So that's two people so far describing "The Causeway" as "powerful"...man, for me that was one of the worst cues from TWS!My initial impressions after one listen:<br><br>I really love that Jackman took the opportunity to distinguish this score from TWS (which I do enjoy). Instead of completely rehashing the style/themes, or fully abandoning the concepts, he managed to find a perfect middle ground which feels like a natural progression of the music. Both The Winter Soldier and Cap's themes actually get development, something I was initially worried about.<br><br>In regards to the orchestrations and themes, the bombastic approach works really well! While there is nothing as powerful as The Causeway or Taking a Stand, the action cues shine. Kudos for the interplay between themes! The end result is a score that is far more varied in style than TWS was. Even the new themes introduced are pretty strong.<br><br>Now the bullshit; Why the FUCK can Marvel not understand thematic consistency? One of the better things about Age of Ultron was the integration and development of the existing themes in the universe. Here, neither Iron Man's nor The Avengers themes get any mention at all (outside of a few small hints here and there). This is what kills the score for me. Hopefully the film tracks in some music to fill in the gaps.<br><br>So yeah, this is a mixed bag. On one hand it's a pretty heroic and developed score. On the other, it's a HUGELY missed opportunity. Oh well, here's hoping Infinity Wars fixes this issue.<br><br>*Side Note: Is it just me or does the orchestrated version of Winter Soldiers theme (Overture, Adagio) sound like Morricone's The Thing?Loved this much more than TWS, which was just flat out boring aside from the Winter Soldier theme (despite being distinctive, made for an unbearable listening experience). Some of the action material just feels like some filler material. The themes feel less like themes and more like extended motifs. But the good thing is that they seem to be clearly defined this time around and are more upfront in their presentation.<br><br>Overall, much better than TWS, but I think Jackman needs to step up his game if he is working on Infinity War."Kudos", I won't say that.<br><br>So far I'm just disappointed by this score. It's like Pixels, it has the "big orchestral emptiness" I won't give a full opinion before I see the film tomorrow, but it's just so faaaaaar from Cap 2...<br><br>As I feared, without Dom & Matt, Jackman just seems lost...@Mike, the problem is the "generic" sound into. Scores like this: hundreds. If you change the title "Civil War" to Dracula Untold or Mission Impossible Rogue Nation also it works.<br><br>TWS had violent sounds making prominent and noteworthy, not like this. The only track with TWS music is "Boot Up".
If the entire score sounds like the suite above, then I do have to give serious kudos to Jackman and co. for listening to criticisms. This score, from what I've heard, does at least have the TONE of the first Captain America and of the two Avengers movies, even if those themes aren't present, and that is a refreshing surprise.@ThePaleKing I can't say that my expectations are little lower now. But, your reaction is probably mine for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I said "This has no themes and mainly background noise. This is not as good as the original." But then I saw the movie and it worked. I went back and heard it again and loved it the second time. Maybe you need to see the film and you'll probably have a different reaction. Where have you heard the score?@Russel I was just wondering where you heard the whole score.I agree so much! Run Free and Homeland are so delightful, entertaining, propulsive, emotional, really grand music.<br><br>Btw I can't help thinking Homeland would have been an amazing fit somewhere in the concert setlist!I can maybe, maybe hear a bit of Toys in there, but where Clemmensen is hearing The Rock is anyone's guess. Then again, he seems to be particularly good at hearing Crimson Tide in particular in scores that don't sound like it at all (really, any time Zimmer uses a male choir, it's a Crimson Tide clone)...and all while giving Horner multiple free passes for far worse. Oh well. Just shrug and laugh it off.<br><br>I'm not sure the Spirit as a whole is as well-rounded as Lion King or Prince of Egypt (it gets a bit repetitive after a while), but I ADORE the themes, and I'd put "Run Free" from the original album in my top 10 Zimmer cues ever. The whole thing sounds so warm and organic for some reason (which is odd considering it's so synth-heavy). It's like musical comfort food. :)
I keep saying<br>the electronic parts were the good part of TWS, not terrible ideas at all<br>the album was just a horrible representation of the score<br>I understand going orchestral for this tho<br>It just doesn't sound like a /theme/, per say; it very well could be /for/ Spider-Man, or at least for a Spider-Man scene, but it's not a /theme/ like, say, "Is She with You?" was a theme for Wonder Woman, or "Red Capes" was a theme for Lex.<br><br>Okay, probably bad examples, but hope that makes sense ...@ZekeWars010 Lol, yet you're listening to it now. Okay..@ThePaleKing So the track "New Recruit" isn't solely for Spider-Man?Hopefully ...<br><br>I've picked up on Zemo's, Panther's, the Civil War's, and /possibly/ Spider-Man's so far, and I can't really say much other than they're perfectly serviceable.<br><br>Zemo's is nice enough, the Civil War's is pretty good, and for Panther and Spider-Man, they don't really feel like /themes/ so much as /recurring motifs/, which, again, I can live with.<br><br>If anything, the most memorable parts of this one have been the fully orchestrated segments from "The Winter Soldier." I just wish / hope the badass electronic bits came back as well.
Lack of themes? But there are themes for Zemo, Iron Man, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and the Civil War. Maybe you need more time.Reading the filmtracks review of this score... makes me want to cry.<br><br>"any hint of the enthusiasm or epic size that was evident in The Lion King or The Prince of Egypt is completely missing here."<br><br>"sound like the bastard child of the themes from The Rock and Toys"<br><br>What a crazy read. It's one of my all-time HZ favourites, I find it so refreshing, epic and thematically rich. Every time I hit the play button, I'm 11 again...You see, weirdly enough, it doesn't feel all that robust or powerful to me.<br><br>Maybe this can just be equated to personal tastes or whatever, but this has so far invoked a very similar feeling I had to most of Silvestri's work on TA, and at least that had a /really/ strong main theme to keep me interested.<br><br>At the end of the day, I guess this just feels lacking in a distinct sense of identity from Jackman; say what you will about TWS, but the ideas there at least felt more unique. Sure, I could've done without the veritable /over/abundance of electronic stuff at times, but his main theme(s) all worked really well for me, and played out really interesting both on / offscreen.<br><br>Honestly, I was hoping, if he decided to go more "full orchestra," we'd get something more along the lines of Kingsman or First Class, and this doesn't even feel like that.<br><br>I mean, it's certainly not /painful/ to listen to, but the listening experience just feels a little halfhearted, shallow, and kind of a letdown to me.<br><br>But again, maybe seeing it play out in the film itself will change my mind.See, most of us are feeling the exact opposite! He took all the terrible ideas from Winter Soldier and replaced them with a robust orchestral action score. It's excellent!+1 totally agree, I'm also disappointed. Expecting another "TWS" and has nothing to do.

Yo!

Could somebody post the CORRECT lyrics to "MY ENEMY" by Hans Zimmer?
Or if you have a link to a page?
The problem is, I've checked out many different pages, but on each site the lyrics
are slightly different... Some say: "Something's happening, mind is dripping"
While others say "Something's slipping, mind is dripping."

Can anybody help?

Hi

Is possible to request an upcoming releases section, in the blue pane, betweem fan covers and about/feedback.
Instead of browsing through every composer, it would be nice to know at what date what score is release, it can be very simple as:

June
How To Train Your Dragon 2 - John powell
The Lion King (The Legacy Collection) - Hans zimmer

it can be only text, dosent have to be links, it would be nice to have all releases at one page

Lambegue2014-05-18 22:46:11
There is already such a thing, on the "news" page. It is the "latest releases" section. I agree that the name can be quite deceiving, as some of the indicated albums are in fact not released yet. :)

As a current music student I am pursuing a degree in music technology (the closet degree my university offers to composing). I am attending this school because it offered me a very large scholarship for music but does not offer a composing degree. My main concern is should I transfer to a school with this degree or just complete my music tech degree and compose? In other words, would a music technology degree hinder my chances of getting a job in composing?

hans -

i wouldn't feel right visiting this page and not expressing to you the impact your music has had on my life. To be more specific, the musical score from Gladiator and how profoundly powerful and true to the film it really was. 14 years later and I still consider it the best musical score of any movie I've ever seen (my opinion, of course). The success of that film is attributed to your musical genius. Thank you for pouring your heart and soul in to your work and wishes to you for your continued success.

I just worked my butt off,for 2 weeks-and then i read the RULES ! You are not in the competition if you are NOT a citizen of these countries ; 2.4 This Competition is open to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Germany and Sweden only Im living in my native Copenhagen,9 km from Sweden-and that fact disqalify´s me from the contest ! Just be shure you know these "rules" before youre get youre hopes up ! I simply find Hans Zimmer FRAUDULENT when he says "Come-ALL composers-I Want You ! Hans Zimmer DONT want you if youre not from those-seemingly arbitrary countries ! Good Luck (with that name-youll need it!)

Annie2014-03-10 01:43:04
Really? It took you two weeks to rework this? Then you're clearly wrong for this job anyway because over here in LA you have to write a minimum of 2 minutes a day, for TV even more - in the same quality as that competition piece.

Also, don't call him fraudulent, please. They clearly marked the rules, it's your fault for not reading them beforehand. Lashing out at him and his peers for your mistake is not fair. Also, I'm guessing that the reason for the country restrictions is simply a VISA reason - it is very hard to get in the US so I'm guessing they have some go-to people for these specific countries. For all other countries, it would probably simply be too hard or expensive to get a VISA.

Now peace, please.

Mr. Hans

I'm a Performance major at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and will be working with a lot of composers in the future. For my final Artistry, Creativity, and Inquiry seminar project, I get to present the views and experience of one expert in film scoring, and I'd like that person to be you. Because of your amazing work for film such as The Lion King, and The Dark Night, your creation of a variety, and your unique background which was raised by musician mother, and engineer father, I know my class would be really interested in getting your insights into film scoring. Would it be possible for us to have a brief 10-15 minute discussion about this over the phone or Skype in the next 3 weeks? I know how busy you must be, so if it isn't possible, I completely understand and appreciate your considering it.

Thank you for your time,

Could you make an option to load the latest releases as a LIST? Right now there is the scrolling bar at the top of the website, which is an improvement from the previous arrow controls. But could you make a "See All" option so that we could view all the latest soundtracks released in a list?

I really appreciate your time. Thank you.

Mr. Zimmer: I have zero talent at anything and can only admire and appreciate from afar, both literally and figuratively, but I have watched Angels and Demons over and again, I am mesmerized by the score. I am an atheist, perhaps my lack of talent makes me so, perhaps religion is also a talent or a gift as Professor Langdon suggests. As such I cannot "feel" what one might feel by making beautiful music and I know I cannot truly appreciate it or the actually hard work and effort that refines the talent. Even as a non-believer, the Vatican has always had a fascination for me and this perfect score deepens my appreciation of the beauty of the art, the antiquity, and the tradition of so many centuries of the Church's dogged perseverance. This music will also persevere. The music rises above the silly fantasy in the film as well as the actual blandness of the church outside it's beautiful and bright trappings. The score is so much more than the film, the value of the film is really the art that it displays with it's admittedly high production values (led by your score), which makes it very watchable. When this film is forgotten, the score will still remain and I hope it one day finds itself in a film that fully matches it. Thank you for this beautiful music, it makes me feel like a better person just by listening to it. Thank you for making life a little better.

Dear all,
I'm seeking publishing rights to "Maestro" composition by Hans Zimmer (there's a synch request for it).
It used to be controlled by Universal Music Publishing in the past. But now the publisher seems to have changed and I cannot find it.
Do you have any idea about it?

Many thanks and regards,

Hello Mr. Zimmer,

I'm a huge admirer of your work and have used some of your orchestration ideas in many of my own compositions! As I'm sitting here listening to some of your tracks, I wonder how you work through your compositional ideas--essentially, how do you take an idea and put it to music?

The reason I ask is because classical composers (Beethoven, for instance) have sketchbooks that we can observe and see their compositional process. But since composers started using technology to write, these "sketches" aren't around. I guess what I'm asking is what would your sketchbook look like?

Thanks!
