REUNITED => 9m68
TRENCH ENGAGED => 7m52
MERA MONTAGE => 6m43B + 6m48
HOME INVASION => 1m04 + 3m15
SAVING POPS => 3m18
AHAB WAVES => 3m17 + 2m06B
ASK THE SEA => 2m08B
OBLIGATION => 5m32
DUNES => 5m37-38

Soldier4442019-07-20 10:41:52
Thanks Hybrid for explaining that. Makes more sense now.

Alita2019-07-21 22:49:26

Wow, I didn't know that. So, why not record every movie in the UK/Europe then? Not sure how long it will take but I think this re-use fee will drop once they record every score outside the US.
However, how much money did the movie make in the Boxoffice and Home Entertainment? I'm sure that money can't be an issue here.

How cool would it be to officially buy the sessions in a collectors box (in general for all movies), signed by the composer and director and maybe cast members... I'm sure that could be sold for $200+. The studios are wasting an opportunity here... Sure, you can copy music but you can't copy the signatures.

Hybrid Soldier2019-07-21 23:02:03
Because if the film is an american production, it has no choice but be recorded in the US... That's the rule...

When the film is a UK co-production, and/or partly shot in the UK etc... (like, for instance, every Nolan film, or King Arthur), it can be recorded in the UK... That's why it's way easier to get an expanded set of The Dark Knight or Interstellar than... the POTC saga...

I remember the AFM (American Federation of Musicians) wasn't pleased when Interstellar got recorded at Air Studios in London, claiming it had to be US Recorded... But Nolan's a brit, Syncopy is a British operation based in London...

mpolonest123 2019-02-16 21:28:13
Same here. Considering how well the film has done I am surprised that Warner Bros. hasn’t rushed out a Deluxe Edition by now.

I’m personally dying to hear the full Sicily fight sequence, which includes that badass Mera action motif.

mpolonest123 2019-03-17 01:59:02
Still no news :-/

I wonder if the bonus material RGW promised somehow got delayed.

Maybe he's just busy working on other scores at the moment. You're better off just waiting for the sessions to leak at this point.

Does anybody has any info if it will be available on CD again? It is out of stock everywhere or even absolutely disappeared from the stores (like amazon, which doesn't even list it anymore)
It's weird that a non limited CD that was released barely a month ago goes out of print so soon.
(Yes, I know I can have it digitally but I'm a CD guy, sorry.)

Good day to you all,

Since I saw the film, and have listened to what was offered commercially for the score/soundtrack, all I can think of/hope for is that there may be a more complete version out there.

Is there any word on if there was a "for your consideration" version or what it would take to get Mr. Williams to release the Recording Sessions?

Just really loved the score and would enjoy hearing more of it without all of the effects/dialogue.

spidercrossings2018-12-21 17:38:38
"...all I can think of/hope for is that there may be a more complete version out there. "

There better be because goddammit Mera's theme isn't in the OST. I loved it so damn much. The whole track during the ancient recording device activation is dope but is missing the OST. :/

^ Fingers crossed, there is a handful of important cues missing from this release (including a great MOS-type choral piece during the tsunami scene)

I’m also hoping for Charlie Clouser’s remix of “It’s No Good” to actually get a release as well, not sure why they left that off and opted for that awful Pitbull cover...

James Wan proof once again he is an amazing director.
The movie maintain the same level just like Man of Steel and Wonder Woman
The score, What can i say?. I really enjoyed Wonder Woman but with Aquaman, Rupert gets another level. The score in the film sounds amazing.
Now, it will be the turn of Benjamin in Shazam.

I listened to the track Arthur and it sounds really great. It's an unexpected mix of orchestra and synths (almost 80's style) with a really great theme I suppose is for Aquaman.

I hope the rest of the score is like this.

Jenova2018-12-13 16:07:29
The kind of spacey synth parts reminds me of Blade Runner 2049, and for some reason, Michael Giacchino's work on Star Trek. The more orchestrated triumphant version of the theme is a little like the melodies heard on the Destiny 2 soundtrack.

MrZimmerFan2018-12-13 19:13:53
It's a good score, nice blend between orchestra and synths.

But, i think WW is more interesting score

fkik2018-12-13 22:03:50
Where can we listen this score ?

Jenova2018-12-13 22:12:50
I imagine iTunes and Spotify by Friday. The people commenting on it have likely heard a leaked version.

mpolonest123 2018-12-14 02:25:50
@MrZimmerFan

Gotta agree with you, I definitely think WW is a far stronger score. That’s not to say I think Aquaman is bad, but none of the themes have really impressed me at all. The orchestral/synth hybrid is pretty cool, but once again I think it was done far better with Thor: Ragnarok.

(Will say this though; “Black Manta” is a badass track)

Anonymous2018-12-14 15:43:29
Arthur alone is worth the price of the whole album. Amazing piece.

anyone care to take a stab at the chronological trask listing?

Micah2018-12-17 00:44:40
Off the top of my head:

It Wasn't Meant To Be
Atlantean Soldiers
Permission To Come Aboard
Swimming Lessons
Kingdom of Atlantis
The Legend of Atlan
The Ring of Fire
What Does That Even Mean?
Map In A Bottle
The Black Manta
Trench Engaged
Reunited
What Could Be Greater Than A King?
He Commands The Sea
Suited And Booted

Not sure about Arthur, Between Land And Sea, and He Commands The Sea. I think Arthur may be a suite that includes his main theme, the Atlantis chase, and some action themes. I'd have to listen to the other two tracks again to be sure, but I think He Commands The Sea is near the end.

Iamtommie2018-12-17 14:22:33

Ds2018-12-17 19:06:00
I think 'Arthur' is more a combination of cues than a proper suite.
Not sure, but I'd say the first part plays before 'Permission to come aboard', and the second part plays after 'The Ring of fire'.
'Reunited' is definitely the final cue.

And there's shitload of action music missing after 'The Black Manta' though :-p

OK, now that I’ve had some time to sit on this I can say that I get the praise finally. The Vangelis inspiration works wonders for the score, and it actually is integrated incredibly well (as opposed to just being there for show).

Themewise, both the Arthur and Atlanna tunes are winners. Not sure why the album is so out of sequence though. I feel like the actual film presentation would give better thematic development.

mpolonest123 2018-12-17 17:28:04
And just to clarify, “Atlantean Soldiers” is Orms’ theme right?

aldan reply Replies: 8 || 2018-12-13 17:27:23
the main theme is quite similar to Jackman's Kingsman ( the first three note)

andd..

I assume it is the studio's mandate for RGW to go (and adapt..or imitate?) Mothersbaugh's Ragnarok with its 80s synth.

----

Having seen the movie, i understand why RGW chose the 80s style, because basically, Aquaman is Thor Ragnarok underwater.
Dont get me wrong, the visual spectacle is amazing and colorful ( in a good way), some of the cinematography is downright breathtaking,but i really did have a hardtime enjoying this movie in its fullness beacuse the blatant Ragnarok ripping-off here and there.., and dont get me started on the story...
Really, the visual did the heavy lifting in this movie ( and it succeeded in overcoming the weak storyline)

Hari Haran2018-12-13 17:56:54
Mothersbaugh isn't the only person out there to use 80s synth, you know. You are after all, on the website named after perhaps the greatest pioneer of it in terms of film music.

Also, there is nothing about this film that screams "Thor Ragnarok" ripoff. If anything, the appropriate place to compare is Black Panther- however, as Aquaman and his mythology predates Black Panther by several years, that argument is rendered moot.

Sure, we have regal similarities (king, set in kingdom, evil half brother) but it literally ends there. The story is quite basic, but nowhere like Ragnarok in its entirety. Ragnarok was about two brothers putting aside their differences to stop their evil sister from unleashing Ragnarok itself, whilst Aquaman is about Arthur Curry being forced to reconnect with his Atlantean heritage, and it's explicitly a quest for him to clear Atlantis from a corrupt, purist ruler who wants to hurt the surface world because of how the humans have been mistreating the seas. Aquaman is very much its own thing, and it doesn't need any such comparisons. And I bet, it will stomp past Ragnarok at the box office overall.

Hybrid Soldier2018-12-13 18:07:57
And maybe there's too much synth work in both cause... Andrew K worked on both ?! lol

Oscarilbo2018-12-14 17:41:08
Creatively speaking I can see why they choose that particular synth style, and my guess has nothing to do with that Thor Rganarok score.

It has MUCH to do with one composer: VANGELIS. You cannot see Aquaman landscapes and not to think of Vangelis (Blade Runner to be precise) and by all means, if you know well Mr. Papathanassiou's body of work, in his style.. he even has an album called OCEANIC.

I mean, RGW even uses the same exact 5 notes in which Vangelis tended to end up some of his themes, as also closing notes for one of his themes. It has nothing to do with Ragnarok.. lets not be so short sighted please.

Anonymous2018-12-15 15:43:20
Makes you wonder why they didn't get Vangelis himself.

Anonymous2018-12-15 17:49:57
by that logic he would’ve done blade runner 2049. He’s retired

Anonymous2018-12-16 17:32:03
Does the cue "Arthur" play during the film or is it a theme suite?

Everan2018-12-16 22:02:34
Yes, both played in the film, and it's sort of a suite: It's split into two in the film, first part sounds close to the opening, the heavy synth part plays in really well when it's used, you'll hear it the moment it starts, no spoilers from me, but it's an awesome sequence.

Mephariel2018-12-17 07:31:58
Everything from "He Commands the Sea" on is awesome. In many ways, this is a RCP superhero score. Not much depth, but contains some awesome highlights.

Is the soundtrack released on CD, or it's only digital ?

It's confirmed a CD release, but not confirm if is a CD-R

Any news on the release date? I've seen both the 14th and 21st. No word from Watertower makes me think the 21st might be the actual date.

George2018-12-13 00:06:20
Rupert Gregson-Williams stated on his twitter page that it will be released the 14th

mpolonest123 reply Replies: 0 || 2018-12-12 23:43:36
Supposedly there is some Joseph Bishara music for the “Trench Sequence”. For anyone who has seen the film was this something original or was it music tracked in from other Bishara scores?

Iamtommie reply Replies: 0 || 2018-12-12 23:17:07
OK. Aquaman is a great film with some flaws. Momoa, Heard, Wilson, Kidman & Lundgren are very good. IMO the movie has a rocky start, but from a certain scene the movie takes flight and never comes down.

Gregson-Williams' score is awesome I think. It sounds like a mix between BvS, WW & BR2049 with some gituar, drums & piano here and there. Very curious what kind of release it will get.

For me Wonder Woman is still the best DCEU movie but Aquaman isn't far behind!!! Solid 8.8

Speaking of bad covers...

For reals. I felt so bad for Rupert that this was all that was offered to represent his score. looks like someone hustled a quick redesign though https://twitter.com/MikhahThomas/status/1071501461215956992
