It's nothing short of a masterpiece, a modern opera. The choir is beautiful, and the choice of gospel for the first track gives it a unique identity, though I'm not sure how well it meshes with the orchestra. It feels a bit off, but will hopefully improve for me on further listens.

The composition, has to me, elevated Powell to the status of the second best living composer (Williams is still first for now). It's pure orchestral beauty and mastery with variety of texture, color, and style, with seamless tonal transitions. The complexity rivals some of the great works of the past.

It's strange to me that this is called "choral works". Sure the choir is an important element, but it really should be named "Hubris Symphony", or "Hubris: The Opera", because that's the status the album deserves. My Attempt at a chronological order with edits (feel free to correct any mistakes or if I missed anything)

1. Rogue One is a bit of an odd one. From what I'd heard, Desplat had joined on the condition he'd be allowed to do his own thing and not ape Williams. But once they decided to overhaul the film, they pressured him to go that exact direction. Things stayed still for a while (in which he still got paid) before he was finally let go very late into production. So the idea he sorta just left is interesting, so I'm curious to hear what that was about.

For BW, it seems very likely to me that Marvel simply were unsure about Alexandre's music, so I'm guessing they hired Balfe to do some demos and decided from there. Who knows what the exact timeline is, but I'd wager it'd have to at least be this year if he's been on it a bit. Especially with AD's name having stayed on the posters during it.Hybrid, Desplat left Rogue One just for his own idea? I know he left that movie beacuse schedule conflict for the reshoots.
But for Black Widow seems that the replacement was since months ago with Lorne writing and recording the score at the same timeht tp:// filmmusicreporter. com/2020/04/01/ track-list-for-disneys-live-action-mulan -soundtrack-album-revealed/

Why release a tracklist for an album that won't be released for another 6 months at least. That's just a punch in the gut, in my opinionSo it won't be a last minute and hasty job?No idea but he was on it for a bit, I think.
Hybrid, do you know how long Lorne had to score?Score is recorded already.Yup, which makes me wonder if they had to wait before announcing it, considering Desplat was still being listed in posters prior to the delay.I think Lorne teased this some time ago by sending a picture of researching Russian music on insta (maybe)Hello,

I'm looking for the translation of the song God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi in English of French.

Could anyone help me ?

Thank you !

The best score of the last 20 years!
The sound is so impressive!

Edmund Meinerts2014-05-20 12:13:29
Bah! It's good, but to say there's been nothing better written since? Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, At World's End, How to Train Your Dragon...bullshit!

Besides, 20 years ago was 1994. This came out in 1991. :b

badbu2014-05-20 12:20:25
LOTR...no...JP...no...POC3...ok, you're right!HTTYD...no...:P
yes, i know :D
But this score was Hans breakthrough :)

Hybrid Soldier2014-05-20 12:23:41
This score is far superior than HTTYD... lol

RIP Edmund Meinerts

Edmund Meinerts2014-05-20 12:39:45
You seriously think this is better than Lord of the Rings?

ERS2014-05-20 13:20:25
This just in: Backdraft will go down in history as the best score ever written for film. You heard it here first, folks! People three centuries from now will remember BACKDRAFT as the pivotal score that had "impressive sound."

RealFfingMusic@23142014-05-20 13:44:40
No, we don't. :P

badbu2014-05-20 13:59:00
@Edmund: yes, i think this is better! :)

Greg2014-05-20 14:02:45
This is the worst bullshit i ve ever read since the bible...
How is it even possible to think that this score which doesnt even have 1h of music can beat the LOTR and its 12 hours of music?
Backdraft, honnestly no one gives a fuck about that one, LOTR has sold out its concerts for the last past years so please think this straight.

badbu2014-05-20 14:23:41
ok sorry, i change my feelings and my mind :D

Anonymous2014-05-20 15:24:28
there are more interesting subjects to press on than what's the best music ever written. I for one like to know what happened during the album production for this film. Compared to this bootleg the stuff on the Milan disc sound like all new recordings. Tthat epilogue cue in particular sounds hell of a lot better on the Milan disc than here, even if the sound quality is not so good.

ZimmerFan2014-05-20 17:51:30
Of course, I love me some Zimmer, but only Zimmer drones think this beats things like Jurassic Park and LOTR. Pathethic...

Per2014-05-20 18:23:13
The film mix (or original mix or what you wanna call it) of the Epilogue cue (or all the cues for that matter, but in particular the Epilogue) I find far more superior, and more enjoying, and certainly more powerful!, than the lousy album mixes.

Only thing I liked about the album mix was that extra piano...

Ds2014-05-20 20:42:03
This is a nice score but holy shit it doesn't hold a candle to most HZ scores, and certainly not to HTTYD!

Marcorea2017-03-30 10:31:53
I gotta agree with ds here. I love BACKDRAFT and I'm a pretty big hz fan but there is no comparison. Especially with HTTYD. IMO zimmer cannot orchestrate in the same way with an organic orchestra the same way as shore, Willian's and even powell. He adds a lot of extra layers through synth. But zimmer is the best at the style of music he produces.

David2018-04-23 20:21:59
It's been nearly 27 years since this came out in 1991.

Edmund Meinerts reply Replies: 2 || 2017-03-29 16:47:31
Listening to this complete score for the first time and it's really striking how different the mix is on the album. The snare drums are much further forward, and everything sounds a lot brighter and immediate but also "thinner" on the album. Whereas the film mix has synth parts I didn't even know exist, like at the very beginning of the main titles/"Fighting 17th".

I'm trying to decide which version I like more, and it's difficult! The film versions sound "richer" but I miss the ballsy snare drum rhythms...

Hybrid Soldier2017-03-29 23:21:21
One is HZ, the other (the album) is not. End of story... :P

detective mittens2018-01-13 19:56:14
I think it's great if you have both versions, so you can choose whichever you feel like :)

I agree with everything you said except that I don't miss the ballsy snare drum rhythms so my vote goes to this mix xD

It's a bootleg, so it's not for sale. *** EDITED ***
