I don't blame Hans. I know it's watertower.

But this kind of crap and 56 editions and bonus tracks push me to pirate it. So far I haven't purchased 1 WaterTower score although I purchased a looooot of other ones.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one. Score fans don't like several editions of a soundtracks, exclusive apps and stuff. Just sayin'Blame WaterTower, not HZ. They did the same circus with TDKR and Inception (we even fought them with HZ to put the Inception bonus tracks out)... :/Yes. Hans Zimmer seems to be the new Lady Gaga of soundtracks.

Sneek peeks, samples, fan made promos, interviews about how brilliant the score is, featurettes, 1 track that is sold 'accidently' on iTunes a month in advance, trailers, soundcloud, movieticket exclusives...

It's a score goddamnit. It's made for the movie/movie studio/director and not for the fans. I was always glad i am not into a lot of commercial music because of all this hype crap.

Sorry needed to vent. This hype and so called promo's are having an opposite effect on me ^^
I love the distorted bass sound in that trailer! Sounds really crazy. This might be part of the few tracks giving credits to Hans & Junkie XL, because it's more electronic. But who knows...I do think "Flight" is an amazing track, though. If John Williams sees the movie, I'd love to know what he thinks of the score.
I agree..... but at the same time i really CAN'T wait for this soundtrack to be released so i'm always glad when a new piece is released :p

Hybrid: as a HZ fan, i really don't know how you can resist!I agree Ed, that's also why I don't listen to any of all this...I agree; most of the samples are lame, too. They purposefully leave the important tracks for the actual release.I'm probably preaching to the wrong crowd here, but is anyone getting a little sick of the endless procession of streaming tracks, samples, sneak peeks etc.? It just seems like they're cranking the hype wheel WAY too hard. I haven't heard any of the music except what was in the one trailer, but it seems like they're putting up a new cue every couple days now. Chill! Leave some for the album, guys...I found a two minute preview of "Flight Part 2". I'm not Hans Zimmer's biggest fan--I don't like everything he's written, but if you ask me, this was fantastic. Very big and epic. As MGDrone said below, it amazes me that Hans has scored films for the two most (arguably) popular superheroes out there.
the question is why release an "exclusif track" for preordered ticket called flight part 2 and put the same cue in flight (the version in the album. nonsense?

plus the transition between the two part is too brutal.Guitwo, you find 1-3 second flexibility with track lengths of songs truly ripped from the CD all the time on youtube. Just because the track is 4:20 instead of 4:18 is hardly a valid argument.
The one on youtube is actually 4'18" long!anybody know about Flight Part 1? Been looking for it but can't find it....fan made edit i rather say

flight is suppose to be 4:18.
The quality is the same throughout and the only spot that might be copy/pasted is the gab in the middle. I think we may have the full track here ladies and gents :)
There's a 4'18" 'Flight' track on youtube. I wonder if it's the real one or if it's fan made.

It begins with the 60" sample and ends with 'Flight Part 2'. The mid-part sounds like the piece HZ played at the live performance the other night...Can't help but wonder if Disney is not confident about the score to press a CD at its own plants. So apparantly the score release will be done by Intrada, which is great news, seeing how Intrada releases are usually very well done!

h ttp://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5590This is a great soundtrack to do homework to. Makes it feel all important and epic.

For those (very few) who want to the score and the songs chronologically, here's my ordering:

Thneedville
Ted, Audrey and the Trees
Granny to the Edge
Wasteland
Truffula Valley Fantasy
This Is the Place
Once-ler & Lorax Meet
O'Hare Warns Ted
The River Bed
Houseguests
Everybody Needs a Theed
How Bad Can I Be?
Valley Exodus
The Last Seed
Thneedville Chase
At the Park
Let It Grow
Funeral for a Tree

Interscope Records is also releasing an album of songs from the movie. Almost all of the songs were composed by John Powell, so maybe it merits inclusion on this site.

As for this album, I'm looking forward to seeing what Powell came up with for this film. I definitely think that the source material can lend itself to some good music!

Yeah, I also wonder why the Interscope Records isn't on this site.

Whoops, I meant to say, "Yeah, I also wonder why the Interscope Records ALBUM isn't on this site."

Another one: Is Powell actually composing Hotel Transylvania? While the movie doesn't look very good, it could be an opportunity for a very fun score!

And what's up with IMDb suddenly adding all these crazy credits to John?? (Like Cloudy 2 and Smurfs 2)

Does anybody know if Powell is actually doing that new Pixar movie entitled "The Good Dinosaur"? It's been on his IMDb page for so long that it could be true...

Blu2012-05-04 18:19:45
IMDb had listed Powell as the composer of the Toy Story short film (Hawaiian Vacation) for some time (way after it's release, in fact) until his name was replaced (fairly recently actually) with Mark Mothersbaugh. So it's probably not the best place to get precise information on upcoming composer projects, especially those with release dates set way in the future.

I'd welcome a Pixar/Powell collaboration, nonetheless.

funeral for a tree uses a tune from another song, what is it? its some sort of irish folk sad song I think.

jrej35552012-04-01 01:21:09
The piano tune is from the song "Let it Grow," which is also written by John Powell for the film. (Plus, I'm definitely no expert on Irish folk music, but I thought "Let it Grow" was supposed to be slightly gospel.)

Bought the soundtrack from iTunes today. It's a pretty interesting, and sometimes strange, melange of instruments and styles, but it still has John Powell written all over it. Some of the piano and female vocals are especially lovely! A very fun and engaging score which conveys a lot of diverse moods! My favorite tracks are "Ted, Audrey and the Trees," "Truffula Valley Fantasy," "Valley Exodus," "Thneedville Chase," and "Funeral for a Tree."

Samples anywhere?

Indiana2012-02-22 15:26:40
On colosseum.de, there are some samples.
Enjoy!

jXe2012-02-22 23:13:04
@#$%!!!!!!!!! after hearing the samples, it will get a lot of playing time! Go John!

Paul2012-02-22 23:39:51
I don't know... I'm a Powell fan and all, but something is not clicking with me, at least from the samples...

I'll wait for the full CD to judge it, though.

Does his oldness make him weaker?

The theme for Truffula Valley, which i expected to be great just like Jungle Nool's theme, is simply not great at all , too much like Elfman's.

And then for the song, i know he had tried so much, but here is what happens:
-Thneedville song really reminds me of that song from Just Visiting
-The music for the Once Ler's song is simply awful.

I hope John Powell sticks with animation, his compositions shine with them. Live action scores have too much control and are too narrow for a colorful pallet that John Powell needs.

Prott2012-02-24 11:29:37
Anonymous: That's not always the case - he managed to compose great scores for both animation and live action (The Last Stand, Paycheck). .-)

Anonymous2012-02-24 21:40:45
I am not saying he cant do it, and do it well he does..I am just saying, his best work is expressed in his animated films. My opinion of course. :0)

Prott2012-02-25 00:24:59
Ok... :)

The mature track titles sound very intriguing and hopefully could contain some great music. I'm really intrigued for Funeral for a Tree, for example...
