Yeah seriously, he hasnít done much in a year plus. Heís definitely taken some time off for touring and other things, which may be a great thing for his inspiration... who knows, but Iím guessing the time off has let his brain take a break and maybe he has a ton of new ideas for the big 3 (WW:84, Dark Phoenix, Lion King) coming up in the next year and a half.

Or maybe Iím just hopeful/wishful thinking lol.Plus, Blue Planet II came out last year. That score is as far from Widows as possible.I'm not sure, but I think this site is not the right place to ask for copyright, since it is "almost official". But, here you can find the label of every officially released album you want, so you can ask the company labeled. That collaboration was barely a year ago. This is literally Zimmer's first significant score since then. You can't deduce a pattern from two data points.IMDb says that Lorne is one of the 3 composers of Battlefield V. I am confused.... :D
Well, if you check what Hans Zimmer did recently there wasn't much material for him to write a good theme too. A lot of it was types of movies that were synth type music. I think The Dark Phoenix and Wonder Woman (apart from his amazing theme for her already) will have some good typical Hans Zimmer feel to it which I am excited for.For the first time of my life but with sound experience, I assist on that one too. A very good job from all that team.
I only was surprised to not see Hans Zimmer itself and quickly understood that it was "the world of..." and not HZ live ! No regret for my first even if I'm a bit frustrated and regret my mistake ;o)
Do you have a tip for me to do it again and avoid that mistake again? When you purchase a ticket, it's hard, you have sometimes to go deeper to see that, finally, he's not gonna be there!
Have a great day U all.
I wishCool Hybrid! Been at the concert in Oberhausen last Saturday. A lot better then expected to be honest. Pedro's Oogway's Ascend was very good, Pedro outdid himself there (at the 2nd Zimmer concerts I thought he wasnt that great compared to Richard).

Yeah! The hell are the other comments about though? The Last Stand is miles ahead of X2. You weren't even saying TLS was the best X-men score, you were just saying it's Powell's best score. Man people are dumb
Hi, I want to add some seconds of 8 track for the background of my small documentary about races, my first one, is it possibile to ask for copyright? Should I write to some email addresses?
I'm kind of the same way, even on a personal level. The synth and power anthems, even from the Media Ventures era, is just kind of getting old to me. The incessant momentum, the lack of thematic progression, it all wears on you eventually.I think you really nailed how I feel about this score. I donít personally mind the tense electronic elements (this is music that I can enjoy on its own level) but I do feel let down by the lack of a theme or any solid motif to anchor the music. Especially in the emotional cues.

The one thing that I keep coming back to is how this sounds so much like something Johann Johansson would have written. I actually really like his music style, but it is pretty jarring to see Zimmer do minimalism on this level. No objections here, but I canít wait to get some exciting Zimmer music again. Not for nothing but it's kinda odd how Zimmer has been declining ever since, IMO, his collaboration with Wallfisch on Blade Runner 2049....

Honestly, I've been straying towards John Carpenter's Halloween 2018 and horror synth ever since....is Zimmer retiring or something? Because I'm finding myself not into him so much, anymore.I honestly wasn't expecting much from this film on a musical level, but some tracks that are available are OK to listen to. McQueen has never been a proponent of larger-scale thematic music in his scores, he seems to be a mood-inspired person, and Zimmer can do that very, very well.

Coming back to the music, Zimmer seems to have embraced his textural roots. 2018 has been all about texture really in the action films, i.e. Black Panther's percussion layers, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Widows. Thematically, there seems to be a solemn progression for Marcus that reappears in "My Son", that relies on familiar elements (i.e. drone strings layered on top of each other, lower bass accompaniment), and some of the action textures in "We Have A Job To Do" and "Perimeter Check" is a nice callback to the Media Ventures style of things.

I'm admittedly disappointed with the fact that there is nothing beyond residually, well-anchored momentum and tension to the score, and the album length is shocking. But it is what it is. I love the underlying, throbbing synth bass ripples, I've always had a soft spot for them.

Honestly, it's a one time listen for me. I'm more excited about his dual superhero bonanza return next year- Wonder Woman 1984 and X-Men Dark Phoenix. I'm definitely not expecting him to use John Ottman's brilliant theme for the latter, although I will definitely be impressed if by slight chance, he does. The "Money" is quite soothing in a melancholy way. "The Calm Before The Storm" uses some worthwhile sombre piano treading that I'm always a stickler for.
Come to Bratislava, Slovakia too.I wonder with all of the Easter eggs if Jackman will incorporate some character themes like possibly the Imperial March for Storm Troopers Or Disney themed for the Disney characters@Anonymous on the Blu-ray it should have surround sound. Just that it's out on iTunes in Australia already - which is how I got it - and iTunes bonus features are obviously only in stereo.

@Ahmad - the benefit here is really all the film version edits of the cues we already have on the album. And some of them are quite different from the album ones....

The tracklist I came up with for now for the iso score. Total runtime is 2:08:16.

A Storm Is Coming (Logos) / Julia / Good Evening, Mr. Hunt	4:51
Self-Destruct	0:23
Plutonium Trade / A Terrible Choice	6:14
The Manifesto	1:46
Fallout (Main Titles) / Your Mission (Part 1)	2:07
Your Mission (Part 2)	2:21
Free Fall (Part 1)	1:57
Free Fall (Part 2)	2:14
Grand Palais / Consequences Of Love	2:01
Bathroom	6:12
No Pain, No Gain (Outro) / As Ugly As They Come 2:09
I'll See You In My Dreams / Widow Bar	2:33
The White Widow / Should You Choose To Accept...	5:38
Busy Day Tomorrow	0:41
Framing Ethan / The Exchange	6:37
Escape Through Paris	6:11
Steps Ahead	1:11
Je Suis Dťsolť	1:04
Unfinished Business	0:34
Did You Ever Choose Not To?	1:51
You're Mine Now	0:30
We Are Never Free	4:52
Widow In London	1:45
Trapped	3:14
The Mission Is Terminated	2:02
No Hard Feelings / The Exhortation	6:46
Stairs & Rooftops	6:25
Kashmir	7:10
Julia (Reprise) / Fate Whispers To The Warrior	5:06
And The Warrior Whispers Back	8:20
I Am The Storm (Part 1)	4:12
I Am The Storm (Part 2)	1:21
Scalpel & Hammer	3:47
Cutting On One	1:25
The Last Resort 1:48
There's No Reason To Be Sorry / Mission: Accomplished (Curtain Call)	4:51
End Credits	6:28I wonder what the quality on the disc will be like but definitely not expecting lossless. Three commentaries and the isolated score and language tracks. That's a lot and the movie is not short lol.

In general, I don't think we're missing much to begin with (but it's really cool and should be done more often). There's a cool bit where the "Syndicate" theme was used I think in the film version of "Escape Through Paris" and the album version doesn't have that bit.ur kidding. is it like the last jedi? why cant it be in surround sound

Completely forgot how good this score is. Nothing new or groundbreaking... but an awesome homage to classic RCP days with a more modern production sound. Such a fun score.

Andy reply Replies: 3 || 2018-02-26 15:06:43
Are you arseholes dumb? This score sounds like the samples got molested by a bunch of alligators.

What the fuck. 20 years ago this would have had an awesome score by a David Arnold or even a Hans Zimmer. Now it sounds like my nephew did it on yuotube, except they have better samples. What the fuck. This was a 150 million film. How could Balfe make it so, so, so, so, interminaly CHEAP.

Scorefan2018-06-25 22:48:10
The answer is the way hollywood producers want the music.
First, Pinar Toprak was the chosen one to score the film. After, with the film in a mess, Jerry Bruckheimer came to add more money and Danny Canon to reshot the film. Bruckheimer is a RCP fan, so, he rejected Pinar and Lorne came to score. The product is a score like in the old days of MV. Not bad or epic, just a good and enjoyable score.

MirisMusic2018-06-25 23:44:55
Andy - you are stupid

Scorefan- from what I have heard from those connected to the project , the Warner Brothers wanted the score replaced .Many test screenings occurred and the music was an issue .Balfe has always been a reliable composer to bring in and fix scores. From all accounts Balfes score was a massive improvement.

Carlos2018-06-26 09:03:10
Your nephew must be doing well then Andy !

Andy reply Replies: 30 || 2017-10-19 23:02:53
Yes ! Now this is ACTION MUSIC . Not just loud drums or Baaaaaaams!!!

JBSO992017-10-20 09:45:49
Well, there is a bit of BAAAAM in some tracks, see Lightning Chase, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing in action music if it's not overused.
I like this score but the people in this page I think they overreact a little woth every Balfe score. I mean, they're great, but I don't think all of them are the best score of the year. It also looks like most of this people does not listen many score apart from RCP scores.

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 13:25:14
I couldn't agree with you more JBSO99. I don't know what's up this year because a ton of Balfe fanboys seem to have crawled out of the woodwork. He's having a very solid year but people are acting like every score he puts out is a masterpiece or something, which...nah.

Mike2017-10-20 13:41:47
Your right Edmund ..... how dare we take about any other composer apart from Zimmer or John Powell! Thankfully your point of view is in the minority. There is obviously a reason why he is one of the busiest composers . Geostorm isnít original BUT itís great music and I like it at least

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 13:57:15
I like it too but I don't understand why this thread is full of slobbering fanboys while nobody is talking about, say, Kingsman 2 which is just as good. I don't want to stop anyone talking about his music but did we really need every day this year for someone to go "oh my god I can't wait for Lorne to release another unreleased cue from Ghost in the Shell"? It doesn't contribute anything meaningful and makes this site look even more like a YouTube comments section than it already does.

Waymann2017-10-20 15:04:50
I agree, I'm shocked no one is talking about how great Ramin Djawadi's score is for The Mountain Between Us. Much better than this new Lorne Balfe score, I'm mean really, this Geostorm score is just a constant reminder to other scores from RCP from the past. Nothing original here. Only the track May Day is memorable.

Peters2017-10-20 15:24:10
How pathietic that it bothers some ,that some of us are excited about another composers music. Get a life people. Balfe has become a great composer this year so give him a break . If you donít like it , you can find another forum

Ando2017-10-20 15:33:34
Due to Edmund getting upset !!!! Iím scared to ask about if anyone knows about The Florida Project ????

James2017-10-20 17:20:09
I do not think anyone here is hurting because another composer besides of the HZ - JP - HGW triad is being well received by the audience. Well, I agree that this behavior in any session regardless of who the composer is, is very uncomfortable. But we have to understand that each an of the RCP guys has its glory days. Balfe is conquering his. The problem is the proportions of compliments. Many people liked PoTc 5 (best RCP score of the year in my opinion, of course), for example, many also hated, the justifications were many, but the discussion was balanced. If you enter on the forum of any score of any composer you find diverse but balanced opinions, what is missing in the forums about Balfe scores is this balance. Nothing against the growth of his popularity or the reception of his scores, only the judgments that seem a little too exaggerated. It's even a little weird.

JBSO992017-10-20 17:31:04
I'm not saying that I don't like his music, because I really do, but I think there are also a lot of composers this year that have created amazing scores and they don't get the same talk. Let's mention Ramin Djawadi for The Mountain Between Us, Benjamin Wallfisch for A Cure For Wellness and It, and even outside of RCP like Giacchino with his fantastic War for the Planet of the Apes, Beltrami with The Snowman or the recent Ragnarok by Mothersbaugh (well, this does not belong in this page, so I understand why there is no talk about him).
And I repeat that I like Balfe, but not everything he does is perfect, and for example this, I don't consider it too original, because it reminds me to a lot of older scores. And for example, from Balfe I think one of the best was Churchill, and that didn't get much talk or praise neither.

LP2017-10-20 17:36:19
Just wondering, why would anyone have an issue with people who go into a Lorne Balfe soundtrack page to rave about the work of Lorne Balfe?

LP2017-10-20 17:40:33
> Waymann - Ramin did good work on A Mountain Between us. Completely atypical of his recent outputs, and showed more range. It is rooted a bit in his work on Hans' rom-com scores (i.e. The Holiday) and sounds excellent overall.

James2017-10-20 17:54:00
Anything, @LP. I myself have spent several hours of my life listening Balfe's work and, of course, commenting here.

It's okay to get on a page and say "this is the best score of all ages" or "this is the worst shit I've ever heard", as long as this behavior is restricted to a minority who has make the mistake of making this kind of comment because not listened to many jobs of the same composer or of other composers or who do not respect his efforts to carry out the work.

...2017-10-20 18:28:30
Everybody is free to love whatever music they want, but I agree that the Balfe praise is a bit over the top. I mean I saw a comment that said that all of Balfe's scores from 2017 were the best of their genre which I think is over the top. I mean nothing against Balfe, he's a very good composer, but I just don't think he deserves all that praise about him being the best.

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 18:39:01
This is already a much more interesting conversation than all the blind praise that was being spilled earlier. Thanks guys! :D

Miguel 2017-10-20 19:23:49
If you have an issue with Balfe simply donít click on Geostorm etc! Just ignore it . God knows why Edmund gets so upset !!!! You donít have to read the posts

GavFilmmusic2017-10-20 19:34:25
Have to agree because if you havenít an interest in Lorneís work then just donít goto his films topics ! Either way I like the suite here good old school MV

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-20 19:59:27
I'm not upset, nor am I disinterested in Balfe's work. Don't get me wrong. I welcome any and all discussion! But there's a difference between "discussion" and "blind fanboy gushing", and I've seen way more of the latter here this year than the former.

Ds2017-10-20 23:48:59
I think we all agree, Lorne Balfe is getting better and better, he's working at the speed of light and handles many different genres. Plus, he seems to be a very cool person. I'm really happy he got there, and I believe he'll be getting some major movies in the next few years (Terminator Genysis, Geostorm & Ghost in the Shell don't count, they were predicted failures undergoing a damage control process).

But anyway, I think his best solo score is still Home.

James2017-10-21 00:10:14
Yep. He will be in Nightwing's next solo movie

rockhound2017-10-21 07:57:55
hybrid created a very good suite from this movie, also because he left out the more uninteresting action stuff. the whole score is not original, but the themes are great because they transport emotions and excitement. the quiter parts are also very nice. im sure the actionmusic is very functional in the movie, but as a stand alone listening experience it is not very convincing. too much electronics which make too much noise. when the themes kick in, it sounds good, but a better mix of orchestra and electronics would have helped. sadly you won't find a second "Burn around the moon" or "Goodbye/Landing" from Armageddon in this score.

Macejko2017-10-22 13:11:39
I find all of this extremely strange. Just about two years ago people were almost universally hating on Lorne every time he became attached to a new project. And now? Orgasms everywhere. I mean, I liked Lego Batman as much as the next guy, and I adore Beyond: Two Souls. But such a blind praise for Geostorm, of all scores? It is, in my opinion, pretty mediocre and overall forgettable. Could this be a PR campaign for that piece of shit movie nobody wants to see?

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-22 14:36:48
That's pretty funny to hear "blind praise" from you, considering how much you think Ramin reinvented powder after every single note of music he wrote ! ;) lol

Macejko2017-10-22 15:10:56
Now that was just a low-hanging fruit, Hybrid :P :D

Bibi2017-10-22 21:21:19
Another dropmic from Hybrid !

james2017-10-22 21:57:13
Well... Waymann and LP are The only ones to refer to Djwadi...

And yet no one shouted:

"Amazing!" "Revolutionary!" "I can die tomorrow, my life is complete!"

SPECTER2017-10-28 04:54:52
Lorne is good composer but a lot of his solo stuff to me sounds average. He is missing that little touch of HZ magic

PeterM2017-10-28 11:21:20
You think Churchil sounded average ?

Andreas2017-10-28 17:32:10
Average !!!!!!! Genius is defiantly not average and what about Ghost in The Shell.a truly amazing score

Ian2017-10-28 21:15:07
I'm with SPECTER - Lorne is undoubtably competent, but man does a lot of his solo stuff sound generic and use extremely similar mannerisms and structure from score to score. Admittedly Zimmer does this too, especially recently, but Zimmer's best scores are among the best scores ever, while Lorne's best scores are simply very good.

Miguel2017-10-28 22:17:27
I donít think anyone is comparing Balfe to Zimmer . Zimmer is best in the world but Balfe has many years to improve .also if Balfe wasnít any good then why does Zimmer still have him help out ?????

Saw the movie yesterday, and it was exciting, just like to see a new king of Armageddon film, nothing like Roland Emmerich 2012 and the day after tomorrow. The score was superb. It has de classic Media Ventures/Remote Control tune, and i hear some references to Trevor Rabin's score like Armageddon, Deep BLue and National Treasure.
By the way, not Danny Cannon and Jerry Bruckheimer had credits on the film. Why is that?

Peter882017-10-25 22:10:49
Loved the film and score even though it has bad reviews. The end music was amazing

Waymann2017-10-12 08:33:29
It's like themes have been gone for ages?? There is much more out there than what RCP puts out you know.

rockhound2017-10-12 09:36:12
in this kind of movies, you haven't heard strong themes for many years. the last desaster movies with lots of strong themes were Armageddon and Deep Impact.

Iamtommie2017-10-12 11:41:43
Maybe not in dksaster movies, but if you are talking about BiG themes again in filmmusic.
If you listen to a few scores of Michael Giacchino, there are enoigh themes in there

I ment themes you can actually remember !!!

Iamtommie2017-10-12 17:00:11
Like?

MrZimmerFan2017-10-12 18:05:37
If we speaked of Giacchino, there is a plenty: John Carter's theme, Jyn Erso's theme, Krennic's theme, Vulture's theme, Tomorrowland Main Theme...

Even Speed Racer (one of my favorites)

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-12 19:01:50
Giacchino talk ?

You guys stop right there... lol

James2017-10-12 21:45:48
There are so many greats musical voices besides Zimmer, your pupils and Giacchino. This conversation turns out to be shamefull. Come on! Open yours minds and ears!

james2017-10-12 21:46:45
Shameful*

Kingfannypack2017-10-13 07:20:21
And if we are talking about Giacchino, the entire Jurassic World score- that is a great score that used alot of original themes. It had callbacks to John Williams' contribution but stood on its own very well- especially the suite!

Well it's available and it's really good ! I'm not fan of Lorne but this is an old-fashioned score as I love them. I want to see the movie now :)

Hybrid, random question.. do you think this music represents a trend of Hollywood wanting more thematic music once again rather than soundscapes? We had some good melodic scores this year like LEGO Batman, Wonder Woman, Pirates 5, TF5, etc.. and then this. And was just wondering if you think we can start expecting this to become the norm once again?

Waymann2017-10-09 08:52:19
I don't think they are a norm again. It just depends on what's best for the movie. It's not like composers think like hmm let's make a thematic score when the movie doesn't need one.

...2017-10-09 10:00:51
Composers in general probably find it more rewarding to write melodic thematic music, unless you're someone like Trent Raznor... but whatever is good for the film is the composer's job.

AP19802017-10-09 12:36:13
Finally some melodies !!!!! The tracks sound fantastic .

Waymann2017-10-09 14:11:13
I have to say this sounds like 52 minutes of epic fun. But nothing really sticks in the end. Read on twitter this is going to be released this friday digitally.

James2017-10-09 16:41:36
Nah!

1. This is a Bruckheimer movie, just like Potc5. Then it will sound like the old MV scores.
2. Transformers is a Bay movie, which makes it a twin movie to those produced by Brckheimer. Soon...

3. RGW has adopted the old MV sound as their "personal style" for years.

Conclusion: There is nothing new under the sun.

The music tracks so really great and strong melodies . Really loved Balfe's Ghost In the Shell but this beats it . Big epic themes -LOVE IT

Miklos2017-10-09 20:06:54
Classic

Seems like Lorne is posting about The Florida Project on Twitter recently and on IMDb it shows he's the composer. I watched the film in New York Film Festival and it doesn't have a score except at the end scene. So did Lorne write that part for the film? I didn't remember see his name during the end credits but I might miss it.

Thanks for the suite, Hybrid, I love it !

james2017-10-09 01:10:37
"The contender theme" aka "Thor theme" in 3:45!

Jake2017-10-09 02:28:17
I noticed that too. Clearly was temped with that, but he did a decent job at making it unique-ish

mpolonest123 reply Replies: 0 || 2017-10-08 19:20:00
This is really taking me back to that classic MV sound, albeit with better production. It's like a mix of Armageddon/Transformers with a tiny dash of Mark Mancina.

@ Hybrid: SOUNDS GREAT! Thanks for making a suite!! Loving it.

FaresTdkr reply Replies: 2 || 2017-10-08 16:54:40
Sorry but I can't feel it or honestly I hate it I mean the suite. for me the only melody that make me really shaking and full of adrenaline is "seglass Ni Tonday" by Steve jablonsky TF 5. Zimmer this year is inconvenience 😞 at all. May be the blue planet by him soundtrack will change my mind?!!!

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-08 16:58:28
What has HZ to do with this score... ?

rockhound2017-10-08 18:09:46
thanks for suite hybrid. the music sounds very entertaining and makes me want to see the movie. i love the theme that starts around 3:57. and the theme at the end of the suite sounds a bit like the ALL SPARK theme from Transformers. also great. cant wait for the score.

Bou reply Replies: 0 || 2017-10-08 18:02:28
F... me! sounds like an awesome old-school MV score with bunch of heroic motifs!
I dig it!

superultramegaa reply Replies: 0 || 2017-10-08 16:20:20
Well the suite alone is a lot more interesting to me than most Balfe scores, but it still has too many Zimmer vibes to me. It sounds like a combination of Gladiator and MCU scores with a very hard to identify melody.

thanks for the suite
Appreciate it
