I don't think everybody thinks it's bad you just have to look at the development of the franchise. In the first pirates we got very nice melodys and tunes that are still legendary and so they set the tune for all the other pirates movies. In the second one we got a much darker yet very good developed score that has again new themes for new characters but uses themes from the first one as well. Then the third movie came along and everybody can think about the film what he wants but the music... man the music from the third one is really the cherry on the top of the entire franchise cause here we got all themes in new majestic versions plus one of the most beautyful love themes ever. So now you would think "Ok, I guess by judging by the development, the next one will be at least as great as the last one" but instead of this case we just got old themes in flat versions and the music is not bad but it just has not this kind of drive like the others. For sure if this score would have been the first one, the crowd would have reacted differently but hey, the movie wasn't that good as well so I guess it all equals out :DBecause they mixed several passages of past scores into scenes completely disconnected from those for which the music was composed at first. There is a chase scene with the music for the maelstrom. The love theme for Will and Elisabeth comes up without either of them being in the movie or in scenes that nerver mention their names. The same with the theme for Beckett. And half of the commercial CD was remixes of DJsCan I ask why everybody is so negative about this score.
I actually really love it. New themes for Spaniard, Mermaids and Blackbeard are good.
Okay, Hans re-used stuff from the previous 3 but it's still a great score.

Why does everybody else think it's bad? Would somebody please explain this to meWell said. Itís not a terrible score by any means, but the lack of continuity is incredibly disappointing. There were so many times in the movie that practically screamed for Hansí themes. The only point I heard one was the Krypton theme for (maybe) 15 seconds and that was just an insert from a previous film. Iíd love to do a fan project once the movie is released and insert music from Man of Steel/BvS and see how it changes the feel of this film.YFM, your work is awesome. Long time lurk-listener. Looking forward to this,
Bah leave me alone, I still need a few years to overcome the fall of House DC... What a horrible movie that JL was, I can't get over it... lolIf you love these peoplegeneral zod : )After listening to this score a few times, I am starting to enjoy it. It's not fantastic, but it's not absolutely horrible, either. While I am very disappointed that Zimmer didn't score the film, and that Elfman didn't preserve the series' music continuity very well, I feel the score does hold up fairly well on its own. It introduces some nice motifs, and honestly, hearing the old Batman theme again is awesome, especially in tracks like "Then There Were Three" and "The Final Battle". Some may think it's out of place, but I feel it fits this iteration of the character. But then, Elfman gets lazy with some of the tracks. The opening of "The Amazon Mother Box" sounds like Elfman's theme for "Hulk", while the motif for the Justice League team is very reminiscent of the Avengers theme motif.

On the other hand, hearing the original Superman theme feels a bit odd - I love that theme, but the joyousness that Williams put into it doesn't fit this version of the character. Zimmer's amazing theme means so much in this series, and Elfman didn't reprise it once. Elfman did briefly reprise a trumpet rendition of Wonder Woman's theme, which was nice, but I personally expected to hear it a little more. And it made me even more confused as to why he didn't reprise other themes.

Personally I don't think Elfman was the best choice to score the film, but I don't think he did a horrible job. I would've loved to have heard Zimmer's score, considering the amazing work he's done for the series. Hopefully in the future, the themes he composed will be reprised more.Instant (corrector problems)
For one intance I really thought it was lorne balfe disguisedI really hope we get the FYC! The score needs to be heard in full

Great work btw!the fyc is comming soon ;-)
maybe we get the "film version"The above "Anonymous" is just me. I forgot to type the name.LOL@George, Lorne has been retweeting all the SkyDance's tweets on Mission Impossible movies. And they never really announced that Kraemer is returning to compose MI:6. Everybody just assumed he would. So, I'm pretty sure Lorne's doing it. I could be wrong, though.
I'm working on my own version of "The Mole", "Escaping The Mole", or whatever the long warped/over music edited tension cue is named.

nightly demos will be posted every day until I finish it, but it sounds fine now if you "must have" it.

soundcloud.com/yourfavoratemusic/hans-zimmer-dunkirk-escapin g-the-mole-nightly-demoExcept that Zimmer's "happy jolly" comment was completely off the mark. That's now how I'd describe the tone of Elfman's Batman theme at all. It's brooding and dark, but in more of an old-school Gothic orchestral kind of way that still allowed for some bursts of heroism. I still maintain the theme itself could have worked in Nolan's films, albeit with substantially changed orchestrations and tone (and doesn't Zimmer kinda-sorta quote it at 7:18 in "A Dark Knight" anyways?).I do not know ... MI6 is a "Bad Robot" production, JJ Abrams's company. They often work with Kraemer, Trapanese, Beck... But isn't impossible.Hybrid's silence can mean something. Thanks!John Powell is doing open messaging on Facebook for another hour or so. (He had to clarify - send him a message on his page, don't comment on his post. And no, he can't say a word about Han Solo....I already asked a general question. No surprise. :P)

Yes ! Now this is ACTION MUSIC . Not just loud drums or Baaaaaaams!!!

JBSO992017-10-20 09:45:49
Well, there is a bit of BAAAAM in some tracks, see Lightning Chase, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing in action music if it's not overused.
I like this score but the people in this page I think they overreact a little woth every Balfe score. I mean, they're great, but I don't think all of them are the best score of the year. It also looks like most of this people does not listen many score apart from RCP scores.

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 13:25:14
I couldn't agree with you more JBSO99. I don't know what's up this year because a ton of Balfe fanboys seem to have crawled out of the woodwork. He's having a very solid year but people are acting like every score he puts out is a masterpiece or something, which...nah.

Mike2017-10-20 13:41:47
Your right Edmund ..... how dare we take about any other composer apart from Zimmer or John Powell! Thankfully your point of view is in the minority. There is obviously a reason why he is one of the busiest composers . Geostorm isnít original BUT itís great music and I like it at least

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 13:57:15
I like it too but I don't understand why this thread is full of slobbering fanboys while nobody is talking about, say, Kingsman 2 which is just as good. I don't want to stop anyone talking about his music but did we really need every day this year for someone to go "oh my god I can't wait for Lorne to release another unreleased cue from Ghost in the Shell"? It doesn't contribute anything meaningful and makes this site look even more like a YouTube comments section than it already does.

Waymann2017-10-20 15:04:50
I agree, I'm shocked no one is talking about how great Ramin Djawadi's score is for The Mountain Between Us. Much better than this new Lorne Balfe score, I'm mean really, this Geostorm score is just a constant reminder to other scores from RCP from the past. Nothing original here. Only the track May Day is memorable.

Peters2017-10-20 15:24:10
How pathietic that it bothers some ,that some of us are excited about another composers music. Get a life people. Balfe has become a great composer this year so give him a break . If you donít like it , you can find another forum

Ando2017-10-20 15:33:34
Due to Edmund getting upset !!!! Iím scared to ask about if anyone knows about The Florida Project ????

James2017-10-20 17:20:09
I do not think anyone here is hurting because another composer besides of the HZ - JP - HGW triad is being well received by the audience. Well, I agree that this behavior in any session regardless of who the composer is, is very uncomfortable. But we have to understand that each an of the RCP guys has its glory days. Balfe is conquering his. The problem is the proportions of compliments. Many people liked PoTc 5 (best RCP score of the year in my opinion, of course), for example, many also hated, the justifications were many, but the discussion was balanced. If you enter on the forum of any score of any composer you find diverse but balanced opinions, what is missing in the forums about Balfe scores is this balance. Nothing against the growth of his popularity or the reception of his scores, only the judgments that seem a little too exaggerated. It's even a little weird.

JBSO992017-10-20 17:31:04
I'm not saying that I don't like his music, because I really do, but I think there are also a lot of composers this year that have created amazing scores and they don't get the same talk. Let's mention Ramin Djawadi for The Mountain Between Us, Benjamin Wallfisch for A Cure For Wellness and It, and even outside of RCP like Giacchino with his fantastic War for the Planet of the Apes, Beltrami with The Snowman or the recent Ragnarok by Mothersbaugh (well, this does not belong in this page, so I understand why there is no talk about him).
And I repeat that I like Balfe, but not everything he does is perfect, and for example this, I don't consider it too original, because it reminds me to a lot of older scores. And for example, from Balfe I think one of the best was Churchill, and that didn't get much talk or praise neither.

LP2017-10-20 17:36:19
Just wondering, why would anyone have an issue with people who go into a Lorne Balfe soundtrack page to rave about the work of Lorne Balfe?

LP2017-10-20 17:40:33
> Waymann - Ramin did good work on A Mountain Between us. Completely atypical of his recent outputs, and showed more range. It is rooted a bit in his work on Hans' rom-com scores (i.e. The Holiday) and sounds excellent overall.

James2017-10-20 17:54:00
Anything, @LP. I myself have spent several hours of my life listening Balfe's work and, of course, commenting here.

It's okay to get on a page and say "this is the best score of all ages" or "this is the worst shit I've ever heard", as long as this behavior is restricted to a minority who has make the mistake of making this kind of comment because not listened to many jobs of the same composer or of other composers or who do not respect his efforts to carry out the work.

...2017-10-20 18:28:30
Everybody is free to love whatever music they want, but I agree that the Balfe praise is a bit over the top. I mean I saw a comment that said that all of Balfe's scores from 2017 were the best of their genre which I think is over the top. I mean nothing against Balfe, he's a very good composer, but I just don't think he deserves all that praise about him being the best.

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 18:39:01
This is already a much more interesting conversation than all the blind praise that was being spilled earlier. Thanks guys! :D

Miguel 2017-10-20 19:23:49
If you have an issue with Balfe simply donít click on Geostorm etc! Just ignore it . God knows why Edmund gets so upset !!!! You donít have to read the posts

GavFilmmusic2017-10-20 19:34:25
Have to agree because if you havenít an interest in Lorneís work then just donít goto his films topics ! Either way I like the suite here good old school MV

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 19:59:27
I'm not upset, nor am I disinterested in Balfe's work. Don't get me wrong. I welcome any and all discussion! But there's a difference between "discussion" and "blind fanboy gushing", and I've seen way more of the latter here this year than the former.

Ds2017-10-20 23:48:59
I think we all agree, Lorne Balfe is getting better and better, he's working at the speed of light and handles many different genres. Plus, he seems to be a very cool person. I'm really happy he got there, and I believe he'll be getting some major movies in the next few years (Terminator Genysis, Geostorm & Ghost in the Shell don't count, they were predicted failures undergoing a damage control process).

But anyway, I think his best solo score is still Home.

James2017-10-21 00:10:14
Yep. He will be in Nightwing's next solo movie

rockhound2017-10-21 07:57:55
hybrid created a very good suite from this movie, also because he left out the more uninteresting action stuff. the whole score is not original, but the themes are great because they transport emotions and excitement. the quiter parts are also very nice. im sure the actionmusic is very functional in the movie, but as a stand alone listening experience it is not very convincing. too much electronics which make too much noise. when the themes kick in, it sounds good, but a better mix of orchestra and electronics would have helped. sadly you won't find a second "Burn around the moon" or "Goodbye/Landing" from Armageddon in this score.

Macejko2017-10-22 13:11:39
I find all of this extremely strange. Just about two years ago people were almost universally hating on Lorne every time he became attached to a new project. And now? Orgasms everywhere. I mean, I liked Lego Batman as much as the next guy, and I adore Beyond: Two Souls. But such a blind praise for Geostorm, of all scores? It is, in my opinion, pretty mediocre and overall forgettable. Could this be a PR campaign for that piece of shit movie nobody wants to see?

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-22 14:36:48
That's pretty funny to hear "blind praise" from you, considering how much you think Ramin reinvented powder after every single note of music he wrote ! ;) lol

Macejko2017-10-22 15:10:56
Now that was just a low-hanging fruit, Hybrid :P :D

Bibi2017-10-22 21:21:19

"Amazing!" "Revolutionary!" "I can die tomorrow, my life is complete!"

SPECTER2017-10-28 04:54:52
Lorne is good composer but a lot of his solo stuff to me sounds average. He is missing that little touch of HZ magic

PeterM2017-10-28 11:21:20
You think Churchil sounded average ?

Andreas2017-10-28 17:32:10
Average !!!!!!! Genius is defiantly not average and what about Ghost in The Shell.a truly amazing score

Ian2017-10-28 21:15:07
I'm with SPECTER - Lorne is undoubtably competent, but man does a lot of his solo stuff sound generic and use extremely similar mannerisms and structure from score to score. Admittedly Zimmer does this too, especially recently, but Zimmer's best scores are among the best scores ever, while Lorne's best scores are simply very good.

Miguel2017-10-28 22:17:27
I donít think anyone is comparing Balfe to Zimmer . Zimmer is best in the world but Balfe has many years to improve .also if Balfe wasnít any good then why does Zimmer still have him help out ?????

Saw the movie yesterday, and it was exciting, just like to see a new king of Armageddon film, nothing like Roland Emmerich 2012 and the day after tomorrow. The score was superb. It has de classic Media Ventures/Remote Control tune, and i hear some references to Trevor Rabin's score like Armageddon, Deep BLue and National Treasure.
By the way, not Danny Cannon and Jerry Bruckheimer had credits on the film. Why is that?

Great to hear BIG themes back again in films. Love this suite

Waymann2017-10-12 08:33:29
It's like themes have been gone for ages?? There is much more out there than what RCP puts out you know.

rockhound2017-10-12 09:36:12
in this kind of movies, you haven't heard strong themes for many years. the last desaster movies with lots of strong themes were Armageddon and Deep Impact.

Iamtommie2017-10-12 11:41:43
Maybe not in dksaster movies, but if you are talking about BiG themes again in filmmusic.
If you listen to a few scores of Michael Giacchino, there are enoigh themes in there

Kravos2017-10-12 13:52:05
I ment themes you can actually remember !!!

Iamtommie2017-10-12 17:00:11

If we speaked of Giacchino, there is a plenty: John Carter's theme, Jyn Erso's theme, Krennic's theme, Vulture's theme, Tomorrowland Main Theme...

Even Speed Racer (one of my favorites)

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-12 19:01:50
Giacchino talk ?

Kingfannypack2017-10-13 07:20:21
And if we are talking about Giacchino, the entire Jurassic World score- that is a great score that used alot of original themes. It had callbacks to John Williams' contribution but stood on its own very well- especially the suite!

George reply Replies: 7 || 2017-10-08 21:43:46
Hybrid, random question.. do you think this music represents a trend of Hollywood wanting more thematic music once again rather than soundscapes? We had some good melodic scores this year like LEGO Batman, Wonder Woman, Pirates 5, TF5, etc.. and then this. And was just wondering if you think we can start expecting this to become the norm once again?

Waymann2017-10-09 08:52:19
I don't think they are a norm again. It just depends on what's best for the movie. It's not like composers think like hmm let's make a thematic score when the movie doesn't need one.

...2017-10-09 10:00:51
Composers in general probably find it more rewarding to write melodic thematic music, unless you're someone like Trent Raznor... but whatever is good for the film is the composer's job.

AP19802017-10-09 12:36:13
Finally some melodies !!!!! The tracks sound fantastic .

Waymann2017-10-09 14:11:13
I have to say this sounds like 52 minutes of epic fun. But nothing really sticks in the end. Read on twitter this is going to be released this friday digitally.

James2017-10-09 16:41:36
Nah!

1. This is a Bruckheimer movie, just like Potc5. Then it will sound like the old MV scores.
2. Transformers is a Bay movie, which makes it a twin movie to those produced by Brckheimer. Soon...

3. RGW has adopted the old MV sound as their "personal style" for years.

Conclusion: There is nothing new under the sun.

Andrew2017-10-09 18:45:58

"The contender theme" aka "Thor theme" in 3:45!

Jake2017-10-09 02:28:17
I noticed that too. Clearly was temped with that, but he did a decent job at making it unique-ish

This is really taking me back to that classic MV sound, albeit with better production. It's like a mix of Armageddon/Transformers with a tiny dash of Mark Mancina.

Sorry but I can't feel it or honestly I hate it I mean the suite. for me the only melody that make me really shaking and full of adrenaline is "seglass Ni Tonday" by Steve jablonsky TF 5. Zimmer this year is inconvenience 😞 at all. May be the blue planet by him soundtrack will change my mind?!!!

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-08 16:58:28
What has HZ to do with this score... ?

rockhound2017-10-08 18:09:46
thanks for suite hybrid. the music sounds very entertaining and makes me want to see the movie. i love the theme that starts around 3:57. and the theme at the end of the suite sounds a bit like the ALL SPARK theme from Transformers. also great. cant wait for the score.

F... me! sounds like an awesome old-school MV score with bunch of heroic motifs!
I dig it!

Well the suite alone is a lot more interesting to me than most Balfe scores, but it still has too many Zimmer vibes to me. It sounds like a combination of Gladiator and MCU scores with a very hard to identify melody.

Appreciate it

The color palette of the cover is very similar to that of Inception.

JBSO992017-10-08 12:36:49
That's what I tought when I saw it first. In fact I tought this was the Inception page but then I realized it was too similar!

PS: Hybrid, the suite sounds amazing. It reminds me a bit of fantastic scores like At World's End, The Last Samurai and even the first Transformers. It looks like it's going to be great

Get ready for a bunch of big epic old school MV electro orchestral in here, especially keep an eye for Take-Off & the last 3 tracks ! lol ;)

Manulder2017-10-06 13:43:19
Cd or digital only ?

JBSO992017-10-06 14:43:40
Is this released today in digital format? I knew the movie and the CD were coming out on the 20th of this month but I didn't knew anything about a digital release.

Epic old school electro orchestral, this is like heaven music for me! Very good news

Waymann2017-10-06 15:07:16
I don't think it's released digital today, can't find it. Digital releases are mostly the same day as US theatrical release. October 20th it is.

Kalman2017-10-06 16:25:29
It seems that the CD version is only a CD-R manufactured on demand. At least that's all I have found so far. Never mind, still better than a download only version.

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-06 18:05:23
Seems like there'll be a CD (R ?)... It's out in 2 weeks, I'll try to put some badass suite when I can...

DisaterMovie2017-10-06 18:18:59
lol your suites are terrible

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-06 18:24:06
Thanks ! :-*

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-06 18:24:27
So... you have listened to them... ;)

Ds2017-10-06 22:00:42
Hybrid Soldier: Lorne should definitely hire you in his PR team, because the way you're selling his soundtracks is incredibly efficient. Now I litterally can't wait for that one :-D

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-08 10:27:42
My terrible suite is up ! :)

fs2017-10-08 12:33:18
first few minutes reminds me for some parts from armageddon :)
