The best Sherlock Holms movie for me is Rusian version . And great music score which fits personality .

Hmm I would say MW2 is a better score as it has a theme which is similar to my hears when I hear it but as others said its a new score which shows zimmer is capable of writing different scores for very different movies .
About the comparison Brad made between James Horner and Hans , James is the next best composer after hans and the main reason is that usually in every movie his score seems the same with few alterations though I respect him alot !
I didnt like holmes score that much , just waiting for future hans works ... they would be olala !

Anyone know the chronological order yet or have a cue-by-cue breakdown?
It is supposed to be Victorian London,which Guy Richie has managed very well,and the music is too virtuoso which is only saved by the Dubliners track,The Rocky Road To Dublin.

During the credits, an Irish group (?) was singing. Couldn't find it on the soundtrack. Who were they and what was the song-Thanks!

I thought it was edgy, creative, a bit gypsy, and definately a twang of dear old jack. But, with a twist. Sherlock Holmes might even be kookier than the captain himself, however some slight differences. Holmes has a newer faster pace going for it, mainly because of the fast pace the movie goes in but also it is more in your face than POTC. In POTC there is a lot more lilting in the music, soft, quiet to soft again. Waves, ocean, that sort of thing. Where as Holmes in a more running catch me if you can feel to it. I highly recomend it and i cant wait until it comes out. well done again Mr. Zimmer.

@Brad: Don't worry, it's your right to prefer MW2 ! I only wanted to say that Sherlock isn't necessarily less good because it sounds different. ;) Indeed, Sherlock's theme reminds me of Sparrow's too... in a way, even if I'm sure it fits the character in the film, it worries me about how he is portrayed by Guy Ritchie. When I see the trailers, I don't recognize characters from the books at all. Therefore I'm not that interested in the movie, even if, then again, Zimmer surely did a great job of creating music that fits Ritchie's approach (which is what he's asked to do). I guess I will appreciate this score without the images, Sherlock Holmes being only a name on it, because, well, the movie seems too much different from what I like in the books. Anyway, now I wan't to listen to MW2 to make my opinion, too bad there's no official release (CD or download)...
And yes, Horner is good but a bit bugging with his habit of self-quoting... for example, his Avatar is cool, but it's only a "best of" his previous scores.

@Jaweco: Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm not discarding or trying to disrespect the score to Sherlock Holmes at all! I too think it's a great score, though not the easiest listen. I like the Zimmer tried something different, he stepped away from anything that sounded like The Dark Knight and even something that sounded similar to Pirates Of The Caribbean (though Sherlock's theme is similar to Jack's theme from Dead Man's Chest). It puts Zimmer on an even higher level than James Horner for instance whose scores sound exactly the same every single time. But for me I love true Zimmer scores, long, brooding strings movements and/or epic action music. And on Sherlock there's only two or three true Zimmer cues, the chief of which is Psychological Recovery...6 Months. Thats why I, for me, MW2 was a better listen. I enjoyed it more. But to each his own, thats just my humble opinion.

> Enrico > In Sherlock Holmes soundtrack we can hear a kind of violin solos...was these made by Aleksey Igudesman?!
I'm sure the quirky "talking" violin solo on Track 3 and several other tracks is Aleksey's... it reminds me of his awesome rendition of Mozart's "Turkish Rondo" :D

Does epic mean better ? I haven't heard the music from Modern Warfare 2, I can't judge it, but more bombastic doesn't mean it has to be better than Sherlock. Sure epic is cool, but musically, it doesn't mean it's more daring or anything. On Holmes, I think Hans really did try to offer something new, experimenting new sounds and fresh ideas, as well as staying himself in the same time of course. And I think that's great, even if it isn't as easy-listening as epic might be. The Holmes score shouldn't be discarded just like that ! I admit I was "discombobulated" at first, but it deserves more than one listen to get to appreciate it. ;)

@Adrian I didn't say Tillman is better, I just said that I can't find Tina better than Tillman (no significant difference).
@Brad Well, i think that MW2>Sherlock as well. Sherlock is rather boring for me, and MW2 has some really cool cues (Green Flares, Same Shit - Different Day and so on). But still, I was expecting something more. Honestly, I think that HGW and Barton did better job on MW1 than Zimmer-team in MW2. MW1 is just more enjoyable.

@Ele:
Yeah mostly. But I really think that Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe did a better job in MW2 than in Sherlock. Plus how can you go wrong with the composers from Two Steps From Hell giving you some additional music? You have the motion picture score genius himself, Zimmer, and probably the premiere motion picture advertising artist, TSFH, both working in unison on a video game! It doesn't get more epic than that...just listen to the score!

@ Ele,
Indeed, a ''wow'' is in it's place! Musically, I don't know... She is very good too, I can't hear the difference so much actually... In what way is Martin better ?

@Brad
You know MW2 is synth-only but percussion, violin and guitar?
