MATCHSTICK MEN
Zone 2 - 1 DVD Score section : about 8 minutes
For what feels as a complete U Turn in subject matter in Ridley Scott's career after Black Hawk Down and Gladiator, Matchstick Men is an intimate story of a weird crook played by Nicolas Cage and his 'professional' accomplishments. For once Warner saves us from buying several editions ('collectors, supra collectors, etc.) by including the supplements on a simple and cheap edition.
The "Making of" runs 75 minutes, is divided in three parts, the third part being the most interesting : the movie and its music.
8 full minutes in which Zimmer talks about his composition, the divergence between the director and producer on the script, Zimmer and Scott preferring a full on comedy, while the producers and screenwriters wanting more of a drama with character study. The music reflects this struggle : the production found it too comic, but Zimmer still insisted he signed on to do a comedy.
From the recording sessions to the press projection, we see 8 minutes of stress, post production difficulties, and especially noteworthy, the influence of Zimmer on Ridley Scott's direction.
Don’t miss it !
