Are there any Interviews were Hans talks about Last Samurai? Somehow I can't find any video or text interviews or anything... there must be something. Thanks!

Here is a short interview with Hans about Last Samurai. It's a little but I think it could be interesting for you.
Hybrid.. I heard that hans stopped an expanded last samurai release from lala-land records... Is that true??? And if its true.. do you know why???

I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. When he was about to sign my LLL broken arrow he flipped (not at me) about the release, saying he hates it when labels do that as he prefers his music the way they were released first time. He still signed it thankfully. Where I can agree with him on most of his OST, there are a small handful of albums that are missing so much. However I wouldn’t even buy a last samurai LLL release as the OST is a great listen as it is. Same with angels and demons. But that’s just me, many people prefer expanded albums and The last samurai would have been nice for those people.

I no agree with him. No is fair for the fan no have the access to this stuff because of the direct action of the composer.

Hans also don't like this score

Yes I can confirm a release was cancelled about 4 years ago. I cannot say why exactly though.
I've been discussing it with Hans & persons of interest to see what can be done to get it released, and I can tell you Hans is not blindly against the idea...
We'll see how all this goes...

The fact that Hans has come to dislike this lovely, emotional score while proudly putting his name to stuff like Dunkirk and Inferno is a pretty clear sign of how far apart our paths have drifted over the past several years. :(

Wait, in what world Hans doesn't like The Last Samurai ?
That's absolutely not true... Wait for the suite he built himself for the concert "The World of Hans Zimmer" in a few months !

Hybrid, do you know if there are plans for a CD/Digital audio release of "The World of Hans Zimmer?" I am super excited about this concert.

This is one of my favorite Hans scores, period, so I'd welcome an expanded release. The OST was solid, though.
As for Hans not liking this score, yeah right. He's talked about it as one of the scores he's actually quite proud of.
Olive

Yes, especially when we read the 2003 interviews in which he says he even traveled to Japan to do research. Only the trip is reason to love this score.

Has Zimmer ever talked about King Arthur or Pearl Harbor? I never even hear him briefly mention of those scores.
Olive

I saw a video of him during the premiere of "Inferno" talking to a reporter about "Pearl Harbor". She said that was her favorite. Hans replied that he and she were the only ones who liked it.
Elsewhere I read that Berstein wrote a letter to him praising "Pearl Harbor."

@Mephariel Go to youtube and search for "hans zimmer making of king arthur". There's a behind the scenes video for the making of the score with Hans.

Sadly Last Samurai wasn't featured in World of Hans Zimmer Concert.
Have any of you seen the "special edition" version of this score? Is it legit or no, theres supposedly a 40 minute suite with it but theres no page for it on this site so I wasn't sure if it was legit. Thanks!
Mr Tweedy

Sounds like a fan made version.
I don't get why people bother adding a lengthy medley that contain the same content as heard in the score, and claim it's a "special edition".
What is this "Journey Theme" at the end of the track list ?
Evenstar

The Journey theme is probably another take similar to Taken.

it's a cue that hybrid always posts at an end of a complete score tracklist, just to feel better then others, that he might have something, what others don't have. he's doing that always, so i would even say, that track doesn't exist at all.
Hybrid Soldier

To be fair, people just may not know the score as well as you do. It's from the OST, I assume.

2013-09-02 08:48:28
Wow hybrid, really? Now you also offend people here, chapeau to you!
And calling a track "Journey theme" and putting any track time doesn't make us know which track you mean. And as you're doing this EVERYTIME a complete or a sessions score has been leaked, is just shady from you, just to feel better on your own.
There are always these theme or suite cues from you, which are maybe bad edited and mixed by yourself.
And you should think twice before you're offending here someone!
Instead of being happy that everyone can enjoy this beautiful music by Zimmer, which is our all passion and hobby, you need to act again like a prude chick, which goes totally crazy because someone can enjoy this beautiness too now.

Well said, Algren. Adding a track and a time does not tell anyone anything. Hybrid's attitude leaves a lot to be desired. He will probably delete these comments, again to make himself feel better.

2013-09-02 10:30:17
Hybrid, before you delete these comments, I'm sure Hans wouldn't be very pleased if he knew you were the reason that half his scores get leaked in the first place. Then you insult someone on here just asking an innocent question. Take a good look in the mirror. You run a fan site (big whoop-dee-do). It's not like you're getting these scores because you're in the RCP studio with him actually MAKING THE MUSIC (that would require an ounce of creativity wouldn't it? Something your behavior on here says you lack). You're no better than anyone else. It's appalling to see you act so oblivious to your own behavior. So relax for once. Don't be so damn condescending.

We´re not talking bad about hybrid. but just read, someone posts a simple question, and hybrid just offending everyone here as dumb. who the fuck should know what cue the ¨journey theme¨ is?
Mike
2013-09-02 18:30:35
I think every person here being ridiculous. We don't know what the Journey theme is, Hybrid calls us dumb for not knowing, and we all go crazy. For goodness sakes, do knowing the Journey theme or unnecessary rudeness really matter? Go, find a way to figure out what the Journey theme is, and know that Hybrid will be Hybrid for better or worse. It's not the end of the world.

While I agree Hybrid seems to be doing with every Complete Score that gets released, in this instance, it's not that hard to figure out. Do you guys not remember when this movie was first released? Think about it, "Journey Theme." What's perhaps Zimmer's most famous cue that has the word "journey" in it? Yeah, "Journey to the Line." And when "The Last Samurai" came out in theaters, what was one of the cues used in the theatrical trailers? Yep, "Journey to the Line"-theme, or a variation of it. This is probably nothing more than a trailer cue, so it's not worthy going all crazy on Hybrid. Calm down. Move along. And enjoy this treasure.

What part of Taken is edit to make the Journey Theme? The last part runs around 1m34s, is that it??

2013-09-05 11:12:11
Hybrid is absolutely right. "Taken" from the official OST is not the film version. There's small variations... But ... he forget something : "They Are All Perfect" (called here Farewell To A Friend) as we can hear it in this Complete Score is not the film version too. Hybrid, may be you should add to your track list "They Are All Perfect" from the OST, because this one is the film version.

Track 2 - Spectres In The Fog (from the start) on the OST have a differently mixed, and a little longer, beginning than the corresponding track, on the 'complete', 2m13 (track 9 - "Taken" on the above tracklist)...
There's also some other differences (well, or at least one I can remember), 7m40B/C (track 35 - "Farewell To A Friend") also have a slightly different mix (at one point at least), compared to the OST.
If there's other differences as well, I don't know.

Hybrid, after going through the OST I just have to ask... From What OST track is the "Journey Theme" taken? I know you haven't answered this question before and well the question must be quite annoying, but well I'd really like to know:)

It's the last 5 seconds of Track 1 from the ost + the first part of track 2. It's basically an alt version of Captured with a longer opening. The flute part in the beginning is in the very end of the first track so has to be edited together with with track 2.
After some research I got my hand on the cuesheet, now you can have fun renaming the bootleg :

When you see a tracklist here, means that you can get it too by using Google. It doesn't mean we're all freaked out because of some titles, but more that we too can enjoy and hear more music, alternates and variations of the score.
Do you understand?

And even if you don't download them, you get the following:
--the name of each cue that plays in the movie --possible composer credits for the cues --you can listen to them on the internet
This is one of the few scores where I feel no need for the complete version to service. To me, the album contains all the music worth hearing, and even "The Final Charge" cue was released. Still nice to see a page for it.
