A mix of ideas from Da Vinci code, Angels and Demons with some synthesized sounds from Chappie, Man of steel and more...
The result is a little bit messy and disappointed (because we are always waiting for new themes which is of course more refreshing ;)) but the score seems to be more adapted to an action movie and in that sense is very pleasant :). Let's see it!

I had no expectations, but this song '2016 Inferno Suite' I really like.
I do not know the other tracks and I have not seen the movie, but this is very intense ... expressive.
good job.

To those of you who've seen the movie, is the end credits exactly the same as track 16 or is it an alternate and more?

David2016-10-16 13:53:41
It's not exactly the same track. What I heard at the cinema was track 16 but without around the fist minute of the track...a version of Chevaliers de Sangreal.

Rodhamine123 reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-16 13:43:19
After listening to the full album for 4 times, i must say that the album is far too long. 40-50 minutes would be just perfect, also there's not to much new material just the Elizabeth theme(being just a few notes) and the synth motif heard in Cerca Trova. Not a complete letdown as I feared but could have been much better.

Wow, your suite sounds amazing! Great teaser for the movie and score! Well done, Hybrid Soldier!

Ahmad2016-10-13 12:30:21
Absolutely amazing!
It's like: DVC + A&D + MOS + BVS + Inception = Inferno!
It has everything I love. Brass, strings, ostinatos (strings & synths), and crazy synthesizers!

I wish I could go and see the movie specially in IMAX! I'd see it in IMAX just to hear Zimmer's score nice and loud!

Bro2016-10-13 13:34:58
I'm all in on this one, good stuff.

Edmund Meinerts2016-10-13 13:59:37
It actually doesn't sound too bad to me. Sure, I'd have preferred a balance a bit more heavy on the choir and a little less on the synths, and it seems to lack the mystique and intrigue of the prior two scores, but sounds like there will be some decent stuff in here. It has more of the colorful sense of Chappie than the joyless mush of the DC scores. I quite like the synth take on the Chevaliers ostinato at about 8:35, for example. So it won't be a complete loss.

Still, it's a disappointment that Zimmer would take the scores in this direction. A&D proves you can throw a ton of synth at the DVC foundation and make it work, this feels like a much less elegant evolution. But I guess that's what you get when you trade a Zanelli/Balfe/Orvarsson ghostwriting team for Mazzaro/Kawczynski. :p

Hari Haran2016-10-13 14:05:27
It's a hodgepodge of Man of Steel, BvS, Inception and with thematic continuity.

But in a good way. I think it will be good, a step down from the other two, but nonetheless gratifying.

The suite is great, and I adore the theme at the end, beautiful rendition, with sonic mannerisms.

maestrof12016-10-13 16:02:12
Just wow!. Hybrid, who does the solo violin in the end of this suite ''Chevaliers De Sangreal''?

Hedon2016-10-13 16:24:22
I'd guess Ann Marie Simpson or Aleksey Igudesman as they performed it on the concert tour

JB2016-10-13 17:36:47
After listening the suite, it's nothing similar to the samples. This sounds like a mix of Angels & Demons with the theme of Chevaliers de Sangreal mixed in the man of steel score. It looks amazing. Cannot wait to see the movie and hear the score.

Zimson2016-10-13 17:42:20
It does sound a lot like MoS and BvS indeed. Suprised to see Junkie wasn't involved^^.

maestrof12016-10-13 21:25:30
<<No Joshua Bell anymore?>>

Yeah, I thought first the solo violin in the end of the suite ''Chevaliers De Sangreal'' theme is by Joshua. It's still good though.

Bro2016-10-14 04:34:59

luiszimmer reply Replies: 4 || 2016-10-13 04:12:28
Just arrived from the movies right now and I must say: this score is amazing. I think I'm saying it because the most beautiful moments (love scenes) Hans used "Science and Religion" and got it wonderful. Is my favorite song from Hans, and is all over the movie. The final sequence has a lot of influence of Man of Steel (the best moments of the action music, I think) and during the movie, Robert's theme is always there, with a lot of variations.

The end credits are awesome too, very alike 503 from A&D, but with A LOT OF CHORALS.

That's it. Another amazing score, in my opinion. That samples meant nothing!

About the movie? As a Brown fan, I'm a little disappointed with some changings at the end, but okay!

I'm from Brazil and it's holiday here. That's why they released today.

That preview of Hans' composition seemed a little bombastic for me. I'm sure it will work great in the score, but I am mostly looking forward to his personal symphonic compositions, more on the thematic/quiet side. Really excited for this though! Hope a deluxe edition gets released.

Gotham Rogue reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-14 22:26:01
I enjoyed this one fairly well...but it's just one of those "good" scores, you know? Like there's nothing inherently wrong with it, there's just not much that puts it at that next level. Maybe I'll feel differently after watching the film. I'm certainly not disappointed as I was with Batman V Superman.

This suite is Inferno equivalent of Moody Bruce suite. Another 5-10 minutes of good material in the score. But that's it. Well, it's not like we weren't expecting this. Hybrid said it was a mess long time ago.

Now all hopes on Dunkirk.

BTW is Hans scoring Guy Ritchie's Aladdin by any chance? Hybrid?

Hybrid Soldier2016-10-14 13:17:05
I hope not lol...

But Guy is mostly working with Pemberton now so...

Nick reply Replies: 2 || 2016-10-14 05:18:16
Okay...I listened to the suite Hybrid Soldier posted.

It definitely doesn't hold a candle to Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons, but it's not the absolute electronic thrashing mess the samples portrayed. Rather it sounds like Hans Zimmer just being Hans Zimmer...which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. I can definitely detect a Man of Steel vibe in it, with the chords and the instrumentation...I, however, was not a fan of Man of Steel. But I digress. It had some highlights (the frenzied strings and the subtle but overblown callbacks to Science and Religion) and some drawbacks (the synthetic stomping and the aural redundancy at times).

Hopefully the full album release soon provides some fresh surprises, because in some ways I've learned my lesson about judging too early. ;P

Hybrid -- great Suite!!

Just made a pass through the full album. I am loving it -- not disappointed at all. The book and the film is quite different from the previous two, and I like the stylistic differences in the score. Personally, it's great to hear some terrific synth stuff from Hans -- reminds me of some older works -- and certainly the references to Chappie and Inception. I have always thought the synth was a little more personal to Hans in some ways, and I think reveals itself here. Love the references to the previous two scores -- themes and notes from DvC and A&D -- and powerfully presented, esp from Track 11 forward. Perhaps surprisingly to others, one of my fav tracks is Elizabeth!

Looking forward to the movie!

Zimson2016-10-14 12:54:36
It's basically Chappie meets Tron: Legacy meets Mad Max: Fury Road. Not really what I hoped for.

mpolonest123 reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-14 03:18:43
So first impressions...

The Good:
Thematically speaking, Inferno is very faithful to DVC and A&D. You get several interesting variations on both Chevaliers and Science/Religion, and Elizabeth's theme is a true knockout. Combined with the power anthems, I will say that Inferno is the most emotionally engaging of the three. Also worth noting; the electronics are engaging when they are utilized in an action environment. VERY Chappie/Winter Soldier.

The Bad:
The first half of the album. Understandably, this is meant to represent the "hell" portion of the score, but it still makes for an unpleasant listening experience. Another big pet peeve, outside of the piano motif for Elizabeth and the other motif in Cerca Trova, I wasn't able to really pick out any major new ideas, which is fairly disappointing considering A&D had some pretty solid original material.

Overall, Inferno is the weakest of the three, imo. Not a bad score by any means, but definitely a big step down. Imagine a combo of the electronics from Chappie/power anthems of MoS/brutal soundscape of BvS/and the themes of A&D. If that sounds good, you may love this. The second half is definitely worth checking out regardless.

Jean-Pierre reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-14 00:27:40
I just came home from the movies in Berlin. Hans did a good job again. Picking some of the previous movie themes and making it more electronical and more minimal. I like it. Most of the time the music is in the background, nothing special compared to Interstellar. Anyway it's a complete different movie and it's nice to watch. Highlights are the variation of Science and Religion from A&D (just without big drums), the music when it comes to the showdown and the main theme Life Must Have It's Mysteries (like Chevaliers de Sangreal, little shorter but more vocals). I am a little disappointed that this track was just for the end credits, not for the final scene. It has deserved pictures and goosebumps moments like in TDVC. All in all I'm satisfied but to me it is the weakest Robert Langdon movie.

I keep forgetting how Pearl Harbor's score has a lot of female fans too. I always thought it was The Lion King and his Nancy Myers related scores that brought female listeners to attention, but it more often turns out to be either Pearl Harbor or Interstellar.

Although that being said, Youtube comment sections aren't always the most reliable indicator of things...

Hedon2016-10-12 13:34:09
Hybrid,

Do you know if Steve worked as much on this score as he did on Chappie? I recall you wrote he did a big part on that one.

Hybrid Soldier2016-10-12 14:55:45
Yes he did.

https://www.journeythroughhell.com/ samples for the score?? Sounds good!

Dragonseeker2016-10-04 08:43:06
I am hoping the score can be like Tron Legacy. Really invigorating electronic stuff.

Hedon2016-10-04 22:45:55
Well, as Steve Mazzaro and Andrew Kawczynski is working on the score you can expect a lot of electronics. To me this sounds like A&D meets Dark Knight Rises, Inception and Chappie

Ds2016-10-04 23:22:50
In several of the movie clips released so far, we can hear bass drops like in TASM2, I really hope that's in the actual score because it's just awesome :-D

...2016-10-04 23:45:38
Hmmm, am I the only one who wants another DVC sounding orchestral score?

Hybrid Soldier2016-10-04 23:47:09
That's... not gonna happen... lol

Bro2016-10-05 08:09:29
It would just depend on the mood, budget, and color palette of the film he's working on.

Hedon2016-10-05 10:04:53
I have a feeling we might get some Escape from ships here :D

thearmusicgroup2016-10-05 20:04:19
Sounds very similar to Inception, I'm super excited.

ThoR'12016-10-05 20:27:00
thearmusicgroup^^

Yeah, a lot of electronic and ambient stuff (Mel Wesson), well at least DVC and A&D themes still there. That's interesting!

David2016-10-11 23:40:36
Wow, The cistern is GOLD. Cerca Trova seems a great track too...I think Hans has made another terrific soundtrack.

Ahmad reply Replies: 10 || 2016-10-09 16:13:07
Everyone needs to chill. You're judging a 70mins score based on 30sec samples. I personally liked what the samples presented and I'm sure the score will make more sense after watching the movie. Sometimes I feel like people forget the purpose of film scores.

Less than a week to hear the full thing, I hope it gets a hi-res release.

Vivien2016-10-09 18:57:12
Absolutely, it's like spit on a movie just by his 30sec teaser. Wait the all thing ! I know with HZ scores, the better thing is to listen the score after seen the movie in order to fully appreciate it. Because without the scenes and pictures in mind, the score looks like too much functionnal, it's not like a simple song lol

Hari Haran2016-10-09 20:48:49
Absolutely agreed. Wait until the final product to form a conclusion.

NickyCarter2016-10-09 21:41:02
Excuse me, but where did you find the samples.
I am through the roof excited for this soundtrack and I am desperate to hear anything I can get.

Ahmad2016-10-09 23:06:10

If it doesn't work go to mediamarkt.de and search Hans Zimmer

NickyCarter2016-10-10 00:51:27
Holy Shit! You have no idea how much you just made my day! Thank You so much!

NickyCarter2016-10-10 00:57:37
I love hearing the main theme from the first two again. I really want him to bring back that other theme from the first two("The (something) Cross" when Silas notices the police and Alfred Molina gets out of his car in The Da Vinci Code and "Air" when their speeding back to the Vatican in Angels and Demons.)
I am also praying that Hans brings back "160 BPM" from the last film. It's easily one of the best songs he's ever done and one of my favorite movie sons ever and it really needs to be in this movie!

Mary Magdeline2016-10-10 01:06:28
The Citrine Cross (OST)

4m32 Teabing Explains (Complete)

Laurens2016-10-10 09:11:39
Yes 160 BPM is awesome but as I understand it's not featured in this one. Also, I have not heard the Citrine Cross/Air/H2O theme in any of the samples, but obviously that does not mean it is not in there somewhere. Let's hope the other action themes are as strong as those...

Ahmad2016-10-10 14:04:38
@NickyCarter You're welcome.
You can also listen to longer samples here: bol.com

My favorites from what I've heard are:
"The cistern", "Beauty awakens the soul to act", "Life must have its mysteries", and "A minute to midnight".
I'm most excited to hear those.

Dragonseeker2016-10-10 17:26:24
Thanks for the longer samples.

I feel better about the score now.

Im fine with this being influenced by Chappie

Dimitris Krommidas reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-10 12:36:05
I saw Zimmer in the premiere. Did he gave any interview?

Nick reply Replies: 8 || 2016-10-09 03:47:59
Dear God. What did I say in January earlier this year?

"I'm a tad bit worried for this one, to be honest. The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons are my top favorite Hans Zimmer scores, and the thing that boosted them for me was the liturgical beauty in the former and the sense of Gothic rock in the latter. Dan Brown's Inferno, however, doesn't have nearly as many elements of religious conspiracy and mysticism as the others, so I worry this may turn into a stereotypical colorless Zimmer action score."

These samples have all but confirmed my worries...they represent a stereotypical colorless Zimmer action score.

It sounds like someone ripped the backbone from Angels and Demons and then amassed a body around it from Chappie...it's tolerable (The Cistern for example) at best and obnoxious at worst (Cerca Trova for example).

Like, seriously?...I know this is a more modern and scientific story, at least compared to the other two movies, but can the music at least be pleasing to the ear, and not sound like an army of R2-D2s stampeding through a symphony hall?

"But they're just samples; you shouldn't judge based on samples." Okay...but where are the "choirs and choirs" promised earlier? Were they intentionally omitted from the samples to piss us off? I sure hope so, because I'll have lost faith in Hans Zimmer if that isn't the case...actually scratch that. I'll have lost faith in Hans Zimmer when he collaborates with a bunch of obscure electronic artists...Da Vinci Code was a solo effort and Angels and Demons was assisted by only two others.

Please, I hope I'm proven wrong when the full tracks are released in a few days.

mpolonest1232016-10-09 04:49:06
To be fair....

Zimmer most likely scored this based on what the director wanted (and probably temped). The music is meant to serve the film, not the other way around. If Ron Howard wanted a more serious version of Chappie, that's what he delivered.

I will agree, however, that the samples are a mixed bag. I like the electronic style here, but I'm not really picking up on any standout new themes. Some tracks are coming across as pure sound design. And the reprise of the Camerlengo material worries me in regards to temp tracking.

Just a little bit more time till the whole thing is released and we can all judge fairly!

Bro2016-10-09 08:20:02
Da Vinci Code was far from a "solo" effort.

Hybrid Soldier2016-10-09 08:53:47
"Da Vinci Code was a solo effort and Angels and Demons was assisted by only two others."

lol people do really see what they want to see, no matter how wrong it is...

Rodhamine1232016-10-09 11:03:37
Too bad Lorne did not work on this one, i just hope that most of these tracks don't sound like Must There Be a Superman all the time.

Nick2016-10-09 14:39:37
@Hybrid Soldier

Excuse me. The information regarding the co-writers were blurbs from Filmtracks.

Edmund Meinerts2016-10-09 14:45:21
Yeah, Filmtracks is *not* where you go to get information on who did what on an RCP score; this is. :p

Really hoping this score doesn't let me down as I really like the first two and in fact don't think Zimmer has topped Angels & Demons since he wrote it; haven't listened to the samples for Inferno but you guys are making me nervous. I don't even mind there being a lot of electronics, A&D had that, but...

isildur2016-10-09 15:27:44
No interviews of Hans about the score? Movie is almost ready for release. Is he not giving interviews these days? BvS also didn't have much of the promotion, score wise. I only remember one interview with Hans and Junkie.

AndMusic2016-10-09 18:05:53
Totally agree . Wish Lorne had worked on it .

Vivien reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-09 15:52:27
There is some Chappie/Inception influence here, the all thing sounds very 90' Zimmer style and I like this :)

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2016-10-09 08:07:37
So apparently no one read what I've been saying for the past 6 months ? lol
