Is Clint Mansell not credited for this score as well?

From what I can tell, Lorne replaced his work in the movie, which would explain why he said nothing about the film or score when the whole petition was happening.

Lorne did use some of his material though, the 2 note thing on strings in Confined is Mansell material.

Balfe released most of the score under his name. There seems to be only a couple of cues according to ASCAP that are not Balfe .

I want to say that test screening version of Ghost in the Shell deleted one geisha character who was under orders of Cutter to follow the Major and in the original third act, she fought Aramaki when he stormed into Cutter's Holo room after killing his guards. Aramaki survives and the scene continues as shown. Because of the poor reception of what I call "The Philosophical Cut", the geisha character was removed and there were quick reshoots of all of the conversations between Cutter and Aramaki minus the geisha character involvement.
As a Zimmer fan, I'm somewhat disappointed that he hasn't done much this year. However, Balfe's latest works has made up for the lack of Zimmer, especially MI6. Now after just recently listening to Ghost in the Shell (which I realize is just amazing!), I've started to think that Balfe is an underrated composer. He's amazing at what he does and He's starting to create more unique scores. Hopefully MI6 will give him more recognition as a score composer.
I'm hearing a lot from the "Elysium" score from Ryan Amon in Ghost in the Shell...

The ultimate one for me is Tron Legacy by Daft Punk, which is still in my top 5 of this decade and pretty much the perfect orchestra/electronic hybrid score IMO. It's a modern classic. I think a lot of the scores mentioned, especially Oblivion, directly trace their lineage to Tron Legacy.

Wherefrom do we get the missing tracks like Logos or End Credits? Those aren't with the other tracks leaked by Lorne via facebook/twitter, or did I do something wrong?

Logos and End Credits were ripped by people from the movie video. They're not released.

There's a way to do it but I won't tell you for fear that I get HULK SMASHED by Hybrid. Besides, the file is in 112 kbps, it's barely worth the trouble (and I'm not even much of an audiophile).

Yep, I noticed. And in mp3 I guess YT is still the better way
Now here's a Lorne Balfe score that I can get behind. Interesting aesthetic, fun electronics, grand orchestra cues, and interesting combinations of the two. Not sure if I'd say Oscar worthy, but definitely more unique to me than his other work.
Does anyone know how many tracks Lorne will release?

I got a 15 second sample of Major Motoko.. epic electronic track that didn't get used in the final cut of the movie. Hopefully Lorne Balfe will release it on a GITS Friday in a week or two!
Cool... this stuff about drones is very interesting because there are no significant drones that I can remember in the movie. This is yet another reason we need a director's cut or deleted scenes...
Hybrid, is it okay if I share the cue sheet on our blog post about potential deleted scenes?

I can't find the track 'Reborn' on Lorne Balfe's YT channel. Has he uploaded it? Or will that be his final release?
If someone is wondering how I organize the album as it arrives, it's neither random nor fully chronological, but the way Lorne built it. It's mostly chronological though... lol

Could you please atleast tell us what would be the chronological order?
This is off topic since there isn't one for it yet, but have you heard if Lorne and/or Hans are back to Call of Duty for World War 2? I understand if you cant confirm it.

After all that praise i was dissappointed about the music when i just recently watched the movie. Never really noticed the music, no theme... nothing. If someone compares that to Tron Legacy then the Tron score was way better than this (they seem to be similiar so i think its ok to use Tron for comparison). Is it praised because its unreleased ?
mpolonest123
2017-09-08 20:16:25
@fs I honestly feel the same. Outside of the shelling sequence and finale cues I honestly can't remember anything themewise. The electronic music is well done (especially in context) but just like the film it was pretty forgettable to me.

Balfe's score was fantastic . Just because it didn't have big melodies all over it doesn't matter . The film was ok but Balfe's score was unique.

Effective in the context and out ò f it, but not unique.

It is not bad but just nothing special or fantastic. After reading many comments here (Balfes best work etc) i really cared for the music while watching it. But i dont see/hear any "idea" behind that score. It is solid of course and supports the movie. It is the same like Balfes Terminator score, it works but nothing to rememeber outside from the movie.

I suspect that the music from the Clint Mansell sessions that ended up getting used in the soundtrack is too intertwined with the final score to separate the cues between the two composers' teams. Check out "The Leap" from Kevin Kiner (it's on his website and also on Youtube), a version of that is in the final score.
In other words, I don't think there are easily separable "Clint Mansell cues" and "Lorne Balfe cues". There is just one final score.

Also (to answer the question at the start of this thread) the cover art uses a portion of an unofficial poster by Ruiz Burgos
It's up to Clint and I don't think he's inclined to release his score at present because Clint was pretty sore that some of his music was replaced. (Right information. I'm so sorry.)

Hybrid Soldier, please stop dropping "lol" every time you post here. I don't know how old are you, but not everything is 'lol' in this world. Thank you.

I drop whatever I want, if my way of writing or my sarcastic cynical humor bothers you, then too bad for you, "old student".
I think I'm making enough promotion for free for composers around here and respect all guys I'm in touch with. Although, yes, no one found the cure to cancer here, it's film music, it's not a big deal "in this world", people get fired all the time, I will not act like it's a matter of life & death and cry for it. "lol" ;)

James, it sort of is.
I mean Hans trusts us so we sort of have carte blanche (and if Remote isn't happy with something, they just tell me), but technically they don't own nor participate in it and I could ignore whatever they would want me to remove (which of course I don't, it's in the interest of... nobody) !

Guys I would ask that nobody make confident proclamations about what Clint Mansell is thinking if you don't have genuine information. As the person who started the petition the only information I can confirm is that there are contractual issues related to the fact that both composers were involved. But I got this confirmed info only a couple days ago after 4 months of all of us trying to figure out what's going on. I'm not against speculation but let's not pass off speculation as authoritative statements. Thanks!
