Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...

I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music!The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!
Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lol

Excited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)"It's good shit lieutenant" The principle is based on Thomas Newman's Bond. "Take back what's ours" and "the truth" is Ad astrahonnestly, I do get why people refer to MW2, but to be honest, it's not the same. With the amount of time I heard that score, I can say that it uses the same drums, and a pattern that is quite similar to the one used in MW2, but it is not a copy/paste. It's no different to me than Junkie XL re-using the same pattern of drum in all of his recent scores since Mad Max. When it comes from the same composer, I guess it's normal to have works that parts that similar from a score to another. Just think of John Murphy who re-use his powerful theme from Sunshine in a lot of his scores (28 weeks later, kick-ass, etc).

Actually I'm quite glad he re-used the themes from Mancina as that was, to me at least, a big miss for BB2 even though Rabin and Jablonsky did a great job. It's like doing a James Bond movie without the Bond theme. It might be good, but it miss the little something that gel everything together. ;) I really like what Lorne did on this one. Even though he re-used the theme, he made them his own, in a similar way he did with MI Fallout, while sometime paying homage to the original ones. ;) My 2 cents.

What's with DP's helmets on the top right?

I know on the liner notes there is a thank you directed towards Zimmer.. But what's the connection between HZ & DP?

RealFfingMusic2014-02-08 20:23:13
About the helmets, who is who?
I mean, there's a yellow and a blue. Which one's Guy and which one's Thomas?

Leo2014-02-09 06:28:08
Thomas wears the silver helmet and Guy wears the golden helmet :)

Yes, I have checked out *a* Blu-Ray rip...Have you...?

C.L.U.2012-02-03 00:02:21
Pretty sure there is only ONE Blu-ray rip out there. Anyway, it's pretty awesome

Hybrid Soldier2012-05-18 17:30:45
And the real sessions look nothing like that !

Mr. Fate2012-05-18 17:44:13
Ooh, ya cut me real deep Hybrid. Thanks for letting us know that fact.

Hybrid Soldier2012-05-18 17:59:43
What ?

I have the whole cue sheet for it... :)

Mr. Fate2012-05-18 19:01:48
What? That's completely different. Saying that the recording sessions *sound* (I know you didn't even say sound; you said look) different from this Edition of the score is not at all the same as saying the *cue sheets* of the recording sessions look different from this track list. (And I thought you were implying the former.)

Well, of course they do. You can't expect that he had the official cue sheets when he made his Blu-Ray rip, and besides, it is a really stupid idea to name the tracks in a Blu-Ray or DVD rip after the official track names.

That's good for you that you have all the cue sheets for it but you sure could have worded that previous post a lot better.

Hybrid Soldier2012-05-18 19:11:17
Using "look" was not innocent indeed.

Mr. Charles2012-05-19 03:28:38
I have a 66 track version. It's a combination of Metrotokyo's Blu-ray rip and a few other sources. Hybrid, I'm sure the real sessions look nothing like that tracklist that was posted.

I am very happy and content with what I have for TRON: Legacy, but the sessions would be nice, one day...

In the meantime, I have what I consider to be the most complete version of the score - it clocks in at 2 & 1/2 hrs

Has anyone noticed how the very beginning of Disc Wars sounds like that cue in Transformers? You can hear it when Sam asks the cop "are you on drugs?" and then it cuts to Lennox and Epps in Qatar. I do know that Hans did add a little touch on this, so maybe that's why.

Dakota reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-12 00:00:00
Next to Inception, the best film score of 2010. For me, anyway. The best track is #20, "Flynn Lives". It fits in perfectly at the end sequence, a very dramatic and emotional scene.

It's definitely ENCOM, pt II. I just listened to it. You mean the scene when the guard is up there with him and he jumps, right? If so then ENCOM, pt II.

Dakota reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-22 00:00:00
@JD,

I think it's either ENCOM, pt I or ENCOM, pt II. I've still only seen it once, but it's most likely one of those 2

JD reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-22 00:00:00
Does anyone know which track is played during the section of the film (near the beginning) when Sam is standing on Encom tower?

Dakota reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-15 00:00:00
@Eme

I completely agree with everything you just said. I listened to the CD since the day I got it, and it was all from pure memory that I made a tracklist for myself when I saw it.

Greg reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-15 00:00:00
Isn't Father & Son or at least a portion of it used immediately after The Grid also? There's definitely a piano rendition of the main theme at that point, and no one has listed a "missing track" for that scene.

Eme reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-12 00:00:00
@tomPoland

hah, who said anything about a notebook and pencil? It was memory and only memory.

If I find a score enjoyable/beautiful, I will listen to it routinely. TRON:L has been playing regularly on my car stereo since mid-November. I had plenty of time to ~mentally absorb~ each composition. So, recognizing each track during the film wasn't difficult at all. The correct ordering however was tricky, since many of the pieces are repeated and/or blended.

It's all about the flow of compositions for me. I don't see scores as 'only' an aid to a film's narrative. A score can also be it's own narrative if successfully executed... this is where the order matters, in my opinion.

Anywho, please excuse my OCDness with the track order, but the tracklist I submitted below is incorrect/outdated/etc.

I haven't played MW2 - I heard it's so called 'scenario' is a joke, so i said no. MoH has coherent, emotional story and decent multi, so I think EA game is a better choice. Also when it comes to music. Djawadi did much better job with MoH then 'Hans and co.' in MW2. Check YouTube and then decide.

PS Sorry Hybrid for off-topic.

Sergio reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-06 00:00:00
Yeah probably they're very good compsosers but not at the level of Zimmer or God Williams, but i hope the Djawadi will show us that he could do better and more better.
Anyway writing MoH you remembered me a thing. I've the PS3 but no war games because i usually don't love them too much (i've only COD.MW2 demo); but recently i knew that MW2 score is from Hans Zimmer and MoH, do you suggest me to buy them, at least for the score??

tomPoland reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-06 00:00:00
Definitely James Newton Howard - best guy in business nowadays. Shore is a very good composer also (LOTR or Departed - love that score), but IMO it's a different league.

Djawadi - i liked Iron Man, PB theme is nice, Clash is below average (no fantasy in it, you don't feel that this is ancient 'history') and beautiful MoH. Haven't seen FlashForward though so I can't tell anything about that. He could be very good, but i don't think he will reach Powell's level. Or HGW. But who knows... World needs good composers:)

Sergio reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-06 00:00:00
I agree with the marketing thing. In fact i saw the film only once and usually i do get away with one watch -excluding some particular case, like "The Dark Knight" that i saw it twice at cinema because i went it again not only because i loved it but also because i re-watched it with a friend of mine who hadn't seen it- and specially if in 3D!! (other marketing way to make money that not always works)
But i don't totally agree with the 3 best composers....considered that Williams is my God and always He will be it, and also considering Zimmer as a living genius i will specify the "Howard" that you said in two genius: James Newton H. and H. Shore, an other great man, genius and composer.
Finally we didn't mention the emergin genius! Hans Zimmer's pupil!! Ramin Djawadi!!!
A guy that did not only give a soul to the Iron Man movie, but also did the best TV series scores....

P.S. Hope to listen him in a new series of Flash Forward, i want it back!!!!! HANS DO SOMETHING TO HELP YOUR PUPIL MAKING THIS SERIES SCORE FOR OTHER 7 TIMES, PLEASE!!!!

Hey, i'm pretty sure that Burger King released an ultimate extra bonus tracks!! ;D
Quoting "2010/12/29 - tomPoland -- Who knows? Maybe KFC or McDonalds will release some extras:) "

Seriously, maybe some people could judge you totally crazy fro doing something like listing all tracks in order of listening or get every track is possible, but not me. Because i know how do you feel it. Because i know that a really good soundtrack joining a beautiful movie's atmosphere -like Tron- is one of the best joy given by life. And maybe it's for this that every movie that i really loved has a great soundtrack (like many Hans Zimmer's works and most of John Williams).
Love (for the music),

I'm against this kind of 'marketing' and forcing fans to buy the same thing 3 or 4 times. I understand when iTunes OR Amazon release some extras to expand its digital sale. But this? This is madness:)

Agree - good film + good soundtrack is something almost divine. Although i don't like huge complete scores - too much is too much for me; 70 minutes is my limit.

PS Howard, Williams and Zimmer - best 3 composers today.

tomPoland reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-04 00:00:00
I've never been in cinema twice on the same movie. Don't want to destroy first impression - better wait for DVD. But seriously - I respect people that are able to find even 10 seconds of particular song in a movie. Nice.

Seen the film 3 times now.... I made an effort to pay attention to the track order on my most recent viewing. Here's the order (and changes) I noticed:

01. The Grid
02. Overture (occurs during Father/Son storytime. A brief part of the track is featured.)
03. The Son of Flynn
04. Encom Part I
05. Encom Part II
05. Alan Bradly's Message
06. Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey
07. Sweet Dreams are (Made of This) by Eurythmics
08. (An unknown/unreleased track, briefly featured)
09. Recognizer
10. Armory
10. Arena
11. Round One
12. Rinzler
13. The Game Has Changed
14. Outlands
15. Father & Son
16. Adagio for Tron
17. Outlands, Pt. II
18. End of Line
19. Castor
20. Reflections
21. Derezzed
22. Fall
23. Sea of Simulation
24. Nocturne (Sam brings Daddy Flynn up to speed on current events in the real world)
25. Sunrise Prelude (I swore Solar Sailer occured here... I was surprised).
26. (An unreleased/unknown track)
27. Rectifier
28. Disc Wars
29. C.L.U. (this track isn't the full version. There's a nice string solo that's featured when Flynn asks, "Tron, what have you become?"/Tron finally shakes his reprogramming. This piece ends right before that moment.)
30. Arrival
31. Flynn Lives
32. Sunrise Prelude (the only track that occurs twice)
33. TRON Legacy (End Titles)
34. Solar Sailer
35. Finale
*36. Derezzed extended (remix)

Maybe one of them is the music used in the final trailer (the 3rd one). It starts when the Disney logo comes up and then you hear it again when the title comes up at the end. It sounds like a horn. I really really want it.
