Is it just me or does the “Catwoman” riff (not the main theme) in “Bar Shootout” and “Nothing Out There” sound very much like the main Scarface theme?<br><br>I’ve also noticed that Hans sometimes will write a main tune and a series of riffs for a character, but will mainly incorporate the smaller motifs in the film (Angelica’s music from OST, Megamind’s main tune, Catwoman, etc.) Definitely not a problem though, I like the variety.<br><br>Look at the evolution of Batman’s theme from Begins, where he had the 2-note motif and the actual theme, to here where it’s just the 2 notes and the chord theme. I wonder if that was Chris Nolan’s decision.John Powell answered in Facebook there is still 45 minutes of music outside from the CD.Yep, he knows how to do BIG and small moments. He's so versatile. I'm praying rian johnson uses him for his new trilogyThank you! Glad you enjoyed it.If there is one who can replace John Williams on Star Wars than is it John Powell!!<br><br>Great Job!!
It sounds great ! I think I will listen to the CD after the hamburg concert, to keep the surprise, because they will play some cues there ! <br><br>Are some french JP fans going to Hamburg next week ? It would be great to have a beer and talk about film music !Dear Mr. Zimmer (or those interested), <br><br> Over the years I have always enjoyed some of the higher-intensity compositions you have produced and made a point of putting my money where my mouth is and actually buying the soundtracks - money well spent. I've used specific songs of your's to get through moments of fatigue at work and also to prepare (silly as it may sound) for sporting events, even working out or running. I found them better than any rock or even electronic-type energetic music, until such a point, naturally, that I'd listened to them too many times and the magic wore off. Some of your songs rise to a crescendo that sometimes are powerful but perhaps lost on those who are unfamiliar with the corresponding movie scene ("Flight" from Man of Steel, it rises gradually but the concept you capture is magnificent, "Time" from Inception as well comes to mind). Some are obviously and undeniably potent like "A Dog Chasing Cars" or, going way back to when I learned of your work, "The Battle" from Gladiator which reminded me of "Mars, the Bringer of War", -- or even the latest "Sea Wall".<br><br> Admittedly this is odd but I can't help but wonder if despite all the solicitations you must receive it seemed to me I might as well send the following two-fold feedback: in the same way I was pleased to learn that Daft Punk was handling the soundtrack for the modern remake of TRON (and what a fine job they did) I was also heartened to find that you were handling the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049. It seemed a good sign to me at the time and I knew I would buy a ticket at that point. That was a movie (BR2049) I was worried they would BOTCH much in the same way they completely did whatever it was they did with remake of Total Recall (in which they completely stripped it of its cerebral essence and made it a very long chase-scene). <br><br> All of this is to express some appreciation and also plug an obscure pianist from Montreal who has been on the CBC and all that, who, when I spoke to him after a show and compared some of his energetic imaginative work (Nostos comes to mind, and damn he hit 99% of those complex piano notes) to your's he admitted it was a dream of his to work with you under any capacity. Of course I suspect nothing will come of this but either way I think it harmless to tip my hat your way as a long-time fan who has utilized your music for motivation many, many, many times and also note that on my esoteric playlists five or six came from you and one or two came from him (Nostos, Il, Hypoctite)<br><br> Lastly, it should be noted for the historians that one time Jean-Michel Blais saved us Canadians (if you do the collective math based on viewership) a great deal of time and intellectual agony. Chevy was running commercials during the NHL playoffs (last year, not the the latest Washington Capitals win) in which an irritating scenario of "real people" were supposed to judge cars/trucks that popped out from behind sliding doors or lifted from basements (aircraft-carrier-style), and the poor fools/actors/allegedly "real people" had to say something nice about it all. It was such garbage. How splendid, how refreshing, then, that they ran a good commercial with someone just winding corners and enjoying driving the damn car to the music, which I recognized as JMB's "Hypocrite". He saved the society a good 10k hours of perniciousness.<br><br>Whew! That's all from me. Love the music, keep it up. Please give JMB a shot I think you'll find his attitude/ethic/skills refreshing. Regardless of that at least it was worthwhile of me to express my appreciation for ten years of masterful original music on your part anyway.Separate question:<br><br>Is Toby Chu part of RCP? I think he had some connections at least right? Why wouldn't Hans go all-out for something that's going to be viewed on this scale? I mean, how hard is it to compose 45 seconds of compelling, original music when you've worked on innumerable 2+ hour films?Woah, Hans actually did good work on this; it's admittedly a bit anonymous-sounding, but the combination of percussion, strings, and choir works in a way that's reminiscent of Angels & Demons (oh, those were the days...).
John just precised this point, i was just too impatient ;)Hubris: Choral Works by John Powell is now available to stream worldwide on all digital platforms! &#128526;<br><br>Also available to download in 192k/24bit high-resolution from johnpowellmusic .com<br>CDs on https ://bit.ly/2lcQ5Ig :) and coming soon to Amazon and other retailers!<br><br>Thank you, everyone, who was a part of this record!<br>Enjoy &#127926;&#127930;Mega cool :) Wann wird dieser Remix released? :)This would be really nice that as the release is only available for download, we had the choice to download it in a better quality than the CD itself. We have no material piece in the hands, at least we would like to have such a contentment. I do have no action in Qobuz, but that should be a mandatory place for a download only music, for music lovers who like pure instrumental music. ;)<br>I'll be waiting for it !This album is absolutley wonderful!. I loved every second of it. I adore choirs in film music and an album like this is a very welcome treat!<br><br>Great job, Mr. Powell<br>10/10
Absolutely delightful score. Loved it.Where can we buy this "complete score"?What a wonderful soundtrack, I can not stop listening either. When I get home after work, Interstellar is the best soundtrack to listen to in the quiet of dawn. It's to get in touch with the Cosmos. Congratulations Hans Zimmer.from like.....4 years ago?I’m surprised nobody is talking about the expanded score that has leaked...!

Dear Hans,

I am your number one fan. Playing and listening to your music brings on me a sense of ecstasy. When the perfect song hits, an ordinary day becomes extraordinary. Even if I've heard your songs a million times before, they affect me the same way. It's the pulse of the beat, the flow of the chord structure, a repetitive keyboard part, background harmonies or the thump of a bass line.
The overall production of your tracks can bring this euphoria, making everyone wonder how you got the music to work.
I spend hours cataloging albums and genres, creating timelines, lists and graphs, as if trying to solve a physics equation. Simply trying to make sense of it all takes hours. The constant search for a new, essential artist, album or song is something I do, all for the love of music, this is why I know you and Rick Wakeman should join hands and do a project together. I am certain you and Rick have a special bond and are ready to make a great project together.

If we didn't have music, we'd have no purpose,

Kind regards and big hug from me,
Gilberto Palma.

But, I feel compelled to tell you that you have positively impacted my life with your music - which touches my core.
Thank you for creating. Thank you for your vision. And, above all else, thank you for your music which invigorates me. renews me, inspires me, and makes me both smile and cry. Thank you for being.

Namaste Hans!
What an incredible 1st half of the concert last night in Toronto!

I have high sensitivities to sound, lights, smells, and a few other elements.
Just would like to let you know that even though I brought my dark sunglasses for the bit of strobe lights I was expecting, it didn't help too much when some of the numbers in the 2nd half seemed to be bombarded with strobe lights!
It actually didn't leave a good feel, by the end of the concert. I realize it is not all about me, but as we were leaving, my son, daughter and I heard some people in the elevator on the way out, that they were also affected by the overwhelming strobe lights! Lady said she got a headache from it! My son wasn't feeling well, but he came because he loves your music so much, as my daughter.

Anyway Sir, your music is so great, it does not need strobe lights, they actually take away some of the high quality of your music because they are so distracting.

GREAT DRUMMER!!!! OMG!!!! What an amazing energy he has!
Your talks in between the music was GREAT to listen to, and deeply inspiring!

The one piece that brought me to tears was the theme from DeVinci Code, and that was just the violin playing in the beginning, simple and moving!

THANK YOU HANS ZIMMER for your MUSIC, CREATIVITY, and SHARING with the WORLD!!!!

Good Blessings to you and your loved ones, and all the other artists and crew behind the scenes, who make the in front the scenes happen!

Atlanta Concert - Tuesday, July 18th, 2017.

The concert was good last night, but not great. Re: there was a preponderance of bass that "washed out" the sound of all the instruments and detracted from the overall music. Wish I could have told him. The bass was so powerful that my wife's chest actually hurt afterward! Absolutely wonderful music and as a musician, I can really appreciate the talent, but the bass needs to be taken down several notches. Don't know if he'll ever see this. Actually listening to the Da Vinci Code score right now.

Dear Hanz,

I was at the Canandaigua concert last night, and I just wanted to say that your music reached across the world and touched me. I can't believe that a persona such as yourself would appear just an hour away from my tiny home town in rural upstate New York.

It's been my dream to write music for film for a long time, and I'm on my way to Malibu for college to study music. I've been afraid of failure in the impossible music industry, but your powerful concert reminded me that if I don't at least give music a try, I will live an empty life. Just like you said, a musician's life isn't a bad life. The challenge is incredible and the rewards sometimes slim, but in the end, it's a life with meaning, a life with something to believe in. Your music renewed that belief in me, for better or for worse.

I just wanted to let you know that, and thank you for being humble enough to come all the way out to the middle of nowhere just to bring us a little hope in the world.

Dear Hans

the experiment whom I have just lived this day was fabulous, you and your orchestra did nothing but climb levels throughout this extraordinary concert and I hope that it will climb of them others during the rest of your round and your life.

During all the concert, I did nothing but admire your work which is stunning like your production and your fastener towards your orchestra and your public .

Pirate of the Caribbean was brilliant especially the solos of Tina Guo, I had even shivers of them on my chair like for Gladiator, Inception, The Dark knight Small channels without forgetting celebrates it King lion where one was pleased immense to hear the voice of Mr Lebo M (Lebohang Morake) at the time of the beginning of the music.

I hope to re-examine you one day on the Belgian territory for your next round while hoping that there is one of them.

I wish you a good wind for your future productions, it was a pleasure of listening to you and to see you in truth even if I were far from the scene and it will be always a pleasure of listening to your musics.

Sincere greetings still a large whole thank you for what you do and courage for the continuation.

Live Tour Sound Levels - Glasgow edition

Leaving this comment here as not sure where else one would feedback on such things but...

I was at the show in Glasgow last night (18/06/2017) and sadly had a similar experience to quite a few of the posters below. The sound levels were really, really off and made the melody inaudible for most of the concert. For the first half of the concert it seemed there was some effort to counteract this (i.e. the pieces would find their level about half way through each one) but the second half of the concert was just a wall of sound. For example, The Wonder Woman Theme ("Is She With You?") was utterly unrecognizable except that Hans Zimmer made reference to it once the piece ended. It made me sad that all the build, nuance and explosive musical climax that HZ and his team are known for were lost in the cacophony.
I left feeling really angry and to be honest angry for the performers most of all. You can see that they play their socks off, are ridiculously talented and love what they do, but they were greatly misrepresented by the poor levels last night.

To be clear, I saw this concert last year in another city and it was amazing. When the music is allowed to shine it is truly wonderful. So my issue was with the poor sound quality rather than the music selection itself. I find it quite shocking that for a tour that has been going for well over a year, with a set running order, talented musicians and crew, and with the technology that we now have, that the sound could be such a disaster.

That being said, if you get a chance go see this tour. The lighting and staging are done well. Hans' anecdotes are charming and the musicians are a joy to watch. When the sound levels are on point the music is powerful and moving, and if you are fan of his body of work you really need to hear Hans Zimmer's compositions live.

Although a sad time you helped me get through the day and night. Gladiator was done so beautifully that night I balled my eyes out throughout the performance.

I saw Hidden Figures this weekend and as a former adolescent NASA geek from the 60's I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the stories. There were only two places in the film where the music grabbed my attention. Those times were after John Glenn's lift-off as he climbed into orbit and when he had his ticker tape parade. Can you tell me, is that a snippet of Carmen Ohio I am hearing?" If so, it is a great tribute to Sen. Glenn and his love for the Buckeye State. If not, chalk it up to failing hearing and an vivid imagination.

Having been a member of the OSU Marching Band, I assure you that you did hear the first 5-6 notes of "Carmen, Ohio" (the Ohio State alma mater) during the launch sequence.

Glenn himself went to Muskingum College, about 50 miles away from Ohio State. I don't know what their alma meter is.

Dear Mr Zimmer,

I would also like to join the comments about the concert in Budapest. I traveled with my mother from Novi Sad, Serbia and we bought the best tickets available, since we are both devoted fans. My mother started following Your work since she was a teen from the early 80s and she introduced me to movie scores for the first time when I was a child. Ever since, we listened to every new score with great admiration and excitement and we were hoping to have the opportunity to hear the live performance.

Finally, we bought the tickets for Budapest, but instead of the long anticipated evening filled with divine beauty of music, we were devastated during the second part of the concert.

The first part was truly what You are known for and what people want and expect to hear. I must say that the theme from the Gladiator moved me deeply and it represented the high-peak of the evening. The themes from The Lion King and the DaVinci Code were simply perfect and incredibly emotional as well. I would especially like to praise the solo sections of Ms Tina and Mr Lebo.

From all the magnificent and beautiful themes from King Arthur (which I consider inevitable to perform), Pearl Harbor, Rush, Spirit the Stallion of the Cimarron, The Last of the Samurai and Tears of the Sun and many many others, the setlist of the second part of the concert was a painful disappointment.

Instead of blissful peace it brought nothing but aggression and destruction with that much emphasis on the electric guitar. It is the type of music that goes quite well with the superhero movies, nevertheless we expected more themes with the symphonic orchestra instead of all that electronics. When I came home, the first thing I did was to listen to the good old themes I mentioned above, just to erase the memory of the evening before.

However, I would go to the concert again without a second thought if the setlist would be modified and performed with more acoustic instruments and piano to represent the very best of Your work, which is how You initially won the audience.

All of the above was said and written in hope that You will take these remarks and the comments of Your longterm fans in consideration.

Yours faithfully,
Sara
