So first impressions:<br><br>JP knocked this one out of the park! The whole score has this excellent swashbuckling vibe, which is surprisingly aggressive during the action sequences (entirely due to his trademark percussion).<br><br>The writing style is really interesting, it’s basically John Powell doing his usual style but with some Williams flourishes, especially during the softer cues. The Star Wars themes do return, but not as heavily as Rogue One. And of course the JW cue is great, although surprisingly structured more as an action cue as opposed to a concert suite.<br><br>And for some reason the Han theme sounds vaguely similar to Poe’s theme from Force Awakens.Let’s just say “Reminiscience Therapy”.... hold onto your seats! ;-)This score is awesome!! Powell did a great job at making a score that's differet than all the other SW scores, but still you know it's a SW score. He reprised Williams' theme brilliantly and I can't stop to listen to it!!!what about the music when batman makes it back to the cave and lex opens the case of kryptonite. cant find it in theseYeah I can't agree that Inception or Interstellar are superior pieces of scoring. Certainly not in structure, thematic development, etc. <br><br>What defined those scores is the vision behind them more so than the execution. In so many ways, that is opposite of The World's End. Interstellar is a brilliant score that managed to provide each scene with a simplistic tone, but one that captured the atmosphere behind the scenes perfectly, such as the unique use of the organ. Same with Inception with the guitars. <br><br>With a World's End, the vision is nothing special. It is a rock and roll twist to classic music. But the execution brings enormous power and gravitas to the movie.<br><br>I would sum it up by saying that in Interstellar and Inception, the creation of the music drives the movie's ideas while in At World's End, the movie drives the creation of the music.
Nazg&#251;l for Azog I will never forgive. It's not a Servant of Sauron theme, it's a Ringwraith theme, and Azog's not a Ringwraith, he's a goddam Orc, and that theme doesn't belong there, full stop. It was just put there because it sounds "epic" and would "pump up the action scene". Gondor Restored at the end is just as stupid. And the Dreaming of Bag End theme for Bilbo is indeed lovely, and would have been lovelier still if it actually appeared in the movie. Instead it just gets replaced by copy/pasted Hobbit music from LOTR instead because Peter Jackson desperately wants his audience to remember how good those movies were in lieu of the Hobbit ones being any good on their own. Needless to say it goes missing entirely from the second and third score...along with the Misty Mountains melody (the strongest theme of the first one). I still really like those scores overall but they got absolutely butchered in terms of their thematic usage in the films. Then again those movies were an absolute clusterfuck so I shouldn't be surprised.<br><br>WRT Harry Potter, the 3 note theme does work okay for Voldemort, except that there's already a longer, separate Voldemort theme in Philosopher's, one that I like even more, and which only gets used once in Chamber (when Riddle rearranges the letters). I can understand liking Chamber better than Philosopher when you compare the albums, but in terms of the complete scores there's no contest at all, Philosopher wins by a country mile because of Chamber's rehash issues (and there are some good cues missing from the album, such as the Troll and Forbidden Forest scenes).@Edmund<br>The thing with the Nolan scores (at least Interstellar/Inception) is that they are repetitive, in as much as being built heavily around the suites that I’m guessing they use to edit and temp the film. <br>And while the themes are simple I do think they are structured in a unique enough way which builds emotional resonance through the gradual increase in chords/volume/speed/etc. Even Dunkirk is a relatively simple score theme wise, but is so technically complex.<br><br>And personally I’ve never been in love with Inception. I admire it on a technical level, but outside of “Time” I find it to be a fairly cold score. Obviously what it was meant to do so not a complaint, more of a personal preference thing. You know, I actually like Chamber of Secrets much more than Philosopher's Stone. It has the best moments from that score with improved themes. (I actually like the 3 note motif for Voldemort better than it being used for the stone, it already sounded like the Sith theme from Star Wars so might as well go all the way with it.) It felt more tight, better paced, and had an overall more energetic feel to it.<br><br>The Hobbit, I'm not entirely sure where you're getting heartbreaking from. If you mean the state of its release I absolutely agree, if you're talking about its reprisals the only one I had any issue with was the Return of the King/Gondor Restored theme which had nothing to do with Thorin and Bilbo's relationship. <br><br>The Nazghul theme being used for Azog I thought was fine as he was a servant of Sauron in the movies, History of the Ring and Gollum's themes were used effectively, and the new thematic material for the first film, I thought was wonderful. The themes A Baggins of Bag-End and The Lonely Mountain song being used as a Fellowship type of theme are the greatest highlights for me.See, I don't find Inception or Interstellar (or Thin Red Line) all that "complex". Especially not compared to At World's End (how many themes are in that score, like 15? 20? Pretty much all of which show up in rapid succession during the Maelstrom battle?). The Nolan scores are more about building up around very simple conceptual ideas.<br><br>Unless you're talking about emotional complexity, which is a very different thing and not really possible to objectively judge...You know, I don't think I've ever really gotten the full story surrounding that score. I've heard conflicting reports. My personal belief is that Ross did little to no substantial composition and that all the new stuff (themes, suites, new cues and also significantly fresh arrangements of old material) is pure Williams, but that film is full of reused music from the first film (it's actually quite frustrating, not as bad as On Stranger Tides or as heartbreaking as The Hobbit, but a bit of a rehashy mess and it makes the key error of using the Philosopher's Stone motif as a Voldemort theme). That's where I think Ross comes in and was responsible for taking those cues verbatim from the first film and tweaking/rearranging them just enough to match the timings of the scenes without actually adding any of his "own" notes. His role is likely somewhere between additional music, arrangement and music editing (but as Hybrid likes to point out, oftentimes those sorts of roles are really blurred and overlapping anyways).<br><br>A guy at jwfan did an analysis that helps understand the nature of that score, but be warned, it goes *really* deep:<br><br>www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27619-finished-chamber -of-secrets-thematic-and-originality-analysis/
I'm trying to be objective* (sorry haha)@Anonymous Zimmer's best? Well... I'm trying to be subjective:<br>IMO The Thin Red Line remains the pinnacle of Hans' career from an artistic point of view. It's a turning point, though we've been used to this kind of writing since (so many scores have copied TTRL).<br><br>Inception and (especially) Interstellar are superior pieces of scoring as well. Their level of complexity is unmatched in Zimmer's discography.<br>Gladiator is another impressive score, as it combines some of the best action music, best drama and deepest emotions Hans has ever composed for a movie.<br><br>Seems like I'm quite objective here, as none of my favorites scores are on this list ! ;)Interesting you mention William Ross' role in Chamber of Secrets because I've never fully understood what his exact involvement was. Was he just an additional music composer? Or did he actually compose most of the score with John Williams only writing the suites? Just curious if you know.I mean, the thematic situation *is* a bit messy. You've got new themes by Powell, one new Williams theme adapted by Powell, and then existing Star Wars themes adapted by Powell. I agree the credits are a bit long-winded but I can't think of a more concise way to convey all that information.<br><br>What does bother me (and maybe this is my inner fanboy talking) is that it seems to downplay Powell's role a bit, listing him second and with the use of the word "adapted" which makes him feel a bit second fiddle. Remember how William Ross "adapted" Williams' music for Chamber of Secrets, by which was meant largely copying and pasting bits from Sorcerer's Stone? I have no doubt that Powell has done a far, far more substantial job here (and they do say "composed and adapted", to be fair). Then again, it's a Star Wars score, and of course they're going to put Williams' name front and center as much as possible no matter what.<br><br>This is all such nitpicking of the highest order :pHans for Star Wars ?<br><br><br>Never.<br><br><br>Ron probably asked him first and Hans probably was like "JOHN POWELL !!"
What would have happened if Ron Howard would have been the first choice to direct Solo? He would have chosen James Horner (if he wasn't dead) or try to convince Hans Zimmer to do the music. The only collaboration between Howard and maestro Williams was in the movie Far And Away.Poster in SpainA Star Wars score that sounds like a Powell score? I'm in.<br><br>From what I've heard of many people, the score is really great and apart from the Williams theme, I heard Powell also had a lot of great themes.<br><br>I cannot wait for it!Your source?Just saw the film, really fun and faced paced movie. The score is great, it has a solid main theme by John Williams (not as great as Rey theme though) but still memorable and john powell adapts this main theme in various variations throughout the film. Star Wars fan might be dissapointed by the score because this overall sounds like a typical Powell score which doesn’t really sound like a typical Star Wars movie. Still fans of Powell will love this new score.

HANS ZIMMER LIVE 2017

Tickets & Info at HansZimmerLive.com

THE MAN

Hans Zimmer’s interest in music began early when he moved to the UK and met established film composer Stanley Myers where they collaborated on films such as My Beautiful Laundrette. In 1988, Hans’ solo work for Rain Man earned him his first Academy Award Nomination for Best Original Score.

From this point Hans has scored more than 120 films which have, combined, grossed over 24 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. He has been honored with an Academy Award®, two Golden Globes®, three Grammys®, an American Music Award and a Tony® Award. His most recent Academy Award nomination for Interstellar marks his 10th career Oscar nomination. In 2003, ASCAP presented him with the prestigious Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement for his impressive and influential body of work. He also received his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. In 2014, Hans was honored with the Zurich Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.

THE SHOW

The 2017 tour comes back by popular demand from the 2016 shows across Europe. The sell out shows were rapturously received by critics and the public alike. Incredibly in a Hollywood career that has spanned decades, these were Hans’s first full shows and were made even more special by the appearance of two of Zimmer’s collaborators guitarist Johnny Marr and Pharrell Williams.

Like the Hammersmith shows, ‘Hans Zimmer Live On Tour’ will be a visual spectacular designed and lit by the world-renowned lighting designer Marc Brickman. Marc has worked with everyone from Pink Floyd to Nine Inch Nails to Barbra Streisand and is responsible for the lighting of the Empire State Building in New York. The Hans Zimmer show will not only sound unlike any other it will also look unlike any other

Hi all,

Different media are reporting a new concert or new concerts, does anyone have any further info on that?

Dfault2018-04-09 12:47:12
Seems that they are reporting it wrong and its the 'World of Hans Zimmer' tour (without him)

Mephariel2018-04-09 19:18:10
Hi Hybrid,

Do you have a confirm list of performances for "The World of Hans Zimmer" concert?

From what I read, the only confirm film score performances are The Last Samurai, Pearl Harbor, The Lion King, Gladiator, and Inception.

Mephariel2018-04-09 19:42:15
Oh, and also confirmed:

The Da Vinci Code and Kung Fu Panda.

I am glad they not neglecting Hans' less mainstream scores.

Scorefan reply Replies: 2 || 2018-02-26 20:17:30
@Hybrid, is it true the concert in Prague 2017 will be on Netflix?

Patrick2018-03-08 10:20:13
It is! Tina Guo confirmed on her FB account some minutes ago! :-)

Having already bought the blu-ray, I'm hoping to see professional quality footage from later in the tour, when the vuiuals had been upgraded considerably

Mephariel reply Replies: 0 || 2017-12-25 02:55:00
For those of you who prefer to see a more traditional performance of Zimmer's scores, please check out:

“The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration”

"In addition to visually striking projections of film sequences, a symphony orchestra under the direction of Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack conductor Gavin Greenaway creates an intense and unforgettable concert experience which – in contrast to “Hans Zimmer Live” – celebrates Zimmer’s compositions for large orchestra."

Starts April 2018

I just came home from watching this concert on the one day theatrical release (Dolby Atmos of course) in Sweden, and was quite disappointed the Wonder Woman theme wasn't included. First I thought it had been edited out, but then found out that this was filmed spring 2016 and the song "Is she with you" from BvsDoJ wasn't included in the setlist back then.

On the 2017 setlists the song is following the Man of Steel suite.

I could have sworn they also did Thunderbird from Thelma & Louise when I watched this concert live in Stockholm in May, but it's not noted in the Swedish setlist so maybe I'm dreaming.

Anyway it's still a great concert and I enjoyed it a lot!

Ds2017-10-23 23:21:23
They played Thelma & Louise in the 2017 tour (and the very last date of the 2016 tour). So you were not dreaming :-p

Geoffrey2017-10-24 20:46:10
In Belgium, 2016, they did play Thunderbird.

Ds2017-10-24 20:53:28
@Geoffrey: in 2016 in Brussels Palais 12 they didnt play it. In 2017 in Antwerp Sportpaleis, they did.

DFault2017-10-26 13:26:40
@DS, confirmed, it was a 2016 coverage, so wonderwoman wasn't included back then. I went to both 2016 and 2017 concerts. In Oberhause they didnt play Rain Man in 2016 also (replaced by Purple Rain), I guess they just make minor changes to whatever feels right. This makes it I think even more unique then a standard mass production straight forward cocnert. I think you see that also postively in the joy the musicans are having :).

Meze2017-11-02 00:16:41
Thats why we have to keep pushing (i do wherever i can) that they release the Frankfurt ‘17 version, they have it recorded not by a film company just normal close-ups. That would be Nice Because Lisa gerrard was there. If we keep wining about it eventually they have too give it free, Because there are so many dvd’s etc from other concerts over and over again. I think hzl. Management for multimedia is a quite worse. They have to look like someone like Joe bonamassa multimedia crew, like every event has a release. And on time!! Hz. Dvd/blu-ray Release was Ofc already finished last year. Has taken too long for release. And only 1release from 2 years is a bit. Poor imho! False info was geven that there was a deluxe version, they have too step up there game. Because ppl want it!

Geoffrey reply Replies: 5 || 2017-10-24 20:44:46
Wow, in this interview (in french) french director Bertrand Tavernier is very violent about Zimmer's music and even the fact he makes concerts !

Ds2017-10-24 21:13:20
He sounds like a very frustrated person, and also inconsistent. How can one say that all Zimmer scores are shit, except Thin Red Line and DUNKIRK? And how can the same person praise Marco Beltrami as an example of talented composer? Sounds like the typical clueless person who knows HZ mostly through Nolan movies and is willing to bash him only because Hans is the biggest name in Hollywood (and I guess that is frustrating when you spend your life making french movies no one will see).

Mephariel2017-10-25 01:53:59
LOL. Marco Beltrami is the worst composer to consistently get big projects. He isn't even Harry Gregson-Williams level, let alone Zimmer level.

Kusi2017-10-25 16:37:18
Marco Beltrami is a good composer and doesn't deserve this meaning I think. I really love his horror scores also I, Robot is great. No composer should have to be compared to other composers I think - they have their own styles and of course their favorite playground

Edmund Meinerts2017-10-25 17:29:32
Yeah, not sure where all this Beltrami hate is coming from. He's not a very consistent composer but when he's good, he's really good.

Waymann2017-10-26 08:45:55
I also liked Beltrali his work for The Snowman. Great score.

There has been lots of talk about the band, but who are the amazing guys, who played in the orchestra? I couldn't even count them, because they were barely visible. Unfortunately the horns were also barely audible, but I guess this was due to Hans being more interested in writing for strings than for horns.

How many orchestra players were there in total? What instruments did they play exactly? And were they a steady crew or were they hired locally?

Meze2017-10-05 21:10:19
You could read All of your questions If you bought a program at the concert > all the information is in it! It’s mostly local orchestra’s and choirs. 14 different orchestra’s + choirs in Total in the whole world! Buy a program. Lol

Yes, but its only the show from 2016.... they have more recorded material from 2017, they should release that as well. Just Like andr&#279; riool has hundreds of outdated dvd's. Lot of ppl like that.....

UHD Blu-Ray seems to be possible:

The spectacle was captured using the highest quality Dolby technology and is available in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound mix (2K and 5.1 surrounds sound formats also available).

As an added bonus for cinemas, a 10min interview was shot with Hans giving the viewer an insight into the man behind the score of many of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

Hello!
Happy and a bit upset by the Arena in Nimes (France).
Good sound, but i expected a special energy in this mystic place, surly i expected too much!!
I thought also that maybe Hans was bored to play and play again the same tracks?! Big challenge to be involved every night for someone creative!!
However...Huge Satnam (my master!!), specials emotions with Czarina, Pedro, Guthrie, Mary, and all the percussionists, the choir,... Tina...Nile...
NB : I miss Ann Marie!
Bye Bye

Was at the Frankfurt show and don't know if there are words to say how awesome it was.

First, what's better than having a concert featuring an extended band, an orchestra and a choir? Only if it's Hans Zimmer leading the concert playing his music. So could it get any better than this? Yes, it actually could, namely this taking place in Hans' homestate Hessen (in Germany), which happens to be my homestate, too. It was so much fun listening to him talking to us "friends" in German and seeing him wearing an Eintracht Frankfurt shirt troughout the first set. But it still got even one more step better with having so many special guests performing this night: Romani Band Kokavakere Lavutára - Sendreiovci (who worked with Hans on "A Game of Shadows") doing the opening, Lisa Gerrard performing "Gladiator" and the premiere of Trevor Horn performing "Video killed the radio star" with Hans live, on which Trevor did a special rap part in German! I hope some of these things end up on the official DVD release. Also Hans' daugher Zoe happened to be in the audience that night.

I personally wish to thank all the amazing musicians, who all played so beautifully and the crew, who made this happen.

Now I'm listening to the pieces they played on and on, liking them more each time.

Of course, my personal highlight was listening to the great Lebo M doing the "Lion King" music.
QUESTION: The "Lea Halalela" part which was sung by his daughter Refi, wasn't this just an instrumental piece in the original film? I could only find renditions from the musical, where it has vocals on it, but on all releases of the film's soundtrack it hasn't. Or did I miss something? Hope you can help me out.

Thanks again,
Andi

PS: @Satnam Rangotra "Haben Sie einen Termin?" ;-)

Alexander 2017-06-23 14:15:03
Du hast absolut recht ! Aber sind dir Kameras aufgefallen ? Mir nicht obwohl ich natürlich auch hoffe dass das ganze einen Teil der DVD/Blu ray einnehmen wird.

Pit2017-06-24 22:32:04
Lea Halalela on CD “RHYTHM of the PRIDE LANDS“ from 1995;...
Frankfurt show was amazing, Leipzig too

Andi2017-06-30 00:44:49

@Pit: Thanks! So maybe lyrics were intended but never used in the final film.

Alexander2017-06-30 00:51:11

Short bits from the zurich concert:

--> the e-guitar mixed with percussion is too loud. During the Dark Knight and Crimson Tide you could barely hear the melody lines played by the strings which is my biggest complain (the only one actually)
--> choir is amazing and can luckily beat the loud drums.
--> music selection is good and most of the time nice medleys
--> live singer are a lot better (on the stage !) than i expected. Especially the lion king and gladiator pieces are well done with the voices.
--> surprisingly long concert with over 3 hours (including 20 minutes break)
--> First half of the concert is perfect ! Good mix of classic and modern pieces/styles. Second half is a bit too much with spiderman, inception, interstellar, man of steel as they are all very percussion heavy. At that point you may get tired of it. Still i was impressed until the last minute and most people in the crowd too i guess.
--> hans said zurich is his 38th show on the tour and he showed no lack of energy. He was quite entertaining during his talk bits.

I hope in some years he will do another tour with some new pieces :)

Is there any chance to Brazilian fans to see Zimmer's concert in Brazil ???? :)

Cyberpunk88 reply Replies: 0 || 2017-06-25 19:42:40
Thank god they did an additional intro in the Interstellar section with heavy organ, just like in the movie. I kind of missed this the previous year, and brought me right back to when I saw Interstellar Live in London.. And with the addition of the Wonder Woman theme, this was the best show ever. Hope he does another tour somewhere in the near future!

I was at the concert in Frankfurt and you really felt that this was THE BIGGEST Film-music concert ever !!! The scale was amazing ! The crew was very open to the audience and you felt that they had fun too. I had a chat with Satnam (The drummer) during the break and got a nice photo with nile marr, son of johnny marr, and you really felt that they have as much fun as the audience. I hope that a DVD/Blu-ray will come soon ! But everyone here should go to one of hans's concerts. I was on three now and it feels like chilling with friends because the entire band is so open and it doesn't feel like they are untouchable gods of music ! Best experience you can get as a fan !!!

How did you manage to have a chat with Satnam?

He definately is one of the best drummers out there, never seen such a talented live playing drummer before.

All of his crew were amazing.

Alexander2017-06-12 19:21:09
It was kinda funny. In the Break some Crew guy was checking somethin on the drums and a few minutes later ( I guess there was a Little problem ) satnam came out and checked something by hisself. To my big surprise Nobody Said something. I wrote with him once After a concert and I sended him a Message "up tomorrow" but it was Short before the concert so he didn't wrote back. I just told him that I am still waiting for a reply. But also Nile marr was very opened. Yea they are all very talented and i Hope there will be backstage Passes one day for Hans Zimmer :)

Jasmine2017-06-22 18:57:36
How long is the concert?

Alexander2017-06-23 00:33:48
It's quite Long ! :) he started at 20:15/08:15pm and they finished Inception at 23:30/11:30pm so You get a 3 Hours Event but I have to say that there is a 20mimutes Long Break but it's still a very Great Time compared to other concerts and it feels very Short !

Does anyone here have some informations about a DVD/Blu-ray release date ? The trailer for the 2017 Tour was very good and in a very high quality when it comes to picture and sound. They can't keep it just for a twitter or YouTube post !

Kristoff2017-06-14 22:04:38
I asked Eagle Rock Films and they replied it should be released by the end of this year. I hope it will finally happen!

I was at the show in Frankfurt and it was A+mazing! It really makes all the difference to hear Lisa Gerrard sing Gladiator live - her voice is even more amazing live. She also joined the others for Aurora, which was short yet incredible.
I also loved that Hans was talking so much and all in German haha. Good to know he remembers.

But can I just say: Some people are such idiots. I was seated next to the most stupid couple ever. First of all, they went to the loo in the middle of Journey to the Line. I'd rather wet myself than miss that one, hellooooo??!!!

Even worse - they left the show when Stay way playing.... why would you get up during Stay, and miss the whole Inception suite on top of it??!! My only guess is that they believed the programme in which the setlist ends after Interstellar, and I guess they wanted to be the first in the car park and avoid traffic. Imagine missing Stay Inception because of traffic considerations.

Back to the positive things: They also did Video Killed the Radio Star with the old band, which is not my kind of music, but was really fun. And I loved that Hans' daughter Zoe was there, too! :)

I was at the concert in Forum in Copenhagen, it was a spectacular experience. Normally the sound is therrible there, last experienced with Ennio Morricone, that concert was destroyed by bad sound, but with your concert it worked out to perfection as the sound was turned up loud and took the roof of LOL... my question is, is there a DVD or CD with the set, some of the tunes were fantastic with the small and big modifications, and cant be found in superb quality anywhere...

Bill Koufo2017-05-26 19:50:12
A CD/DVD release was planned for earlier this year, but it was cancelled possibly because of the new tour. I suppose that when this tour is over we 're gonna have news on the release. In the meantime you can check the video recordings from Coachella, the quality is quite good.

would be good if any information could be given on this, anytime recently have asked the social channels, get no answer what so ever, just ignored.

i was told in an email a year ago regarding the audio recording
'We're currently waiting to the final release date from our team in the US, which we're hoping will be soon. They're working really hard to get it finished for everyone as soon as they can, as we can't wait to share it with all the fans across the globe. As soon as we have further information or a release date we'll be posting about it on our social channels'

Obliviously not working that hard and they can wait to share it with fans lol

*Obviously (thanks autocorrect)

I work in a cinema and one of the distributors who deals with theatre and concert films sent us a plan of their 2017 premieres. One of them is "Hans Zimmer Live in Prague"

Probably this is the concert they will also release on DVD/BRD?
I wonder if this was recorded this year or last year.
