The reprise of "Batman on Fire" from Begins (1:59-2:30 in the Transfiguration suite) is good stuff! I wonder why Hans decided to reuse that particular idea. When are we going to see you in Chicago?Indeed, this score reminds me — in a good way — of The Rock.Track 11, Onwards, here is my most favorite cue from the CoH franchise. It has that old school "power anthem" thing going on about it with full force. I truly wish this style is brought back to life again soon. Are there any more tour dates planned?
Lord of the Rings - Shore
Battlestar Galactica - McCreary

Both are up there as my two favorite collection of works. GOT doesn't even compare to BSG.

For solo albums, my candidates are:

Titanic
The Lion King
Interstellar
Memoirs of a Geisha
Jurassic Park

@superultramega
Honestly I feel like most of the issues with AUJ (and the other two hobbit films) were stemming from Peter Jackson editing the hell out of the music after the fact. It could be why they ended up dumping some themes in the following films.

Still, I don’t understand some of the criticism that the Hobbit trilogy scores received. DoS has some of the best action material imo, and the interpolations of Smaug’s theme(s) throughout the films are personally some of my favorite music from any LoTR project.

And this might be controversial, but I would put PoTC (the first three at least) on the level of Lord of the Rings in terms of the sheer amount of themes and development they receive. Maybe not quite as complex but they shouldn’t be overlooked. The Lion King and The Last Samurai are good choices, but I'm not as much of a fan as Zimmer's aesthetic or thematic work nearly as much as Howard Shore, or even Jablonskly at times. Game of Thrones I still can't comment on as I've never watched the show, or payed attention to Djawadi in general.

I would say Shore's heart wasn't in Desolation and Five Armies, but to say that about Unexpected Journey doesn't really feel right to me. Even themes like Gondor Restored and Nazgul's uses have some logic to them.

Gondor Restored was also used when the Ring is destroyed, meaning it also has a secondary meaning of victory against evil, (yes I know it affected Gondor too, but Gondor it isn't as direct). Which also applies in The Hobbit, as Bilbo saving Thorin was not only important for their relationship but also the future of Middle Earth as Thorin is vital to the battle against the orcs in Five Armies.

The Nazgul theme also makes sense as its first appearance is in Fellowship's opening, playing over Sauron's army of orcs, then Sauron himself. So it's linked both to Sauron himself and his servants, which includes Azog. Plus the version that plays in the film is the exact same variant (and lyrics) that plays in the Fellowship prologue. It serves almost as a precursor to the Nazgul. Plus I don't see why themes can't have several meanings anyway.

Plus I love most of the new themes of AUJ (before they were abandoned in later films). Not really a fair comparison, Hybrid, since videogames as a medium are much younger than films, and their scores weren't using real orchestras right until... mid 90's, would be my guess (feel free to correct me, guys).

The all time best film score for me would be a battle between The Last Samurai and Lion King. If "movie" includes TV shows, then it's Game of Thrones without a doubt, but I'm not gonna have this argument again ;)

Btw. I wouldn't mention Hobbit in the same sentence with LotR, even music-wise. A couple of great cues cannot hide the fact that Shore's heart wasn't in it.IS * lion king
Best film score of all time in lion king. Without any doubt. ;-)Can I just add, the album presentation for MW2 is really lame? It's a big, dare I say "epic" score in the 1990s Media Ventures mold. I think it's really solid. There are lots of different ideas from the first mission to the last, and a lot of them are written in the power anthem style that Hans ans co. don't really use much these days. Even Opening Titles is a throwback for Hans himself.

Unfortunately, almost none of the music as heard through the game is here. Instead, we got a bunch of shortened theme suites. :P

But the Gulag mission, the oil rig stuff, The Enemy of My Enemy, and lots of other missions all have pretty engaging and powerful music. I wish the RCP guys would do scores like this one more.Lord of the Rings (and even The Hobbit), are the only film scores that I'm buying an entire book for, just to fully understand the themes and motifs.Every time I revisit this score the first cue I automatically go back to is “This Isn’t Right”. Something about RGW’s string writing always stuck with me, even if he isn’t the most memorable when it comes to themes.

As for this score itself, I feel like it might have become a classic had it not been paired with such a shitty film. It’s funny, the score sounds less like Hans’ style to me and more like James Horner’s. Granted he only wrote one cue apparently...But the best film score of all time is Lord of the Rings... :>
Guys... Video Game music didn't start in 2008... lol

Your little game is actually impossible... It's pretty much like trying find "what is the best film score of all time"...I agree with Araujo and Knorr wholeheartedly. Cannot say the same for Soule; I always found his music lackluster and unfocused, sans the main theme of course. I'd like to mention my first runner-up, which is Destiny: Rise of Iron alongside Destiny 2. I was never a huge fan of the first two scores (original game + the first expansion), but the moment a guy named Rotem Moav got on Salvatori's team, the music became incredible (even though I have no evidence that those two events are related). Nevertheless, since it's stylistically so different from old-school and symphonic LAIR, I'd probably name it my No.1 alongside it.

If you guys are looking for recommendations, be sure to check these out:
The Witcher 3 (Marcin Przybyłowicz, Mikolai Stroinski, and a band called Percival), LotRO: Riders of Rohan (Chance Thomas), Assassin's Creed IV (Brian Tyler), Alone In The Dark (Olivier Deriviére), Eagle Flight (Inon Zur), Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius (Noriyasu Agematsu), Ni No Kuni I/II (Joe Hisaishi), and of course Medal of Honor and Gears of War IV by Ramin ;)Gonna have to chip in for Skyrim as well, although I'm biased because I used to put hundreds of hours into that game :p

Oscar Araujo's music for the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games is pretty good, as well as Geoff Knorr and his team's work on the last few Civ games.Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, Returns and Tropical Freeze. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is by far on top for me. It feels like the ultimate culmination of Jeremy Soule's work on the the series along with symphony-level quality for the town and exploration music.

Who did the arrangements of the pieces here? Was it Hans, or a bit of everyone?

Mike (OTM) reply Replies: 4 || 2017-11-04 17:56:33
This is the first official release of (part of) the Wayne Manor/Moody Bruce suite, isn't it?

Ds2017-11-07 20:31:03
Yes... except "officially" the TDK medley contains: Why So Serious? / Like A Dog Chasing Cars / Why Do We Fall / Introduce A Little Anarchy / The Fire Rises.
That's according to the booklet and the scene selection on the Blu-ray. And that's hilarious because selecting "Why Do We Fall" leads you right in the middle of the actual Like a Dog Chasing Cars, and "Introduce a Little Anarchy" leads you to the Moody Bruce segment.

They shouldn't have let the intern take care of the track list :-p

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-07 20:47:39
Not as laughable as POTC medley honestly...

They mixed up the Jack Sparrow suite with the film cue "Captain Jack Sparrow" and credited it to Hans & Trevor Morris... And credited the "One Day" as in the OST to Hans, Jackman, Gire & Sponsler while in fact, nothing from Gire/Sponsler is in that medley...

Who do they hire to do that ? Ask me ! I know my shit in cuesheet area ! lol

Michael Fields2017-11-08 05:44:10
But what about original suites for the third Pirates movie? I mean "New Love Suite" or "Marry Me" (written by Zimmer and Jackman). It's the same material, but slightly rearranged.

mittens2018-01-28 18:02:41
Yes, some really, really bad work on that part...

I saw it at the cinema and it was wonderful!
I regret having missed his concert in Paris.
Do you know if he will make a future concert in France?
I hope to meet him one day
Thank you!

I have to say, I like the presentation of the Electro Suite on here. I feel the original was perhaps too long and repetitive, and so to me it benefits from the shorter length.

Waymann reply Replies: 2 || 2017-11-07 22:53:04
I listened to the digital version last friday and I didn’t think much of it. I liked it but I wasn’t blow away by it and didn’t feel the urge to listen to it again over the weekend. But today I finally received the blu-ray and watched it in my home theater and holy damn... The Dolby Atmos track truly makes this an experience. It’s like you are in the arena and the sound quality is impeccable. Also this killer Dolby Atmos track accompanied with the footage of the concert truly brings this whole thing alive. I think the blu-ray is the best way to experience this concert (again). No cd or LP will do the same.

I didn’t see this concert live but a few years ago I saw Hans Zimmer and his team play the Inception Medley live on the WSA concert in Belgium which was already an experience on it’s own. This concernt is the closed to what I experienced back then.

Marts2017-11-08 00:05:57
Yeah, you have to watch it and feel it. Listening to the digital CD does not do it justice. The audio/visual quality is awesome.

Mephariel2017-11-08 01:40:21
I listen to all the tracks on MP3 multiple times but I agree with you that the quality is pretty disappointing. I thought a lot of the recordings were too soft. The show is amazing with the visuals.

Frank reply Replies: 7 || 2017-11-04 07:27:27
I got some questions after reading the booklet.
1. Why does James Newton Howard get credit for The Dark Knight music? I thought those pieces were composed by Zimmer alone.
2. Why does Ryan Rubin and Alex Gibson, two music editors, get credits for Interstellar?

Brent2017-11-04 08:20:00
James gets a credit because he co-wrote (almost) all the major themes of TDK trilogy. The only piece Hans truly wrote himself (at least to my knowledge) is the Joker’s theme. TDKR was the only film in the franchise to not have James a part of it (although his themes remain).

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-04 10:10:40
No, it's because technically JNH is credited on every single cue of BB & TDK. But the suite is HZ's music.

And on some projects Hans gives cuesheet credits for Music Editors, especially Nolan films (they will get something like 2% of each cue), so they are the ones appearing in Interstellar cuesheet.

MuroFilm2017-11-04 19:30:03
Why isn’t Balfe credited ?

Mike (OTM)2017-11-04 19:38:27
He didn't do any of the music here, as far as I know.

Marts2017-11-04 11:58:37
Well, they didn't know Lisa would perform really. She only did originally in NZ and AUS in 2017, this was a long time before that. Maybe they didn't even know they would tour in 2017, it's fantastic we got this show, if we got Lisa it would have been another year before it came out.

I like all the tracks, but there are a few that are my highlights!
- chevaliers de sangreal (just simply beautiful)
- The lion king (childhood memories)
- you’re so cool (love the theme)
- journey to the line (small, but powerfull with a dash of epicness)
- electro suite (i like the agression)
- interstellar (altough i’m not very fond of the soundtrack)
-inception (time is my #1 track, what aan amazing piece of music)

I’m curious what your favorites are....

Marts2017-11-04 11:56:33
I have to say Pirates medley is my favourite, it's just epic and the violins are beautiful.

I like it all though. Personally Interstellar is my favourite soundtrack ever but it's a bit harder to do justice to it here without the huge organs. Lion King also, Lebo has such charisma and fills the whole place with energy!

Hybrid, will a deluxe edition for this album be released? I remember reading somewhere on a website that there would be, and I'm not sure whether to buy the standard version now, or wait for a month or two for the deluxe version.

 Your name :

Please enter number: 1595

Laurens2017-11-04 09:25:18
In the original statement they announced a deluxe edition but when pre-orders came about, they posted an additionel statement saying that they had mistakenly announced the deluxe edition. So I’d think it won’t happen but of course you can never be 100% sure.

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-04 10:08:44
No Deluxe.

Can anyone tell me why the Prague concert was decided to be the one the footage was shot at? Is it something to do with the whole orchestra? I some versions of Hans's ealrier work I see reference to "The City of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra", does Hans have close ties with this orchestra and choir or is it just coinsedence?

Listened to it a few times this week. I enjoyed it but the mix seems a bit of a mix bag for me. The orchestra seems too recessed and percussion in some tracks are over pronounced but it’s still and enjoyable listen. It might be different on the blu ray

Amazon.uk main description says that Blu ray is region A only. In detailed description you can find it is All regions. But All regions is usually used for DVD format. Does anybody know what is right? Region A only or Region free(all regions)?

Ds2017-10-29 10:00:11
Yeah, I think something weird is going on. On Amazon.fr, they sell the CD and DVD but not the Bluray anymore.
I ordered mine in a shop, I hope there won't be any issue.

Saw it now 3 times. In Mannheim, Frankfurt and toady at the Cinema. Really a fantastic show. Even in the Cinema it works really well. Thanks to Hans and the wonderful musicians for this great experience

dannyXXL2017-10-02 14:14:56
what was your favorite concert? mannheim, frankfurt or at the cinema?

Julian2017-10-03 02:18:13
My favourite was in Mannheim. The Mixing of the Sound in a Football Stadium, like it was in Frankfurt, is really hard. Sometimes you didn't recognize the Melody and the Mixing was bad. So i talked to other People there, if they had the same perception like me. And there were some people, who said, that they had the same feeling about the Sound. Later on, towards the second half of the concert, the Sound was good. But they needed some time to find the right mix for the location. So it wasn't a bad Concert and you also had the Highlihts with Trevor Horn and Lisa Gerrard but for the Mixing i prefer the Mannheim Concert in 2016. So for the Cinema. It's filmed in a classical Way. You don't have the experimental Concertfilm like Rammstein's Live in Paris Concert (you really have to see it) The Footage was very good. You get another point of view, another angles of the Stage and it was really interessting to see the people performing and how they react to each other. And also the Mixing of the Sound was really good. You noticed every Instrument in the right moment, really good job by the Producers. Overall i can say you should get the DVD or Blu Ray. It's a good Thing, if you missed the Live Show. But to be part of the Crowd in front of the Stage will always be the best way to experience Hans Music. And everytime i watched the show, i wanted to join the Band on the Stage and having a little Jam Session, even in the Cinema :D. So fucking great musicians and great Music.

Fizzbin2017-10-02 19:32:46
It´s sad, that a lot of sources in the web are talking about, that the recording was made in June 2017. That was so wrong! And sad that Thelma & Louise was missing. But of course its a great show too. [And the best: I filmed for me the complete show at Frankfurt; with Trevor Horn,....and Lisa Gerrard] :)
